WIP LDD Model Railway Module _ Level Crossing & SIgnal Box
cimddwc replied to jamesed_1971's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Nice. But isn't the left gate a bit too close to the track? It just allows for trains that are 8 studs wide including overhang, and even those may bump into the gate when they're not perfectly in the middle of the track.- 13 replies

Now we know for sure this is not an actual ICE: it's got a section for bicycles (as the sticker on one window shows) - and bicycles aren't allowed on a real ICE. :) Well, I kinda like these trains, though i don't think they're really extraordinary. The architecture of the station is a nice change, even though the roof across the tracks is a bit pointless.
-
Well, that depends on what train/city balance you'd want... If (in your second image) you use modified switches (as offered by Bluebrick) on the sides for the half loop, i.e. cut them such that they allow for a clean quarter-circle away from the main track, you get a nicer look and can also fit a single siding in the gap (though not with a lot of space around it), so you might remove the one inside and have more city space, like this:

I don't think so. This looks more like the Maersk solution: a big tile with studs on edges, with yellow tiles and black grille slopes on said studs, snotted on the sides to hide the standard battery box.

Though of course this nose is not a copy of an actual ICE design, just close enough to be recognized as a "generic ICE" without copyright infringement. A real ICE would also have the red stripe higher up and be all white below it. The near-rectangular shape of the window and the long lights remind me more of an ICx, actually; ICE 3 (old and new) have a round window. None of them has a pointed nose like this. Which, by the way, is kind of - no, I shouldn't say that nose is growing on me, that would make my face look very strange but yeah, I begin to like it more. But I'll better wait for the final model and more pictures...

I have a slope where trains go downhill right into a curve (and on into the station), and that curve is banked by one plate on the outside so the trains don't have to drive at slowest speed (well, it might go faster after all, but it's better to be careful...).

Really great, both inside and outside!

Well, let's see... I already got the Parisian Restaurant and ordered the Mars rover; so I still "need": - Simpsons house - City trains - Movie spaceship - some more Movie sets - Chima legend beasts (multiple for parts) - Minifigures and Friends animals - likely some other D2C set they'll surprise us with :) - Lugbulk - bunch of Bricklink orders... Probably won't buy due to lack of space and parts reusability (and, well, money), but might change my mind: - Maersk ship - Sea Cow - Sydney Opera So it looks like another expensive year... Edit: maybe Creator bike shop and cafe - depending on how it looks

Thanks for the picture! Nice to see it's a full house opening with hinges, and lots of parts - though of course I would have preferred if it wasn't tan but a more orange/fleshy tan. :) Would have been closer to the real house as well as a nice new color for MOCing, but admittedly not that likely to get a new color. Now I hope it won't be too expensive...

Bought one on Thursday, planning to build it over the long weekend, maybe one floor a day (Monday is public holiday here). "Of course" it's already completed by now instead. :) Really a nice building, though I think I'll have to add a second second floor some day. One thing I noticed, by the way: the black fence piece is a new version with four studs on top instead of just two with a smooth area in between - even the instructions still show the two-stud version. I guess this makes this piece's use a bit more flexible...

Well, obviously not Germany, since our Amazon doesn't give us great Lego lightning deals... A 10€ Chima set previously sold for 9€ briefly at 8€; two(?) smaller Star Wars sets (admittedly at over 30%, IIRC) that they apparently had more than enough stock of since they didn't even get close to selling out; and some Duplo that I didn't have a closer look at.
-
Roebuck, I think you're comparing apples and oranges here, or in other words: you forgot quite a few sets, and the Maersk sets should rather be seen in a line of their own: the other Maersk ship in 2004 and 2010, Maersk train in 2011 - and Orthanc this year, Haunted House 2012...

Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
cimddwc replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sometimes rare parts also show up for regular sale in the Legoland "factory" store - both new ones like the 1x2 grille brick in tan in 2012 that later appeared in the Palace Cinema set in 2013, as well as old ones like 2x8x3 arches in old dark gray which must be leftovers from the Legoland builders themselves. -
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :) Maybe it's January in 2014 because there's another building set (The Lego Movie? Simpsons? other licensed?) they'd rather release in March?

Hello everyone, I've had these two bridges for quite some time – originally I wanted to wait until more of the surroundings is completed and more cleaned up, bur since the former will still take some time and the latter potentially forever, well, there you are, two moveable bridges: The small one on the left is also supposed to look like a real moveable bridge – hence the non-functional gears: If you'd put enough heavy stuff in the big counterweight box, it might even be possible to open it with a Lego motor. But that wouldn't be fast enough for me when I want to open it, go through, and close it again. :) Opened: Opposite: Fixed part protruding beyond the table due to the curve (had to use a wooden board there). You also see the "socket" for the bridge into which it slides and sits firmly in place. (The yellow and black markings are mostly for me so I don't accidentally hit it...) Bridge no. 2: This one is supposed to look like a fixed bridge, but I need to be able to move it for myself, too, of course. It's handle is the mast on the left, by the way. Note that it was originally a few brick rows lower, but I needed the additional black understructure to keep it from bending down too much. And if that understructure would hang below the (imaginary) water level, it would look too odd... A worker is painting some parts with anti-corrosive paint: (Which is also the excuse for not having enough black L-shaped liftarms...) Quite dangerous to climb around there and doing silly stungs: Luckily, the train passed without hitting the ape suit guy. Opened: Solid connection for this bridge, too: The tracks just sit next to each other – thanks to its connectors, the gap is minimal, and the trains have no problem crossing them. When open, the bridge rests against the reinforced mast here, which is connected with some Technic stuff and enough studs... Note that on this side, the three-stud track gap is closed by halves of flex-track. » A few more photos on Flickr. Comments, praise, and suggestions welcome as always. :)

Sounds interesting. My guess would be the Simpsons house's color... but whatever it is, I'm pretty sure it won't be ugly. :)

Interesting... I imagine "Springfield Shops" about the same size as Lone Ranger's Colby City; and I'm wondering what color they'll use for the Simpsons house – it should be flesh or light flesh, shouldn't it? Would be nice to get bricks in one of these colors. :)

I agree with the others. :)
