Thanks again! Dear Lego Company, how about giving me a share of the revenues you made from my building making people buy the Simpsons house? ;)
-
No, I'm making the bases of my houses such that they fit where I want to put them in my city. In this case, there's an extra board on the table (to make it wider), so the base is only one brick high and the road rather thin, unlike most of the others. And while I used to have Technic bricks for possible connections in the bases, I'm now just putting most of them without connection, or connecting street modules with tiles on the curb. Technic connectors are difficult to use if you have more than just one or two rows of streets+buildings, but rather build on a larger area...

Thanks again! I usually plan the main look and feel in my mind, maybe make a few pencil sketches, rarely try a few things in LDD, maybe test some facade ideas in bricks, and then "just build away". And rebuild things I don't like in the first attempt, and so on. :) I already got a Chima Trikes store. :) It's not next door, though. (A Friends megadolls store will be near the Chima Trikes store, by the way...) No, you need many extras, especially the dark tan pieces on the ground floor.
-
Thanks, everyone! Yes, there were many extra bricks needed especially for the ground floor - otherwise you only got the garage parts from the set. And of course all the decorative elements like headlight bricks and dark tan tiles on the corners, etc. And of course I chose the name Matt because of Mr Groening. Unfortunately I didn't find a better minifig haircut for him...

Hi everyone, in it's original state, the Simpsons house (71006) doesn't fit well with the modular buildings, but I still wanted to put it in my town, so I modified it accordingly, keeping the main features like the main windows, the studded brown roof, and the interior. And making it not too fancy... Also I added a shop for funny masks, i.e. the odd-shaped Simpsons figure heads: On the street in front of the shop: One guy trying on a Homer mask, and the mask manufacturer's salesman, just leaving the shop, always wears a Ned mask, scaring the guy in the front. Looking through the window, we see Matt, the owner of the shop, in the middle behind the counter: The workman in the front is removing damaged parts from the wall in order to repair it later - or in other words: I couldn't find a second dark tan 2x1x3 slope brick. :) Inside: Lots of masks (and sone full costumes) on offer: The interior of the upper floors is almost exactly like in the original set: I just added the missing fridge and shortened the couch so it doesn't block the entrance under the stairs. (And forgot the kitchen chairs in the photo.) Back side: ยป Flickr album Hope you like it...

Modifying Lego: Acceptable or Heresy
cimddwc replied to eurotrash's topic in General LEGO Discussion
With the exception of cut flex tubes, I don't use modified parts in my MOCs. It's part of the challenge to accomplish what you want with the existing parts, I think. :) However, I'm not so strict when train tracks are concerned. Cutting a switch to make a proper curve, for instance. And of course I've extended the wires of the PF motors I use for remote-controlled switches with regular wire - buying dozens of official PF extension cables wouldn't really make sense... -
Nice building and nice interior indeed!

Thanks again, everyone! Zblj, that's some Hero Factory armor. Don't know which exactly, I don't know much about Hero Factory...
-
Thanks, everyone! I would have preferred to use the new wedge slope which probably would work even better than the double convex slope here, but that doesn't exist in this color yet... Yes. Bright Light Yellow on BrickLink, Cool Yellow is Lego's official name for it.
-
Yeah, the colors work really nicely. Even though some have the same color as the walls. And the roof also is a nice idea, but it would look better with plates (the ones used for the offsets) in the same color.
-
Hi everyone, my latest building features the nice Cool Yellow color and Chima Speedorz turned into trikes for a City. Well, I don't think they'd be allowed in a real city, but who cares in a Lego city. :) More photos, as usual, on Flickr. Closeup on the yard and the sign, two potential customers sitting in the trikes, with costumed and masked clerks around: More trikes and costumes inside: Third and fourth floor contain an apartment. Here, Mom's moving the teddy so she can sit on the sofa and read the papers... ...watched by the true master of the house (as is typical for cats) :) Upstairs, parents' bedroom on the left, and in her room the daughter's brushing her megadoll's hair: ...while Mom (#2) is getting ready for her shift at the fire station. Bathroom on the right. The trikes by themselves: And this is where the house sits in my city. (I really should finish the stickers for the train station (the dark-red+white building) some time soon...) ยป Flickr album Hope you like it. :)

I'm planning something like that - on 32x32 with the interior layout of the original house mostly unchanged on 2nd and 3rd floor, and on the ground floor the garage next to a shop. A shop selling the Simpsons heads as masks. :)

Shops for Lego in Munich or Dresden
cimddwc replied to glorygunners's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I'd say visit Obletter and one of the Arcaden that's easier/faster to reach - by train from the city center, that's Pasing; otherwise, check what fits your other plans best, Riem to airport might be a bit closer, for instance. -

In Munich, well, not really any "hidden gem" that I'd know of, but you might want to check out the Mรผller stores (drugstores with lots of other stuff), they usually have a few reduced sets (no exclusives, though), present in both Arcaden, and their larger toy store Obletter at Karlsplatz (Stachus), who often got some remaining stock at good prices. The big department stores Karstadt and Kaufhof may have a few nice offers, but that's rather rare. But when you're near them anyway, it can't be wrong to take a quick look... -
The Space City Turtle - kinda combining Doctor Who's space whale, Discworld's Great A'Tuin, and generic sci-fi space habitats... (and yes, I built it before I saw greg3's Great World Turtle :) ) More photos on Flickr.

I got a small pole dance bar in the basement of one of the houses of my Pet Shop Street. Legs actually are no problem - there have been many official combinations of yellow legs with hips in a different color over the years, some even with swimsuit prints. And you could always take a classic yellow astronaut's legs...

Keep in mind that some trains have quite a long overhang in the front/back when going around curves and switches. That is, you won't be able to put much of a platform in between the tracks at the station, only on the two outer tracks. The innermost track should be a bit longer anyway - it looks like you could move the switch on the left one track piece further to the left.

MOC - modular, modular, MODULAR my first complete one
cimddwc replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Town
Really a great building! I like the architecture (and I think masonry bricks wouldn't work that well here), and you interiors are excellent as always, of course. -
I'd prefer bricks lying sideways instead of tiles. Looks much smoother than tiles with their slightly rounded edges.
-
The tan floor also applies to the hall of the Town Hall. And those with green baseplates get some nice grass in the backyard this way.

Thanks, everyone! Finish? Given all the time spent with sorting and, well, non-Lego stuff in life, that will take many years. (And if I'd finish it soon, what would I do next...?) But it's not meant to be displayed in total anywhere in public, only parts of it from time to time - the Pet Shop Street was on display at the Bricking Bavaria events last year in Munich and this year in Dachau (near Munich) . Just like on the left of the gap, as you can see in the last picture: non-Lego things called wood, reinforced with steel. The baseplates on the right are just overhanging a little.

Hello everyone, between all this sorting and slow continuation on the area around my train station, I got something I can present here - 25 colorful steps: Inspired by real colorful stairs such as in Istanbul during the protests there last year. And in case someone is wondering why there are Star Wars people walking around: There must be a big SW fan convention somewhere in town... So many colors, and there were still some left... wouldn't have been possible to build this in the 1980s. :) I forgot a sign on that bar at the bottom right - "use lakeside path at your own risk" or similar. ยป Flickr set

When I fully "de-dark-aged", GG and CC were available; I liked GG better, so I bought that, planning to get CC for Christmas - only to find in or around September that it was discontinued, so I quickly got it on eBay for just a little over its original price. And then got MS for a similar price for Christmas... So, yes, I got them all. Some of them modified, though. Well, most of them, actually. :)

When I just accessed the New Content page on my iPad, some ad made the browser close and open the App Store for the "trivago - Die Hotelsuche" app (German). That's certainly an inappropriate behavior for any kind of ad...

Maybe they don't do it more often because such packaging is more prone to getting damaged, especially if it's more elaborate than just a big plate on top? If a cardboard box gets dented at a corner, that's not much of a problem, unlike if a plastic piece that's part of the construction gets broken. I don't have any statistical data for how often that happens, though. :) Actually, that plate was used in two (rather ugly) City sets and one Indiana Jones set before.
