LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 27. Rumors and discussion
Lyichir replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Sometimes novelty can have its own appeal. Steampunk has been a popular MOCing genre among AFOLs for ages but it's rare for an official minifig to specifically cater to those sensibilities—often steampunk builders have had to make do by combining historical and sci-fi parts. So a steampunk CMF sort of hits the sweet spot of a highly popular "theme" that nonetheless has little competition/comparison among existing minifigures. -
If you're interested in traditional railway-style sets, I would hesitate to get excited about the rumored arctic train... most arctic-themed sets so far have been focused on exploration and research, and if that continues to apply to the upcoming arctic sets I'd sooner expect a rumored "train" set to be an "overland train" or "trackless train" composed of several linked research vehicles. There's a chance that a train set might be a snow-clearing rail-based train of some sort, but in the absence of any sort of more specific information I'd consider that far from a certainty.

Walrus would be a really fun animal in Lego! And the kind of animal that's great to get in sets since it's too large to reasonably accompany a minifig in a CMF.

Sonic the Hedgehog - Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Licensed
That doesn't entirely surprise me... the Shadow one seemed to mostly be made to tie in with Sega's "Year of Shadow" (headlined by the new Sonic Movie and the Sonic & Shadow Generations game). -
Just made a post on Brickset's news article about these sets, so to save time I'll copy my thoughts here:

Super Mario 2025 and onwards - Rumors & Discussion
Lyichir replied to TheBrickPal's topic in LEGO Licensed
Two new starter sets is certainly interesting, especially since it's too soon for another refresh of the existing ones. Wario and Waluigi would make the most sense as a "pair" but Daisy or Rosalina would not be unwelcome (with new characters especially appealing now that the Mario Kart sets are out and more "drivers" to choose from would be an asset). Speaking of Mario Kart, I wonder if any of these will be related to that "subtheme". I figure it's not the most likely (since there's a good chance we'd be due for other general playsets instead), but I wouldn't be opposed to more karts or track features. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Nice! $80 is not too bad overall for a set that size (price per piece could be better but of course City theme tends to be pricy). I look forward to getting this, and maybe even to eventually buying extra jumpsuit torsos from it on Bricks & Pieces. EDIT: On another note, continuing to speculate about what the extra space behind the cockpit is used for it occurred to me that the two meteorites included in the set would fill the 8x4 space there pretty well. Not guaranteed that's what it's used for, but it's a possibility. -

42198 Bush Plane
Lyichir replied to msk6003's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The subject matter (prop plane), simple but effective functions, and zebra stripe decals all combined give me a lot of 90s Lego nostalgia. Feels like if Islanders, Outback, and 90s Technic had a baby. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Nah, the area behind the cockpit can definitely open. A close look at the edge that the large 8x6 roof piece attaches to reveals a combination of 1x4 plates with two studs and ingot pieces instead of regular bricks and plates—these parts combined are an easy way to make a removable section (since the reduced studs create a looser connection and the ingots even provide a handy "lip" to separate it from). It's sort of similar to the roof connection in the small rover set from this year. It's not uncommon for there to be features of sets that don't get included in alt pictures, especially when a lot of the back of the box (where these sorts of pics normally go) is taken up highlighting a feature like this set's modularity. -

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Yeah, I'm curious about that as well. Maybe it has space to store the small mining robot and EVA pack or something? I'm not expecting anything too exciting but the fact that there is space there means it's gotta be used for something. The pod seems to mainly have storage for the astronauts' helmets from the looks of it. Incidentally, this seems to be the first one of these space sets to include alternate hairpieces for the astronauts, which is appreciated. -
Pretty sure they're stickered. You can see the sticker edges in some of the photos.

HUGE pictures of the new City spaceship on this site: https://www.2ttoys.nl/de-gb/products/lego-60446-modulair-galactic-spaceship-verken-de-kosmos-met-lego-city -
Finished building Brick Cross Train Station for my dad yesterday! Really fun set. I like how it blends the London train station look with things like the teal accents on some recent City train stations.

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes

If we're fancasting designers for a Castle theme I'd also propose Wes Talbott, who designed the Medieval Blacksmith, Great Deku Tree, and Dungeons & Dragons sets among many others (including some of my favorite Elves sets). He's another one of my favorite medieval/fantasy designers. -

The green dragon Creator set looks excellent. For Eurobricks regulars, this set is designed by Aaron Newman, who before he worked at Lego was a prolific MOCer here under the username @Nuju Metru and was responsible for the impressive Dragon Lands fan theme. I've been impressed with his work on Creator animals, and it's great to see him finally get to put out an excellent brick-built dragon as an official set! -

I think for a lot of Lego customers white-backed stickers might be preferred since they don't show smudges/fingerprints, which can be more offputting than a slight color variance. While clear-backed decals can have a more professional look when applied well, that relies on a certain level of expertise on the part of builders that probably doesn't apply to the majority of buyers. -

Do we even know if it would have preorders? I think those are still a fairly rare thing for Lego, mostly limited to things like high-demand licensed sets. Also, the Lego preorders we've seen tend to start multiple months in advance, since the main advantage of preorders on Lego's end is for the company to gauge early demand and adjust production accordingly—something they couldn't really do effectively for a release less than a month away. Lego set production is a much less streamlined and rapid process than, say, video game preorders (where producing additional game discs or cards according to demand is not that much of a logistical challenge), so Lego's foray into preorders has been comparatively more restrained. -
I feel like this is probably primarily an SEO (search engine optimization) thing... adult fans of high performance cars may recognize various cars by brand/model, but a lot of parents buying for kids are probably just looking for a "race car" or something similarly vague, and so having that in the product name makes it more likely that people searching for that will find their way to those sets.

Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Lyichir replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Got it, I'll avoid this topic in the future then. Just popped in because I was interested in if anyone else had anything interesting to say about the Spider-Verse set or things, didn't expect the vibes in here to be so rancid. I'll stick to enjoying my fun unlicensed themes while you lot commiserate about how miserable your favorite themes make you. -

Maybe you should be collecting cool, well designed themes like Dreamzzz instead of whining about your precious superheroes not being good enough. You're complaining about licensed themes costing too much and cutting corners without ever considering that the fact that they're licensed might be part of the problem. Like, yeah, themes where a hefty licensing fee has to be paid on top of everything else have less budget for extra prints! Yeah, those themes are going to cost more! Maybe the shitty thing is taking your frustration out on themes that don't have those issues. -
Pretty much this. Which is not to say that the backlash to the plastic axles didn't contribute to the metal axles' return—even a more niche theme can be receptive to feedback from customers.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Lyichir replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yeah, this was what I was trying to get at. Certain cartoons just inherently work better with the minifigure body plan than others. An imprecise rule of thumb I sometimes use for how well/how easily I feel figs would be adapted to minifigures is "how decent would these characters look as human-portrayed mascots (like you see at theme parks or the like)? For characters like most Disney Princesses, it doesn't feel too off at all for regular humans to portray the characters—so regular figs work just fine, even without molded heads. For characters like Looney Tunes or Muppets characters, you could reasonably recognize them if they were a human in a suit with a foam head, so molded heads are mostly all you need. But for characters who really stretch the limits of human proportions to much more bizarre extremes, using regular minifigures for them is much more of a tough sell. Incidentally, sometimes certain characters work with a minifigure even if not all characters from a franchise do. With Karalora's Steven Universe example, I could see Garnet, Steven, and Amethyst working decently as minifigures, but Pearl's long, thin limbs and prominent pointed nose are harder to adapt. A broad-focus CMF series might be the best way to adapt some of these sorts of series, to be honest—since you could include one or two prominent characters who do work well as minifigures without having to stress over adapting every major character.
