[SR - MCRA] Leaving Granoleon...
Captain Dee replied to Vedauwoo's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ohhh... the mere sight of that sand bar makes my head hurt... This is a really good scene of a not-so-good outcome. The sandbar looks great - nice and smooth, like it should look. Too bad it had to happen, eh? Seeing these pics makes me think I probably didn't appreciate the overall design enough when you first posted it. -
Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to Darkdragon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Welcome aboard, Kwatchi! (from a Corringtonian) You have a rough & rowdy good-looking cast of characters. -
As someone mentioned, it does have a certain comic/graphic novel feel, and we all know the good guys aren't affected by bombs going off in the immediate vicinity, right?

[SR - MCRA] It's Kind of a Likely Story
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yes, the vessel is indeed recognizable, and the story doesn't sound far-fetched at all. Steer clear of mermaids, eh? I like the little bar too; it helps the storytelling a lot. -
Very nice sloop apart from the small mainsail. The design is nice (nod to kurigan) and I like the colors. She's a very sleek and fast-looking vessel.

[SR - FB3] Antigone's Fury (Class 5T)
Captain Dee replied to Vedauwoo's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Another fine ship! I'm picking up lots of IFS design cues, and the size and colorscheme are both good. I like all the hull decor, especially the stern, although it's a bit tall for my tastes. The rigging looks pretty good, and I see you already have some good advice towards it. Overall she's a fine vessel. I approve. -
Travelling to Bastion
Captain Dee replied to Ulric Brickenheim's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a decent start. The basics are there, but the mast looks too tall for the short hull length, and it should probably be carrying one square sail with a jib over the bowsprit. The cannon platform hanging off the stern looks pretty flimsy; turntable-mounted guns weren't common in that time either. Positioning the gun down low would improve the balance. But it's a good start. -

Nice job on the custom hull and in building an older type of vessel. It's really smooth and the presentation is simply beautiful. But it does look like it's sailing on top of the water rather than in it. Good work anyway. -
That's a beautiful scene with good landscaping and nicely detailed water. The raft is cool but I don't envy anyone who has to sail it. The fish are a neat feature. Good work.

Excellent creation. The wave is just brilliant and the (mythical) sea monster is cool. Of course the ship is the star - that hull technique is wonderful and the overall design and colorscheme are really good. The sharp bow reminds me more of the late age of sail, but it fits this forum anyway. It's a very sleek design and looks really fast. Good work!

Captain Dee replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's a neat little blacksmith. I just wish we could see more pics of the side and back. The columns are cool and that roof technique is my favorite way of using the CMF baseplates for a roof. You have some good details, and I'm assuming the white round piece is a whetstone. One thing that looks odd to me is the way the chimney hangs over the hearth with no corner supports, like a modern vent. Considering the weight of a stone chimney I think it would look more realistic with some corner supports at least. Other than that and the lack of visible fire/smoke (since the one worker appears to be quenching a hot blade) this is a fine little build. -

First of all, I like how you begin with the introductory scene. That's a neat idea. Beautiful galleon! The first pic is simply wonderful. I want to download it and use it as a wallpaper on my PC. This has to be one of the best prefab galleons I've ever seen. The design is fairly basic but turned out exceptionally well. The slope bricks look pretty good but for me it's simply a well-planned and nicely proportioned vessel. The colors are nice and the light-colored upper railing displays the classic galleon form almost perfectly. The stern looks good with all the decorated elements and the headrails are my favorite type of design, even if tubes/hoses may be smoother. But what's most appealing is the fact that this demonstrates anyone can build a really good galleon without using lots of advanced techniques and huge numbers of pieces. Questions often arise about how to differentiate between the different types of ships and this shows the defining galleon features really well: elongated prow (made highly visible by the flattening of the headrails), elevated forecastle, high stern, and lateen rigging on the mizzenmast. Overall this is an excellent design. Of course I approve. -

Captain Dee replied to Legostone's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice little cutter. The custom hull looks good apart from a few gaps and the rigging is really good. The overall form is just really appealing. The pic with the rowboat gives a good size comparison. Good work and keep it up. -
[OL - FB1] A Small Shipyard

Beautiful little shipyard, KB! You've crammed in a lot of good details to go with that superb little boat. Good job posing all the loose parts. Keep it up! -

Beautiful interior, especially the walls and the decorated arched windows. The furniture and other details are nice and I like how you build up your bases These 2-wall interiors have become my favorite way of depicting inside views when a full exterior isn't needed. But the irregular tiles on the top of the wall detract from it in my opinion. Good work. -
[COR - FB3] Ship: the "Eliza"
Captain Dee replied to Brickwolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a cute design if not entirely realistic. I like the colors and the short design looks like something from a storybook. I approve. -
Nice cutter. I like your work on the hull and the rigging looks nice except for the gaff sail whose lower boom seems to have come loose. She looks like a quick and capable vessel.
-
I couldn't say it any better myself! Well, technically blackpowder was a low explosive, and the bomb would've temporarily incapacitated anyone who wasn't killed or maimed by the explosion, and I doubt they'd be so calm about it all, but nice build and story nonetheless.

[Esl - FB3] : "La Raenette"
Captain Dee replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The tall cabin might be a bit much on a vessel this size, but overall it's a nice design and looks more realistic than its predecessor. The custom rigging and shape of the custom hull look really good. I approve. -
[COR - FB4 feb] Transferring Command
Captain Dee replied to Tomsche's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice wooden fortification. It's pretty basic but I like the arrangement. The thin poles holding the lookout platform look really flimsy but otherwise it's a fine build. I approve. -
[OL Ch2a] Work for nothing

I think this is a really good creative arrangement, and looks like the type of defenses that would have been built in this type of setting. The minifig selection and posing are pretty good too. -

Your arrangements just keep looking better. I'm really liking that ship... -
The New Moon Ritual of Xaponteclan
Captain Dee replied to Fuzzy MacFuzz's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a pretty good first MOC. The design is recognizable and the vegetation is nice. The lighting is a bit harsh but otherwise it looks good. -
Overall this is a solid design but I think it would look better with more variation of the red parts in the walls and with a little more detail on the ground.
