Damn - that Movie set sounds dumber than dumb. So basically a stupid model without any new heraldry/knights to compensate?
-
Very nice design on the boxes and the minifigs are great but the sets themselves look destined for my castely-parts box. The big Dol-Guldur set looks kind of interesting play-feature wise but the others don't seem to offer much.

Lego Marvel Superheroes Game Announced
TeufelHund replied to MattZitron's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
That was a fun little demo - I can tell my eldest son would love this. I'm not really into the Marvel universe myself but will probably pick this up in a Steam sale at some point. -

Don't they have 20% off everything till COB today anyway? I saw a bunch of Haunted Hosues in good condition at my local K-mart so might be worth investigating if you're after that set. Also Shop at Home is offering a free limited edition Xmas set (over 100 pieces) if you spend $100 or more at the moment as well as double VIP points. -
Noi doubt if you wait a year or two there will be a plague of Silver-domed R2s released in various sets, so no need to pick up a set you don't particularly want to get one, methinks.

REVIEW: 10937 Batman: Arkham Asylum Breakout
TeufelHund replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I own and love this set, as do my sons, but I've always wondered - why does Penguin have a fish? Is this just some kind of joke around Penguins eating fish or does it actually have some significance? -
I have enjoyed a lot of the TT games but I think the two Batman games are the best because they're not limited to the storylines from movies or TV shows like most of the series and they prove that TT can come up with nice original storylines when needed.

That new Rebels packaging actually looks good - just a shame the packaging for most things Star Wars next year (with the cartoon Darth vader) looks awful. A shame as I thought the Yoda Green packaging this year looks pretty decent.

Big W seems to have dropped the prices on their Lone Ranger sets and some Superhero sets. I saw Colby city was down from $88 to $58 for example and the Stage Coach was going for $43. No sign of the Train set anywhere anymore so I suspect it may have sold out already. -
I'm mainly into Castle, Pirates and Star Wars but have to admit this is one awesome looking set - lots of nice techniques and it looks like a great parts pack with dark red, dark blue and olive green in abundance. The problem is once my wife got a hand on this I would probably never be allowed to break it down.

Some of the EU Amazons ship to Australia (not always but more often than not). Only issue is that only .uk is in English. Also Barnes and Noble ship to Australia. Shipping is $12 for the first item and $6 for each additional one from memory. -

Twinblade Adventures (some kind of Dungeons & Dragons type set?) and Mountain Hut sound interesting (as long as Lego's idea of a Mountain Hut is something full of cavemen or tribespeople...not a ski lodge). -
[Request] Pics of King's Castle 7946 and 70404 side by side
TeufelHund replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks again - the Kingdoms castle is looking better and better with each shot. I kind of like the way the new Gatehouse incorporates the drawbridge ropes inside the structure but I still find the Kingdom's gatehouse more aesthetically pleasing. Other than that the Kingdoms set comes out on top in every other shot IMO. -

Damn you Myer - I had no intention of buying PT sets but in the end I got a Gunship and the small set with Jango as well as the LOTR game. Also stitched up some Xmas presents for kids and their cousins, but in the rush of new purchase fever forgot to use the $20 gift voucher I have :-( Saw lots of gunships and castles but no Tower Bridges or Opera Houses in either of the shops I went to. Did see the Galactic Titan in one shop but in the end decided I only really liked it for the unique cocoon bricks so decided to stick to SW. -
Review: Arctic Batman vs. Mr. Freeze: Aquaman on Ice
TeufelHund replied to Oky's topic in LEGO Licensed
My son got this set from a Lego event recently and I have to say it is more impressive than I thought it would be - the Batski (as he calls it) is much larger and more impressive than I thought it would be and the transparent BURP Ice Prison is quite nice too - plus the minfigs are great. Batman is actually probably the least impressive!- 67 replies

[Request] Pics of King's Castle 7946 and 70404 side by side
TeufelHund replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think the outer walls on the new castle may be a little bit higher than the Kingdoms castle due to the addition of a layer of brick bricks at the base. They're still pathetically short (a minfig could scramble over boosted by another one!) but I guess there's a limit to what one can expect with regards to realism in non D2C sets where piece count is a major factor. I have both the Kingdoms and Fantasy era castles and was not impressed by the design of this castle or the awful heraldry but I now have the chance to pick one up for around 50% of RRP this week so I'm thinking about it if only for the pieces for MOCing... -
LOTR Orcs, Goblins & Trolls vs 2008 Orcs and Trolls
TeufelHund replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I seem to remember that the 2008 orcs only had two torso prints (unless you count the unique King/Witch from the Mountain Fortress set). These two figs were the only 2008 orcs with unique heads. You could make them look a bit less uniform than the LOTOR orcs though due to the different weapons/armour/helmets etc available. Also the LOTOR stuff all features back printing which wasn't so common back in 2008. I have a soft spot for the 2008 trolls although they do look pretty primitive (and even a bit small) next to the LOTOR Troll and Goblin King. If I had to pick I would probably go for the 2008 stuff because I like the colour scheme and it's a little more universally useful than the LOTOR stuff. -

I assume a catalog will appear shortly. EDIT - found this list on Whirlpool: Myer Catologue Toy Sale. 20% of Lego toys. Myer 20% off Lego Saturday only - might be a go if any still have Opera Houses remaining. Also they have the Exclusive Star Wars Starhopper set if you're looking for that. -
Great work - I love the use of cheese slopes to frame doors/windows. The little details you put in are also great - I think the minotaur trying to romance the cow with a nice bunch of flowers wins the cake for me.

Quite nice but seeing the castley bit from Kingdoms Joust redecked in new Castle blue is a bit off-putting! After watching all 3 chapters so far I'm suspecting the Princess is going to be changing her mind about our hero by the end of the series.
-
I too got this yeasterday and I was pleasantly surprised - the finished model looks quite good and even the little dragon catapult wasn't quite as awful as I thought it would be. There are still some non-sensical bits like a gold nugget sticking up out of the tower battlements for no reason and a catapult that can only fire in one direction, but overall it's a decent looking model and there are a fair number of good castley bits. The dragon knight and his mount's barding are particularly nice and the highlight of the set.

Best parts pack? Helm`s Deep or the new King`s Castle?
TeufelHund replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't have the new castle but from what I've read it is fairly typical of recent castles in that it is constructed with a lot of big panel pieces. I do have Helm's deep and the Urak-Hai Army pack and they are almost exclusively brick built (save for a few panels in the feast hall attached to Helm's Deep) and include some nice sand green bricks for variety, so overall I'd say they are better parts packs if minifigs are not an issue. I just got the Gatehouse Raid yesterday and that has no panels so is quite nice for parts too. Forest Ambush is mainly an Army Builder set but it does come with a few nice foresty bits as well as a bit of treasure. -
Well both the MMV and Kingdoms Joust are quite complicated builds despite the lines they came from being generally for the core younger audiences, so I don't think that will be an issue (even if the current Castle line seems even more simplified than those lines).

I popped in today and picked up the Gatehouse Raid, Duel on Geonesis and a couple of series 11 for <$90 - not too shabby. Amazingly the first two packets of S11 I picked up were the two I wanted (Tika Warrior and Barbarian) - makes a nice change from half an hour groping sessions. The Warrior's mask is rubber though which I wasn't expecting but the figure overall looks incredible. They seem to be charging $10 above RRP for the new King's Castle but 25% off at $150 is almost the same as 20% off at $140 I guess. The Republic Gunship is $20 less than RRP though so with 25% off is actually equivalent to US retail in Aussie dollars. I also saw the new Jedi-Defender Cruiser KOTOR exclusive set on shelf if anyone is interested (didn't check the price). Now we just have to see who gets the Ewok Village/Orthanc!
