  1. Ahoy there, and welcome to Jose's Inn, located on the scenic Skull Rock boardwalk just a stone throws away from the pirate port itself! This Inn has all amenities of (both ship-or-land-based) home, such as five cozy beds and a large wine cellar stocked with all best ale's, beers, wines and spirits. The food served is guaranteed by our cook Dan "Dysentery" McGee to be the best served in all the world's navies, with no-maggots* crackers a staple of the pre-dinner meal! We are also proud to feature twice-a-week amusements by "Davy Jones and the Cursed Immortals" as our house band on Monday and Friday nights. Come around for such hearty songs such as "Point of Know Return", "Wooden Ships", "Octopus's Garden", with "Hotel in Tortuga" as their usual closer. The rear of the tavern, with the crow's nest-like lookout on top. Inside and upstairs are the (cost is per night) beds. Downstairs is the tavern area. So come on down to Jose's Inn, where our famous waitstaff (Manfred the waiter on left, Rosemary the barkeep on right) will treat you like old friends! (*Crackers may or may not contain maggots. Resulting disease may vary; Check with your local barber for more details on whether the crackers may be safe for you!) Davy Jones and the Undead Immortals Band are, from left to right: - Cpt. Vanderdecken, on drums (cursed God on a trip round the horn of Africa, so God cursed him) - Corporal Punishment, on guitar (from a Spanish expedition to El Dorado) - Major Paine, on bass guitar (officer from the English Civil War) - Davy Jones, on vocals (made a deal with goddess Calypso to ferry souls to underworld) NOTE: Their instruments are made from ectoplasm and not visible to living beings, thus they are not visible here. MODEL NOTES: This tavern idea came to me in early February, and was built in late May, and is based off set 31109's B-model with the printed sign from set Pirates of Barracuda Bay (from the Ideas set 21332 number . I thought I should build accommodations for my pirate crews upon arriving at Skull Rock, and it will hook into the boardwalk via clips on both sides of the model's dock easily. The song list is the one I thought long and hard about... thinking of REAL songs with pirate or ship themes, however slight, was hard! However, the easiest one to add was because of @Professor Thaum and his awesome pirate-y rendition of Hotel California, as seen in the post linked to above in the actual song list and again here, because I love it so much. Comments, questions, suggestions, and complaints welcome!
  2. Do you think these will help @Mister Phes? I plan on buying these four palm trees along with the Minecraft pirate ship soon. I just placed a lego.com order for set 31109 (Creator Pirate Ship) for use as the Jolly Rodger for Captain Hook. (yes, it's not exactly the same as the ship from 1951's Peter Pan film, but it's close enough for me to slap the name tile on the back!) Look at the flag pole with the skull-n-crossbones on it, @Faladrin, in the main (first) pic. The monkey is hanging onto it.
  3. Hey, @Mister Phes, what kind of ship do you think the Yago is, technically? I couldn't think of how to classify it, and wanted to add it to the keywords. Thanks in advance!
  4. Yep! He's quite content with this and has the newly-built harbor at Skull Rock to call home for when not at sea. Thanks, I like it too. It's coloration was inspired by the "Flying Dutchman" Spongebob set (number 3817) from 2012. That picture is for showing of what's in the included LDD file. It probably won't be replaced as I want people to know what's in the link! However, I eventually will get the two models (pirate ship Yago and Skull Rock) setup together when the lighthouse is finally done.
  5. Thanks @Jack Sassy, I think so too! Thank you @CaptainPolluxofOrion, it was @Faladrin who inspired me to do this with his original MOD of set 71717. The first post has been updated with new pictures, as it's only lacking the Lighthouse now to complete it 100%. More pictures of the inside details in the first post!
  6. Just added the lighthouse MOC to the first post, @Jack Sassy. I was inspired by the spinning lens from 70431 (Lighthouse of Darkness) from the Hidden Side theme for this MOC. (This section of the dock will replace the current crane section.)
  7. Thank you @Stoertebricker! The color of the ship is regular green. (the same as on the "Flying Dutchman" Spongebob set from 2012.)
  8. My white background seemed unsuitable with the white hull, so I went with my best-available dark blue background. Also, not sure what you mean by more photos, I uploaded every shot I could think off that would be interesting.
  9. Built this today and yesterday. I've realized that all the set 71722's features are tied together by gearing / rods, such as: - The rotating scythes on the walkway to the officer's quarters behind the eyes. - the moving "wave" walkway to the base of the waterfall. (which opens up!) - the lowering / raising of the wooden cage holding the Admiral ..and all this is activated by cranking the large U-shaped handle on the left! The set conversion from lava to water isn't finished, as I'm still waiting for the last Bricklink order to arrive to attach set 71717, finish 71722, and add in the custom dock (seen above) to the total MOC model, which you can see in it's topic here.
  10. @Corydoras @Jack Sassy @Faladrin @Mister Phes Ahoy everyone! The Yago is is done, with updated pictures and text in the first post! I hope it looks as good as I think it does, but don't feel like I can't take the critics... I'm ready and waiting for any and all broadsides!
  11. Just finished the modular docks! The whole Skull Rock island model is almost (~97%) completed! This model comes apart into three modular sections: - The working wooden crane (left side) - The corner with cannon (behind the others) - The dock extension (right side) ..still waiting for one BL order to come in.... not sure when that will be, but hopefully soon!
  12. Ok, @Faladrin , @Jack Sassy, and @Mister Phes, what do you think of this WIP shot below? The island is known to the area's native islanders as Hazar-dues, or to it's pirate inhabitants and imperial captives as Skull Rock. The set conversion isn't finished, as I'm still waiting for the last Bricklink order to arrive to attach set 71717 / the custom dock to this model. I've also realized that all the set 71722's features are tied together by gearing / rods, such as: - The rotating scythes on the walkway to the officer's quarters behind the eyes. - the moving "wave" walkway to the base of the waterfall. (which opens up!) - the lowering / raising of the wooden cage holding the Admiral ..and all this is activated by cranking the large U-shaped handle on the left! I'm gonna update the first post in a second with this new info / features.
  13. Sorry, but I can't find the file @McDiesel92. I don't remember what I called it amongst my hundreds of files.
  14. This strange, pixelated-looking ship with the cow-shaped figurehead has sailed the digital seas and plundered many a helpless Minecraft village. The NPC life was good for the three man crew of the "Seacow", but a chance encounter with a User Exit Portal (think like TRON) sent the pirate ship Seacow into the real world, albeit still in it's 8-bit form. Now, stuck in an unfamiliar world with strange logic, (Round surfaces? What is this deviltry!?!) the crew of the Seacow with it's Captain and nameless crew will have to navigate a way back to their computer paradise from the Pacific Ocean using "digitalized" mariner techniques. This ship was inspired by set 21152 (Pirate Ship) from Minecraft theme, (and the Seacow steampunk pirate ship from TLM) this pirate ship is finally done in real life! The ship's name (Seacow) is proudly placed on the stern railing. The ship breaks into three parts for storage (or for sinking scenes!), and comes with a plank for walking people into a watery grave that slides left and right that is located in the middle section. Here we see Minecraft pirate Captain Steve (also known as Peg-Leg Stevie, to differentiate himself from the famous original Steve) of the pixelated ship "Seacow". The crew are nameless and dimwitted, a curse of being former digital NPCs. They go by various nicknames the Captain gives them, but are most commonly known by the label seen above their heads: Pirate One (in middle with sash) and Pirate Two (on right in dark blue jacket). Comments, questions, suggestions, and complaints welcome! (Also, as an aside to the Moderator's, I put this is "Pirate MOCs" to hopefully get more comments on it... I don't think the "Licensed theme" is right for it, as it IS a pirate ship, after all!)
  15. I've always wanted LEGO to officially make a ocean liner, like the original Queen Mary or the Titanic. I even made my own custom four funnel ocean liner, named the RMS Acadia, though I would've loved to make the Titanic instead. (too expensive for my budget in 2011.) So this news is fantastic for the Titanic fanatic in me! (I've been watching the 1950's Titanic movie, "A Night to Remember" on DVD / VHS, on the anniversary of sinking since as long as I can remember, so I'm really, really excited about this!) EDIT: You guys who want the iceberg, can use this part or or it's plain white version as a starting point for that, like I did with my ship.
  16. I am patiently waiting for parts to arrive so I can build my green pirate ship / 21332 MOD and Pirates skull island. Here's a pic of what most of what I ordered, along with sets Ninjago 71722 and 71717.
  17. Just another imagining of Emmett's house from after the events of The Lego Movie 2, in colors of set 70831, (Emmet's Dream House/Rescue Rocket!) but in the style of 10228. (Haunted House) The model opens up like a dollhouse, and lock shut on a technic pin. This flight of fancy is 100% build-able in real bricks, should I ever choose to do so. The black antenna you see on the roof is for the TV inside the house. You may ask: "Why does a Edwardian home have a vintage TV antenna?" Here is the answer: The home is based in the interior decorating styles of the 1950's, but was originally built in 1910's. It was bought as a gutted wreck by Emmet and Lucy a couple years back, and they restored it to it's former glory. (with some mid-'50's-esque additions, of course) On the side of the house is the kitchen door, which leads to the car in the driveway. On the opposite side of the home is the chimney flue, with TV antenna attached at the top. Inside the front door is the living room, with vintage rabbit-eared TV, Planty, a lamp, and Aqua-colored couch. Also on this floor we have the stove / oven unit. Upstairs is the rotary telephone and grandfather clock. The double bed, record player, and a display cabinet are also on this floor. The studs on the new fireplace should have number tiles reading 1914, as that's when the house was built.... and it's 100 years before the original LEGO Movie came out. (The two medium blue posters on the second level should have stickers depicting Emmett & Lucy both as pictures in frames.) The car is inspired by this recent @hachiroku Indiana Jones 4 build as seen here. This car fits in with Emmet's original smart car color-wise, but just a little older style-wise. (Most of the car model is already built from my last model of Emmett's house, but a few parts for the new lower side skirts are still needed.) The rear has a license plate and two (new!) coverings almost fully obscuring the rear wheels, in true early-'50's style. Six new brackets are missing from the car model on the rear bumper. (Two of these pieces in Light Bluish Gray, along with Four of this part in Black are required to finish the car.) The roof is held on by four studs, and is as such removable. I have also included light bluish gray upholstery for the back of the seat, which can fit two people next to each other. (Emmett and Lucy are the most likely occupants, obviously.) LDD file available for the complete house and car at Bricksafe here. Well, what do you think? Comments, questions, and complaints welcome!
  18. The light house of Skull Rock was once kept lit by a order of monks, who believed the nearby skull-shaped cliff face (carved by the former native islander inhabitants) was a sign from "The Man Upstairs" that is was an evil place. The monks were later killed off in 1708 by scurvy and other diseases, leaving only one alive who went insane from the ordeal, claiming he saw ghosts of several past wrecked ships' captains. In 1710, the pirate Captain Henry Smithfield of the infamous "Yago" found skull island and skillfully managed to sail through the island coral reefs unaided except by the light and a keen sailor's intuition. He was inspired to take over operation of the light, but eventually had to maroon the mad monk on a nearby deserted island as he was too crazy even for pirates! The light is still lit only occasionally, mostly when trying to wreck merchant and pirate hunter ships onto the reefs to be plundered thereon. This island is known to the area's native islanders as Hazar-dues, or to it's pirate inhabitants and imperial captives as Skull Rock. NOTE: The name of the island is said like the word, "Hazardous" (which is quite apt for it's windswept rocky surface!) I'm taking @Faladrin lead with his similar model and one-upping it to include the entire skull rock, and a dock for pirate ships of all types! NOTES: The set conversion is mostly (98%) finished as of 1/28/21. The as-yet unbuilt lighthouse portion is on order from Bricklink as of yesterday. This new piece will replace the crane section of the dock. I've also realized that all the set 71722's features are tied together by gearing / rods, such as: - The rotating scythes on the walkway to the officer's quarters behind the eyes. - the moving "wave" walkway to the base of the waterfall. (which opens up!) - the lowering / raising of the wooden cage holding the (deceased) bluecoat Admiral. ..and all this is activated by cranking the large U-shaped handle on the left! The front clips of sets 71722 (Skull Sorcerer's Dungeons) connect to a wooden dock model (seen below). The two Ninjago set's (the other is 71717, Journey to the Skull Dungeons) will be modified to have blue parts instead of orange and trans-orange for the bases and "lava drip" parts. I plan on using these sets, plus this dock, in conjunction with my other pirate ships, seen below. Inside the lower portion of Skull rock is the pirates treasure room, with gold aplenty and a few jewels. The upper floor is for the Captain Smithfield when not at sea. Here is the lighthouse proper. The wooden crane is for offloading cargo / loot off the smaller boats after leaving the big pirate ship. The spinning lens idea is from 70431 (Lighthouse of Darkness) from the Hidden Side theme. The front clips of sets 71722 (Skull Sorcerer's Dungeons) connect to a wooden dock model. (seen farther down the page) The two Ninjago set's (the other is 71717, Journey to the Skull Dungeons) are currently being modified to have blue parts instead of orange and trans-orange for the bases and "lava drip" parts. I plan on using these sets, plus all the custom dock / lighthouse parts for my island. This building model comes apart into three modular sections: - lighthouse, lower level (this is sleeping / storage area for the crew when not at sea.) - light house, upper level (storage area for whale oil for keeping the light lit) - actual light - (rotates around, though it's usually lit for use in misguiding ships onto the nearby rocky coral reef surrounding Skull Island.) The docks model also comes apart into three modular sections: - The working wooden crane (left side, which will be implemented into the lighthouse) - The corner with cannon (behind the others) - The dock extension (right side) Here is that unlucky monk today, with his one-shot pistol on Twenty-paces Island. (I'm getting a palm tree for this island.... still have to order the parts!) The whole setup of Skull Rock so far. The Minecraft-based Seacow, as captained by Peg-Leg Stevie. Not sure what to call this type of ship, though it kinda reminds me of the Santa Maria from Columbus' first trip. The brig Yago, as seen here and captained by Henry Smithfield. The Golden Bounty pirate junk, as seen in this topic and led by Captain Soto. (picture of Joly Roger goes here) Captain Hook's Jolly Roger isn't done yet, so no picture or topic... waiting on a certain flying boy for that. The Silver Crab is not built yet, but is captained by Bob "The Sponge" Squarepants and can be found here. This is the Hell Bent, and is led by Captain Victor "Jawbone" Blucher. It can be found here.
  19. I just wanna say the Western loco on the second shelf from the top on this picture, third from left, is everything that was missing from the original Western theme. Too bad they went with monorail based ones for that theme, which STILL never made it to production!
  20. Thanks, I'll be sure to tag you for future updates @Jack Sassy! You guys can now build you're own version of "The Yago" and it's dock now that the LDD file is available here at my Bricksafe page. NOTE: six parts are missing from the file: Two of this 1 x 2 rounded-edge plate in black, for the rudder. Four of this black part 1x1 bracket, near the bow. There are some pieces placed next to the ship, which are for the rudder, above the amidships ladder on the sides, and for the bowsprit area.
  21. Same as @Digger of Bricks: Trains, Classic Space, and Adventurers FTW!
  22. This looks awesome! Really great job, @Laura Beinbrech. I especially love the references / tie-ins to other franchises, such as Cpt. Hook's ship* and the Pirates of the Caribbean universe. (*Yes, I got that reference!) Any new plans for the Neo-confederate navy after all this time? I (and I don't think I'm alone in asking!) would really like to see that pocket battleship, if you have a digital image...
  23. I'm personally eyeing the Ninjago's lavender-skinned Islanders from this year to become denizens of the island-next-door to the skull rock I'm building, @Faladrin. (The totem pole heads and catamaran are just what I need to spice it up, and the teal dragon might work too.) I can't wait to see this all fleshed out!
  24. I just purchased sets 71717 (Journey to the Skull Dungeons) and 717722 (Skull Sorcerer's Dungeons) from Amazon, as LEGO.com no longer had them. (I just need to turn the all the orange / trans-orange parts to blue for use as an island when they get here!)
  25. Thanks for commenting @Corydoras! I made the sails the way I did for strength... they would be way too weak without any frontal support. As for the sail, I couldn't think of a good shape, but then I remember a wooden ship model I had WAY back when I was 6. It had a sail similar to this... I think. Also, I have news! I'm taking @Faladrin's lead with his similar model and one-upping it to include the entire skull rock, and a dock for my soon-to-be-built pirate ship! (I got this image from Brickset, which I then shrank way down to fit my needs.) The front clips of sets 71722 (Skull Sorcerer's Dungeons) connect to a wooden dock model (seen below). The two Ninjago set's (the other is 71717, Journey to the Skull Dungeons) will be modified to have blue parts instead of orange and trans-orange for the bases and "lava drip" parts. I plan on using these sets, plus this dock, in conjunction with my green 21332 MOD (with brick-built sails from 31109) pirate ship. This model comes apart into three modular sections: - The working wooden crane (left side) - The corner with flagpole (middle section) - The dock extension (right side) Thoughts, comments, or complaints?
