  1. I think the name on the box is only a sticking point for a small contingent of AFOLs with a somewhat purist view of what makes a theme "Lego Space". For everyone else, the Lego City brand is probably more of a benefit than anything else, since it comes with a built-in audience and reputation. And yeah, I think the City/Friends/etc. sets are Lego's vision of "bringing back space", which is probably part of why Lego produced and published this video this year.
  2. Looks like it in the lifestyle photos. The slight opacity kind of reminds me of the "trans-neon yellow" that was mostly only used for Clikits and a few Bionicle eyestalks.
  3. All this talk about bulky electronic hubs... anyone remember this set from the '90s? https://brickset.com/sets/5600-1/Radio-Control-Racer I think all the examples shared from throughout the years are proof enough that there is room for both more versatile individual electronic components and for a more specialized hub like this in the Powered Up/Control+ system. A set like this is hardly the end of the world.
  4. First of all, it's very funny to call a sampling of a handful of kids (edited out of a wider suite of footage for their positive, clippable reactions) "market research". Secondly, kids liking toys is nothing new. If you take a kid, put them in front of a toy that they didn't have to pay for or choose over other options, there's a pretty high chance they're going to like it! The question, for Lego's marketers, is if they'd like the old stuff as much or more than new stuff. That's a much tougher bar to clear, and I would wager that Lego's actual market testing (which involves not just handing kids toys but also presenting them with choices and gauging their reactions) are part of why this year's space sets look like they do instead of being pure nostalgia throwbacks. Don't get me wrong—it's a fun video and I absolutely believe in parents sharing their childhood interests with their kids! When I was a kid I absolutely would play with my mom's old hand-me-down, 70s-era Lego when I visited my grandparents. But if I was in a toy store and had to pick between a set like this or an exciting new theme like Aquazone or Adventurers... I think I'd have opted for the latter without a doubt. I see no reason to assume it'd be much different for these kids, given the choice between these sorts of sets and the more advanced space sets of today!
  5. I'll take a split sticker over a STAMP any day of the week.
  6. While I also hope the City Space theme continues, I doubt this is any sort of preview of next year's figs/sets. More likely these are exclusive prints merely designed to complement the other City Space fig parts—not unlike previous themed Build-a-Mini parts.
  7. To be quite honest, it's not abnormal for sets from less than a year ago to still be on shelves, nor for sets that are more than half a year old to be discounted to make room for newer stock. The link you shared shows a 20% discount for me, which is not that out of the ordinary for a set that size.
  8. Why do you assume the golden versions of Mr. Oz and Albert aren't canon? It's entirely possible that that's their new look for this year.
  9. They didn't bring retired parts back for Legends, either, which was the part of the issue—the demand for rereleases of the old sets, which would inherently always be less authentic than the original sets, and would have to compete with both more advanced modern sets and with the authentic originals on the aftermarket... that's a heck of a lot of limitations to overcome. Probably even more limitations today, when the sets that were old in the early 2000s are now even older, with even more retired parts and fewer adult fans who actually remember them from when they were kids. Lego has definitely still managed to capitalize on nostalgia in more strategic ways, with updated redesigns like the Galaxy Explorer and Eldorado Fortress or spiritual successors like the Lion Knights' Castle, which can activate those same sorts of nostalgic memories while also being more modern, polished designs with broader appeal. I'm not convinced at all that straight rereleases would be able have that kind of appeal, any more than they did the last time Lego gave it a shot.
  10. Personally I'm not sure a dedicated prosthetic arm piece is totally necessary–there was a clunky sci-fi prosthetic in the old Agents theme, and hooks exist for historic prosthetics in themes like pirates. For realistic modern prosthetics, realistically the simplified form factor of a normal minifigure arm could probably still suffice in many cases (maybe in a different color or with printing to make it look more artificial). Then again, Friends recently introduced Autumn (a character with a limb difference) and a prosthetic hand piece for her, so I guess something similar could potentially be done for minifigures as well.
  11. Very good thoughts. Maybe I will end up making a BAM purchase when these roll around. Interpreting the torso as a more "casual" jumpsuit does make it more appealing to me, and that armor really does look fantastic (even though I still feel like choosing between it and the existing backpack/armor pieces feels like a tough choice. As an aside, the titanium metallic left arm isn't totally out of the ordinary since the construction team commander has a titanium metallic right arm, which I'd interpreted as possibly a prosthetic (since it didn't match the color scheme of the other two commanders). The titanium metallic on the Futuron-esque torso looks fine to me though what would really elevate that torso, in my opinion, would be if the right arm were reddish orange to match that side of the torso print. Unfortunately I think reddish orange still has yet to be used for fig parts aside from printing.
  12. Saw them on Instagram. Unfortunately don't know the original source.
  13. Just saw pics of three more (smaller) Dreamzzz sets: 71479 Zoey's Cat Motorcycle, 71480 Logan the Mighty Panda, and 71481 Izzie's Dream Animals. The last of those is definitely the most appealing to me, both because Izzie doesn't show up in the sets we'd seen previously and because it has cool parts like the new Red Panda for the City sets and two more colors of those cool new 3x3 macaroni tubes. The Never Witch's raven appears in all three sets carrying more of those crystal domes. The pics I've seen so far are too small to tell if the contents of those domes are repeated from other sets or unique to those ones. Even if they're unique, though, I'm not sure it's enough to make me completionist about it.
  14. The Rambling Brick has pictures! The new shoulder armor looks particularly cool, even if I'm not sure I'd personally have use for it (since the new City astronauts already have pretty good color-coded neck accessories). The "Futuron-style torsos" might be a looser interpretation and looks like the new reddish orange rather than coral.
  15. Just saw two more set pictures... a very nice looking excavator and sightseeing bus. Looks like a new stroller piece for the babyfig in the bus set.
  16. TBH I don't think classic space fans are in a place to complain about non-enclosed interiors, given how those sets' bases tended to be. :P
  17. Hm... not knowing where it came from it might be safest to avoid posting something like that here directly in case it's a leak. It definitely has the look of something that could be a real set—The use of the 1x6 slope bricks in particular indicates that if it's a MOC it would have to be a fairly recent one, since those were only introduced last year. And the similar 1x4 slopes without studs (used around the tail lights) would be a brand-new part if they're real (though if it's a MOC it could be something from a clone brand or something).
  18. Beyond the factor of whether such dice would be practical for players, it'd also probably be pretty expensive. Back when the Lego Games theme launched I remember hearing that the die piece (with studs facing six directions and a core overmolded with rubbery plastic) was one of the most expensive Lego elements to design and engineer at the time. An even more complex dice piece, with studs oriented in even more directions, would probably cost even more...
  19. Lego Users Group, organizations for AFOLs to meet up and collaborate with other local AFOLs. Some LUGs are registered with Lego to receive certain benefits like support for collaborative displays, which are called RLUGs (Registered Lego Users Groups).
  20. One you didn't mention that I personally think could be cool would be something like a hardware store (with building materials, tools, etc. for sale). I feel like that would also pair well story-wise with some other subjects, such as maybe a house or business next door being built or renovated.
  21. Of character molds they already have, Bluebear, Cheri, and Stitches (bear cubs) and Bob (cat) would be some of the ones at the top of my wishlist. But I am very hopeful for additional species of villagers as well. Some could probably make do with new head molds, but certain others might justify molds for features like legs, arms, or tails (one that could be especially fun is a leg mold for the small number of octopus villagers). I don't think K.K., Chrissy, and Francine appearing on prints is specifically teasing their release, since their appearances on prints are based on particular K.K. album covers (the latter two appearing on Bubblegum K.K., which appears in Rosie's house set since it is used for her house's music in-game as well). Obviously they're sure to include K.K. sooner or later, though, and I wouldn't oppose the other two appearing either. Even though rumors so far don't seem to suggest that there will be an Animal Crossing figure series this year, I'm hoping the incredibly positive reception to these sets might result in one next year. That kind of figure series could help widen the selection of characters dramatically. By the way, I visited my sister @Aanchir last week and she had some very neat digital WIPs of some various houses and furniture items, in the somewhat simplified style of this theme's sets. Hoping maybe she could share those at some point since they looked great!
  22. For your own personal use, anything is fine. Personally I avoid it partly because I dislike making irreversible changes to parts when MOCing and partly because I like the idea of MOCs and things being easily reproducible (even if in practice it's not like I tend to publish instructions or anything for the things I build).
  23. The Mario sets have typically tended to be kept under wraps pretty well until an "official" reveal, so I wouldn't necessarily hold my breath for early leaks of the Animal Crossing sets. And unlike Mar10 day when we can typically rely on some sort of official reveal, there's no specific date when Animal Crossing merch can be expected to be revealed. So it's really tough to say when we might expect those sets to be revealed, other than likely being revealed at least a month before their scheduled release date.
  24. Nobody is saying you have to care. At least until we see this system put to use more widely, it's really only of interest to typography/graphic design enthusiasts.
  25. http://bricksfanz.com/lego-space-themed-promo-gifts-revealed/ Apparently a German retailer has added some items themed around this year's space sets! Nothing too exciting, although that duffel bag is cute. And the sticker sheets feature another alien variant with a one-eyed face printed on a 1x1 round brick... wonder if that's just something they came up with for the merch or something that'll appear in sets at some point.
