Super Mario 2025 and onwards - Rumors & Discussion
Lyichir replied to TheBrickPal's topic in LEGO Licensed
It looks like all of the karts can fit the digi-figs, actually. I don't think there ought to be any stability issues, either—these look plenty robust enough for play. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Probably gonna have to wait longer for that, the main reason we're seeing Animal Crossing/Mario this early is because of a major game conference/expo in Germany. Lego has no need to time a modular reveal that far ahead. -
I think these sets look adorable—though with another sibling pair split up, the need for a minifigure series or something to fill in gaps is more evident than ever. Only three sets is also a slight disappointment, though, especially since no actual houses are included in the lineup this time. I'd been sort of hoping for something like the "Maker sets" in the Mario theme (perhaps a "Happy Home Designer" set?) that could be used to build and customize multiple houses, with a selection of furniture, windows, doors, and optional house styles. As it is the ability to build houses for the growing number of figs without them is seriously limited by the lack of window and door variety, despite new window and door styles being introduced specifically for this theme. I expect the 2HY wave will feature larger sets like potentially the museum, since that tends to be the case across themes.

Super Mario 2025 and onwards - Rumors & Discussion
Lyichir replied to TheBrickPal's topic in LEGO Licensed
While I would've liked to see more in the way of courses, I sort of disagree with your comments about scale—I would argue that bigger figures allows more detail in the design of the karts themselves. These kart builds look fantastic and I imagine minifig-scale versions would leave a lot more to be desired in terms of both accuracy and build quality, especially for smaller karts like the Biddybuggy. Anyway, I love the look of these sets! The variety of karts featured is fantastic and the characters are great too (including characters like Baby Mario, Peach, and Luigi). -
For me honestly I've been super satisfied with the City and Friends offerings (with the former offering a new take on space that I personally feel stands toe-to-toe with full-fledged space themes, and the latter being downright adorable with some great designs). Haven't gotten any of the Technic space sets since I haven't been much into Technic since the end of Technic-based constraction themes like Bionicle (since Bionicle MOCing drove a lot of my interest in cool functional or aesthetic Technic parts), but it was refreshing to see some more speculative Technic sets after so many years of sets based on modern-day, real-world subjects. Oh, and of course the minifigure series was amazing, with a great combination of new takes on classic factions along with some of the more out of the ordinary choices I love from the CMFs! That's not to say I would've said no to another retro space throwback set like the Galaxy Explorer or some more sets in the aforementioned themes (indeed, I'm seriously hoping that these aren't the last we see of Space in Friends and City for too long, and that the next space sets in those themes build on the incredibly strong foundation this year's sets established). But after several years where throwbacks were some of the ONLY kinds of space sets we'd been getting, it's been refreshing to see takes on Space that go beyond AFOL nostalgia and actually feel like they chart a path forward for space sets!

Sonic the Hedgehog - Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Licensed
To be honest, the point of a problem user being suspended is so that others DON'T have to deal with their behavior anymore, which doesn't really work if people continue to imitate it for laughs. Especially when you're doing so in a bunch of threads they weren't even active in, where people aren't going to get the joke and it'll just seem like you're being loud and annoying unironically... -
I love the buildable dolls! As a longtime fan of buildable action figure themes I've long brainstormed how Lego could adapt that concept to the doll market. These are quite cute!

I believe it was meant to be able to shoot ACTUAL water, like a water gun or similar squirting toy. Water features ultimately were not exactly a common feature for Lego sets, apart from floating boats and the occasional bath toys in themes like Duplo and Primo, so it's interesting to think of whether that would have been the case if the dragon mold had had such a feature and it had caught on.
-
Personally I quite like the vested dog as an option—not only is it good for things like service dogs, but it's used to excellent effect in this year's City Advent Calendar to give the dog its own Christmas sweater like all the other members of the family. Yes, it would be nice to get other dogs in more colors, but I don't think it should have to be an either/or thing. There's nothing stopping Lego from continuing to produce other colors of the retriever mold in the future.

LEGO Dreamzzz 2024 Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Whoa, neat! I've been impressed with both the physical and digital instructions for Dreamzzz—the color-coded pages and full-page illustrations really give them a premium feel. Yesterday I built the first Dreamzzz set I've gotten from this wave (the Midnight Raven). Built the 2nd alt build first and noticed a minor error in the instructions—when building the cottage, it omits the step where you put the two 2x2 corner plates on the base of the cottage even though those plates do get shown attached later in the build. It's a bit of a surprising error to find, since the cottage build is the same between both models so having an error in one but not the other feels like it could've been easily avoided. But ultimately it's a very minor issue. I'll probably rebuild the set into the other alt-build too, since that one has all the features of the set nicely integrated into one build. -
General Part Discussion
Lyichir replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think one of the biggest advantages isn't in Technic builds but in smaller System builds where locking 1x1 and 1x2 Technic bricks together would add unwanted bulk. I could see this being particularly useful in microscale builds or for small brick-built characters. Of course, it also has potential for lots of other uses—since a lot of Technic parts are odd-numbered lengths an odd-numbered length brick like that could just be more convenient for a lot of cases where you want to integrate System and Technic.- 5,507 replies

I'm on Firefox on my Macbook and not having issues. Sometimes I do have issues during high-traffic periods (like just after midnight when new major new sets become available), but not in other normal circumstances.

LEGO Dreamzzz 2024 Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Since the Dreamzzz sets are out now and their instructions are available online, I've been browsing some of them and noticed a fun easter egg in the Castle Nocturnia set—on the page where you build the wizard Dreamling, one of the spellbooks that's pictured in the illustration is based on the "magic scroll" printed tile from the old Castle sets with Majisto. Obviously not as exciting as an easter egg like that would be if it were actually in the set itself, but I still thought it was cute. -
I might consider the Space subtheme (which did occur in 2019 and 2022) to be in the same vein as other exploration/research themes, with scientific work taking place outside the "city limits".

LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion
Lyichir replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yeah, the plinth was featured in the initial pics. However, most of those were from a relatively low front-view angle, and it does look a lot bigger when viewed from a higher angle. -
LEGO Videogame Tie-Ins - Rumors & Discussion
Lyichir replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
The slew of set reveals coming out of SDCC must've influenced my dreams, because last night I dreamed that Lego revealed one of next year's Mario Kart sets as well as a previously unannounced Splatoon theme. Maybe some day... -
I feel like the heavily customized, run-down nature of vehicles from Mad Max might be a step too far removed from the Speed Champions theme's focus on real-world automobile brands.

I don't really expect differently colored plane/airport sets to be sold, but if a minifigure series comes about as people have been hoping for, that'd be an easy way to release the other brother.

LEGO Fortnite 2024 and on - Rumors & Discussion
Lyichir replied to BrickBob Studpants's topic in LEGO Licensed
With Lego Fortnite now an official theme, could/should discussion of that be moved to its own topic? It's been kind of the bulk of discussion in this topic for a while but at this point it's no longer a rumor. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Lyichir replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
To be honest I wouldn't necessarily expect Life on Mars inspired figs in a minifigure series any time soon. The astronauts were not the most memorable/notable faction (except for the blue chrome which is unlikely to reappear), and the aliens weren't traditional figs at all. I wasn't that much of a fan of the UFO and Insectoids figures either, to be honest. I'd sooner be interested in a Spyrius throwback—especially one based on the classic droid, which with its metallic printing and detailed leg prints felt very much ahead of its time! -
Able Sisters and the Museum are definitely top of the wish list. Beyond that I expect we'll probably see at least one set containing a house—I was honestly a little surprised when neither of the summer sets used either the new window or door builds from the two house builds released in the first wave, since I'm sure they plan to make more use of them. There's gotta be at least one smaller set among the releases too, since the latest wave was two bigger sets—maybe something like Leif's flower cart would make a good small-ish set? Also, I hope we see some fall and winter-themed sets before long, since they haven't been represented in sets yet. Fall might be unlikely for the 1HY wave since it'd only really be timely for the southern hemisphere, but winter might still be close enough to maybe feature, with details like snowy trees or snowpeople. And of course, something like a Minifigure series would be highly desirable as always! But if we get something like that it might not be revealed alongside the rest of a wave since those often operate on their own separate schedule. A Minifigure series would be a great opportunity to get not just characters, but also potentially some new accessories. Easy additions would be things like printed K.K. albums, but I wouldn't mind some things like tools as well—a lot of the tools in the sets so far have used generic existing parts in existing colors like the shovel, net, and watering can, but I'd really appreciate some of those could get new molds or recolors that better resemble the in-game versions.

Yeah, a black rat with red eyes isn't particularly realistic (red eyes are more common in white rats due to albinism), but it'd still be plenty suitable for any use where you're using it mostly to establish a creepy atmosphere (which is how a lot of rats, bats, and spiders are used in your typical Lego build anyway).

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think representing a particular real, historical church and creating one of their own would be two very different things. The Notre Dame IS the Notre Dame, with all its particular history set in stone, so to speak—but creating a wholly new church in the modular series would involve choosing a particular style, denomination, etc. in a way that could be seen as preferencing one religious point of view over others. So I don't think that's particularly likely. Add in the fact that Lego's depiction of Notre Dame is remarkably nonreligious—it recreates the architecture but there are no crosses or recognizable religious iconography (even the stained glass is depicted as colorless and focused more on the overall geometric form rather than the actual imagery of the real deal). I doubt a modular church, not based on a specific internationally known example, could pull that off and be recognizable as much of a church at all. -
[Review] 6973 Deep Freeze Defender from Ice Planet 2002
Lyichir replied to delta7890's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Awesome review! I used to long for sets like this one looking at old catalogs and posters, but didn't realize at the time just how many hidden and integrated features each of them had. The way the garage door piece automatically angles the scout ship is extremely cool!- 10 replies

I'm sorry, but the review shows it to be very akin to previous City sets. It shares characters with last year's ocean exploration team and the vehicle has a lot in common design-wise with other City vehicles—both ones for previous exploration subthemes and ones there have been for more typical City subjects like police, fire, or construction. I feel like you're stubbornly fighting a lost cause, since exploration subthemes like this have been a part of the City theme for more than a decade now and the inclusion of references to separate themes like Adventurers doesn't fundamentally change that.
