  1. Sigh...crappy blasters, a poor effort at recreating a Death Star Gun (the one in the actual Death Star looks much better) and new Royal guards incompatible with the older ones with silly weapons, yet somehow they managed to get the Death Star Gunners perfect. I really wish they'd given us some Death Star Troopers with the new helmet (currently only available in the 2012 Tie Fighter set) and/or some imperial officers (a scanning team would have been great) as well as the Gunners. I'll be picking up to add the Gunners to my Death Star but it's really a missed opportunity IMO.
  2. There was a huge battle at Dol Guldar, a boat chase across Laketown and an elf-flinging catapult in the book?
  3. The Vulture Droid may be too big, but at least they made the Buzz Droid too big too as well to compensate - and don't forget they threw in a cool minfig that must be on the top of every kid's wishlist. Finally, the addition of a cockpit to something that is supposed to be able to pilot itself is a masterstroke. Just shot to the top of my buy list!
  4. I'm not really into Jawas but if they included some Tusken Raiders, Luke's Farm, some Sandtroopers etc I might get interested...
  5. Just leave some of your more awesome sets/MOCs on display - more often than not most visitors will admire them with awe and/or nostalgia rather than look at you strangely. Alternatively breed a couple of kids and then you have a great excuse to have toys lying around.
  6. I built this last night and I have to say that the finished ruin looks pretty good and the build was pretty decent with only a bit of repetition. I'm not sold on the twin stairs or the skull dropper, but other than that it looks suitably ruinous and evil. The parts selection is decent, given that the set includes few large panel pieces so there's lots of basic castle-building goodness there, including a fair numebr of brick bricks and relatively rare some nice red leaves. Figure-wise, the only real disappointment (other than Gandalf #5 for me) is the Necromancer - he really doesn't work at all. Maybe a nice horned crown or black cloak would help (I guess the designers didn't have much to work with given they are replciating a shadow). I think Azog looks fine as is and Radagast is a treat.
  7. Well it's the same for comic book creators yet they now get their names credited for their work (unlike in the past) even though the publisher retains the rights to their work. They probably get more sales this way because people are more likely to buy something developed by a favourite creator than one they didn't know the name of.
  8. I got Dol Guldar Battle and Mirkwood Elf Army today at Target with 20% off. They had LTC but it didn't really appeal to me as I'm more into monsters/army type figures. No sign of the smaller Dol Guldar set there though, although Toys R US had it on shelf at full price.
  9. I remember a lot of old comics from my youth in the 70s/80s where the creators (writer, artist) were never mentioned, so even though I could identify the work of a particular artist by sight, I could sadly never name them. Now that Lego have started to produce video diaries featuring designers then surely its time the sets started to list their names. In that way you might actually get more excited seeing a set from a particular line is being produced by a favourite designer. It also gives due credit to the creators who produce set ideas. What do others think?
  10. Does he have a new torso or is it just the one from Mirkwood spiders redone? It's hard to tell from the crappy image quality.
  11. The Aus prices are pretty awful as always - the two smallest being double the US RRP. Intersting that Dol Guldur Battle is "only" $30 more expensive at AUS$100 though. With a 20% off sale at $80 it is probably less expensive than buying it from OS after postage and currency exchange rates are factored in.
  12. Love the Henchmen backprinting. It would have been more generically useful without the "The Joker" bit - but still good fun.
  13. I think the designer did a decent job for a broken down old ruin...and in the end more bley is never bad if you're into castle MOCing. There are some nice red leaves and other pieces as well such as the statue bits. Azog is not a terrible minifig and Radagast is probably the highlight. It would have nice to see some helmets/hairpieces on the orcs but they can always be added from other sets. The less said about the Necromancer the better though. He looks like a baboon wearing a mask from the Scream films...
  14. The nicest thing you can say about these figs is that some of the parts/torsos are occassionally interesting. I guess if I had to buy some I'd go for Willy Shakespeare, Wildstyle for the rocking dress and maybe the Daniel Boone type guy for the cool Racoon-skin hat and nice outdoorsy torso. No army building or generic historical figures is a bit of a killer for me though.
  15. MEA is basically some nice minifigs and a bunch of useful spare parts, as far as I can see. The build looks awful. I might change my mind once the set is built, but my initial reaction is that it looks like something an 8 year old came up with.
  16. Not completely awful but completely redundant next to the recently released Gatehouse Raid set. With the lacklustre SW sets this year and the "interesting" LTM sets I'll be saving a lot of money in the first part of 2014 I guess.
  17. Not the only thing, 'cause you don't know the difference between someone being serious and someone trolling you a bit ;-) Of course it's my opinion that the new microfighters are lame - I only stated it was a fact because you were so self righteous in your response lecturing on about the difference between fact and opinion and all. Objectively if you look upon them as a minfig and a few useful bits they aren't completely awful I'll admit. Chill out and let me have my opinion even if I state it strongly - isn't that what forums on the interwebs are for?
  18. Sorry but it is a fact that those microfighters are lame. They make the Planets series look like UCS sets.
  19. What a godawful wave - the microfighters are lame even to my 5 year old and the Police Gunship and Tri-fighter are nothing special. Palaptine looks like Grand Moff Tarkin in handcuffs rather than the robed figure the heroes "rescue" in Episode 3. On the bright side I guess this will mean I can save some money for buying Hobbit sets...
  20. Put the figure to be burnt in a witch's getup and it would be perfect!
  21. Maybe it's just me but most of these sets look almost as bad as the awful new logo. Too many are just a bunch of minfigures thrown in with a vaguely Star Wars related vehicle, or simply repeats of recent sets (Anakin's Jedi Interceptor 9494 is still on the shelves but they're already bringing out a new but clearly inferior version?). I'll get the DS set for some Gunners for my Death Star but would have preferred another Death Squad Star Trooper and an Imperial Officer to the Royal Guards (which while slightly more movie-accurate don't look like they'll be compatible with my exisiting ones). It's a sad day when I look at a new SW set and the most exciting thing I notice are new foliage pieces (Battle on Saleucami). I hope there's a couple of decent exclusives because this lineup looks rotten to me.
  22. OK - while these sets certainly look unqiue and imaginative, there's just not a lot going on there that appeals to me. Maybe the small cowboy set for the cool torsos and hats but other than that I can't see anything that is shouting out "buy me" when I look at this (might change once I see some of the 2in1 builds, I guess).
  23. Spotted a Death Star at my local Big W today ($598). City Advent calenders were all gone after they had tons in the middle of the week. Otherwise plenty of everything else.
  24. Those new orc undies don't look very comfy...
  25. Bleh...I guess the Mountain Lodge might be ok but there's not much else there to be excited about IMO.
