Thanks for stopping by! I'm thinking about more architectural details, like something under the edge of the roof, but since it's not the same on each side, it may prove troublesome. (two sides of of the building have an 1 stud roof overhang, the other two do not so that the fencing on the roof keeps it's spacing.) I'll see what I can do in LDD first before ordering bricks.

Union Pacific diesel - EMD F40PH - A & B units
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
sorry for the double post, but the first post has been updated with real life pictures and an updated LDD file. Please see the first post for more details! Also, could a MOD could please change the topic title to "F40PH diesels with express passenger train"? It would be much appreciated. -
I just want to say thanks to Action & Adventure moderator Peppermint_M for moving this thread to the Town Forum. I figured it might get to a wider audience since it is a building after all.
-
It was either use the panels, make it look good, and possibly build it, OR use cloth sails from set 4184 at $70 (US) for the whole sail set, then buying two whole sails-sets of them, at $140 US totals and make the ship potentially look better but never buy it. The first option seemed a better deal.... though I never built the ship.
-
Thank you. I based the sails on the Metalbeard's Seacow set, so they *should* work fine. Thank you. I haven't tested the sails, but they probably will work. Then again, I've never really seen this technique done before except for the Seacow set # 70810.

Thanks! I remember watching Wacky Racers and the Perils of Penelope Pitstop (where that picture is from) on the old cartoons-only TV channel "Boomerang" back in the early 2000's. Those older cartoons are the best! (I also think the car's name was Chuggaboom and the owner was the Anthill Mob... man, they were awesome!) Thank you! The tramp steamer is also my favorite, with a close second run by the seaplane.

I believe sand red was discontinued as a color in 2005. It was only around in sets from 2001 - to 2004, and think I remember reading it was cast off during the later part of the Great Color Swap of the early 2000's.

(This may apply to the Action & Adventure theme forum, but since it's just a bunch of vehicles I put it here. Sorry if this topic needs to be moved!) Tramp Steamer I built this ship from two Adventurers sets: I used the boat from set 5975 (T-Rex Transport) and modified slightly to resemble set 5976 (River Expedition). The ship features a boiler, steering wheel and a bigger smoke-stack. I have also added a complete bridge with removable roof instead of the open topped one on my previous version of the ship. The top floor of the ship is the bridge - this area contains a nautical telegraph (to control speed) and the wheel (to control direction)... and yes, there is a piece out of place. I fixed it after taking this photo. The lower floor features the boiler room. It is empty right now, but could be re-purposed into a captain's cabin. Island Hopper seaplane This is a seaplane based off 2008 Indiana Jones set 7628 (Peril In Peru), along with inspiration from 2000 Adventurers set 5935 (Island Hopper) thrown in for good measure. This part goes on both sides of the tail: http://alpha.brickli...=87079pb006#T=C The plane now has a interior that seats five people: 1 pilot and four passengers. Treasure Chaser - Johnny Thunder's ride This model was inspired by sets 7622, Race for the Stolen Treasure, and 5918, Scorpion Tracker. Ford Model AA truck This one was heavily inspired by set 10222, Winter Village Post Office. I originally built it from the pictures before instructions came out. 1922 MOON Automobile This car was originally a Rolls Royce Phantom MKII first designed by Carl Greatrix that got transformed into a MOON Touring car. (no, the the jalopy from the Apollo Moon missions, but the car company from St. Louis MO!) once I realized how close they were to each other in style cues. I guess I did the usual car building process backwards: build the car, then find a real life counterpart, instead of building the car off a specific type. Roaring 20's Gangster Sedan This model was modified from set 7682, Shanghai Chase. Perfect for smuggling illegal alcohol or setting up a drive by for friendly meeting with the rival gangs. Gasoline tanker truck Built from set 7683, Fight on the Flying Wing and modified to have a radiator grille and a better fuel tank. Island Racer mark II I modified my copy of set 5920 to have a longer wheelbase and a spare wheel. I also modernized the engine area with special attention paid to the grille. Lord Sam Sinister's personal vehicle This model was inspired by the recent announcement of the Super Man "Action Comics Number 1" exclusive San Diego Comic Con 2015 LEGO set, which I then extended and improved into the model seen here. This part goes on the rear license plate spot: http://www.bricklink....asp?P=3069bpa1 and as a bonus here is my favorite picture: A Sinister Encounter In case you wonder what is so sinister about the picture, the name of the person who owns the house is Lord Sam Sinister, an evil man who hates the owner of the plane: Johnny Thunder and his friend and aviatrix of the seaplane, Pippin Reed.

I currently have 16 locos, 2 streetcars, 34 passenger cars, 9 freight cars, and 6 buildings. This means 68 trains-related stuff total!
-
My dad was into Lego before LEGO gears came out. He got me started with his nearly-complete 9v collection, and now I have probably more custom trains (~60 MOCs) than his sets (~55, not including multiples)!!

Union Pacific diesel - EMD F40PH - A & B units
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sorry for the late reply, but I can see now that I was wrong on the beaver tail end coach. I have made changes accordingly, so please see the first post for a picture. Also, I re-colored the engine the to blue with yellow and black to compliment set 60052: Cargo Train. As the engine in the set is freight, this one is passenger based. I even kept the windows the same light blue color, and yellow warning stripes on the cab end to compliment each other. Speaking of the cab, the roof is removable to place the engineer inside at the controls. This also increases play-ability. here is the front of the newly re-colored loco. I also ordered this engine a while ago. The part orders should be here by next Tuesday, so stay tuned for real pictures! -
909 National Limited with 2-10-4 "Texas" type steam engine
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That's a very good idea: I may just put a black stripe under the windows. Thanks for the idea! -
I only used Technic sails because cloth ones are very expensive. The way the sails are oriented is because that's how they appear to be in set 4184: http://brickset.com/...The-Black-Pearl The original Black Pearl ship model was colored this way, so I took it a step farther with a elongated hull, more cannons, and a real deck. Also, I haven't come up with a crew yet. Thanks to everyone for stopping by with their suggestions!

909 National Limited with 2-10-4 "Texas" type steam engine
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thank you, and yeah, it's supposed to run from New York City - New York, to Los Angeles - California with stops in Washington - DC, St. Louis - Missouri, & Denver - Colorado. It's a very long distance train! EDIT: Almost forgot: The third coach (fifth car total) is almost finished! I just need for the wheels / assorted misc. parts to get here. -

The first post has been updated with new pictures and new LDD file! Not only is this proof that I do "swoosh" my Lego planes / spaceships, but it makes an awesome Adventurers-themed desktop background! I call this picture "A Sinister Encounter". If you must know why, please see this thread: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=113860 EDIT: Can a mod please change the title to the following: Adventurers - Island Hopper seaplane - real life - 5935 MOD

Pirate vessel off the port bow! Ready the cannons and prepare for battle! Three Masts 21B Here is the pirate vessel, the Terror. She now has Technic sails, as the original cloth ones were VERY expensive. The ship is 100% build-able, and perosnally I think it looks better with Technic sails than the cloth ones. I had the Black Pearl by M***B**** back way in 2007. I got it when there were no LEGO pirates offerings, (at least cheap ones!) I eventually destroyed it & threw it out (I think) Anyway, I had a massive pirates-meets-trains layout with a VERY long dock, and am wanting to get it started again, but with all LEGO parts. As of 8/31/15: this model has been shortened to a better length of 1 less bottom section and just 8 cannons instead of the original 10. This ship features: -Removable deck pieces -8 firing cannons -Revamped Angel statue -Raised captains quarters Also, the name TERROR is supposed to be spelled out the stern, just below the lanterns using printed 1x1 tiles. This flag goes above the rear sail: http://alpha.brickli...25pb008#T=C&C=1 Here is the LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1441049410m.lxf EDIT: and here is the Terror's adversary, the HMS Archangel: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=114065

Bluecoat Ship ahoy! In response to the increased threat from pirates and redcoats alike, the ship builders of the home country of Bluecoat forces ordered a ship to match, or beat, the pirates feared Brick Bounty. This ship turned out to be the HMS Arcangel, which features six guns, three masts, a lifeboat, and opening captain's quarters with hideaway for valuable maps, charts and medical supplies. Fully Rigged, Two Square Sails on the Main 12B Okay, so the ship took a while to do: I wanted to take set 70413 Brick Bounty and make a non-pirate ship from it, and it took a month to do so. Also, the sails are Technic panels, so if you don't like that, you are out of luck. here is the Captain's quarters, with hideaway for secret maps, medical supplies, or just "sparking water' (read: alcohol) you don't want to share with anyone. This piece should go on the stern flag pole: http://alpha.brickli...25pb007#T=C&C=1 LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1440615456m.lxf My updated version of the Black Pearl shall be coming soon to it's own topic! Southern Pacific 4460 - the Forgotten Daylight - version 3
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks, and no she is not powered. Here is a picture of the engine sitting with it's Lego counterpart: Today, the engine sits in a off-limits area (I received permission to take this photo from museum staff) and is barely visible to visitors, only by knowing where to look in the Roberts Shed and leaning over a railing can you see the beauty that is 4460.- 21 replies

Southern Pacific 4460 - the Forgotten Daylight - version 3
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
here you go! Here is the side of the locomotive. (dang it - I just realized I put the the wheels on rear bogie of the engine too far apart!) This picture shows how much overhang (not much, really) the engine has in standard LEGO curves. This picture is slightly out of focus. Sorry! Any other pictures you might need in order to build you own?- 21 replies

As some of you may know, I changed the black-and-red Texas type steam engine to a more photogenic reddish brown color and added a bigger smoke-box door to the front of the engine. Here is the original version of this engine from a few months back. ...and here is the new version, with a photo taken earlier this month. Their was one problem with this engine though. It had only my 8-studs wide 34-studs long train cars for it to pull. These four (yes, only four) train cars looked really weird next the engine, as the cars were almost as long as the engine (without the tender)! So, I set about redesigning the coaches, which had named the 909 National limited. Here is the results of that rebuilding: This car is the baggage / passenger car, also known as a combine. These two cars are passenger coaches, though I might just make a third one someday. Also, as you may have noticed, the cars are too far apart from each other. This was fixed by moving the wheels back a hole in the train base soon after the photos were taken. The car you see here is just the observation with it's "909" plaque on the rear. Where did get the idea for these tain cars in the first place? They were inspired by a 8 wide Galaxy Express 999 MOC I saw years ago on Brickshelf. (see it here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=374748 ) The name of this train was changed to the tune of the Beatles song "One after 909" from the album "Let it Be". Then I tried a bunch of words after that could go with 909, including the following: limited, express, cannonball, flyer, runner, and a bunch of other names and combination of said names I can't recall. Eventually, I ran into National Limited on accident when correcting a typo. I liked the way it sounded, and thus 909 National Limited was born. As a side note, the LDD file for the coaches cannot be given out, for two reasons: 1) MOCpages is having issues with missing pictures, e-mail notifications, and the broken activity bar. MOCpages also happens to be where I upload my LDD files. 2) I made these train spur-of-the-moment, and thus their is no file to give out anyway! I'm quite sure you could figure out how the coaches were made, but if you can't, I will make an LDD file and upload it when MOCpages gets back on the right track. (train pun intended!)

I actually thought the Lone Ranger was a good film, with a ton of cool scenes with trains.... though I may be biased because I love trains! The flashback point of view from the 1930's was a bit annoying though...

Thank you, I just hope five, ten, maybe fifteen years from now people will still remember LU... as I certainly will. Maybe Lego will make orange astronauts / faction outfits - compatible with LU. The Galaxy Squad sets were good, but we need more faction stuff, like the Agents headpiece can be used for summoners: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=19023c01#T=C&C=1
