Feast at "The Spin of Fate" - FB1
Captain Dee replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a fine scene in itself, duel or no. You have a lot going on in a small space and the fact that it opens for access is really nice. I like the clutter of accessories, the wheel is a cool idea and the small chandelier is a good feature. And it's nice to see a woman in period garb, rather than trousers... Interesting counter build. Now for the judging... -
[ESL - MRCA End] : The end of the Appleseed
Captain Dee replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent depiction of the ill-fated trade run. The angled position is a lot more interesting than showing her sitting flat, and the damage and debris look reasonable. The posing of the captain and shark are both good. I like the surroundings; they're nice and colorful the way they should be. Too bad it all ended this way, but this is a fine farewell. Here's to better and more prosperous ships in the future! -
[Ol Intro] The story of Sparhawk
Captain Dee replied to Sparhawk's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Good intro. The story is well told and the builds are pretty good to match. You have some nice details and overall the scenes look decent; you've already received some good building/presentation advice so I won't address what could be improved. Keep it up.- 6 replies

The combination of colors is perfect. The facade looks pretty good head-on but the sides seem bare - adding a section of the wall would fill the scene well. The base in the very front is pretty bare to, although the flowers are nice. The guards and flagpole add a lot to the scene, and the overall atmosphere is good. Keep it up.

[ESL-FB4] Good Neighborhood, Bardo
Captain Dee replied to Sir Stig's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I like the colors well enough, and the overall shape is pretty good, but the doors look a bit too modern for the time. The other features are nice, and I always like those windows. The tree is a welcome addition as well. Keep it up. -
[ESL - FB] Wilfredo's Wagons - Bardo
Captain Dee replied to Umbra-Manis's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's a pretty good shop, and the detailed interior pic of them working looks great. The red roof support is distracting though, and the break in the roofline over the door seems a little odd. But the overall wooden design is fitting for someone building wagons. Keep it up. -
It definitely looks windy, and both the tree and dock are well designed. Some tiles would enhance the look of the dock, and both the water and sand seem pretty plain. But it conveys the overall idea well. Keep it up.

She's a pretty good design overall - cute but small. I like those colors and the rigging is pretty good for standard parts. I like Bregir's advice about adding a gaff sail, but otherwise this turned out well. Keep it up.

Nice job using those hull pieces. It's a good smooth design with plenty of usable deck space. The cabin may be a bit tall, but it reminds me a little of a caravel hull. I agree that the mast and yardarm seem a little small, but otherwise it's a pleasant design with good potential. The renders are just about perfect, except that the flags are flying the wrong way to actually be sailing. Good work. -
She's a Class 0 all right. Small, sleek and trim. The sail fits pretty well (and looks to be in perfect condition...) But she does look pretty low - I hope they don't encounter any significant waves. I'd like to see a comparo shot of all your ships - if they're built simultaneously. You've done three distinct sizes and it would be neat to see them together.

This is a beautiful interior , and honestly my only criticism is that the floor and top of the wall would both look a lot better tiled. Otherwise you have a really nice arrangement. The colors are good and the rug is a nice feature. The furnishings look great - the fireplace, desks, the big cabinet - and the ship model and globe are both typical. I like the decorated columns and the big flag hanging by the window. The black chairs do look more modern but I don't really have a problem with them. Good work.

Interesting and colorful design. I've taken some time observing all the little details. This isn't something normally seen in the Pirates forum. The sail seems to be plenty high, and I hope the cannon is well constrained to keep the recoil under control when so close to the oarsmen. The ram certainly looks the part, though it might be more effective lower in the water. I like the posing and the facial expression of the commanding officer is perfect. The backdrop and lighting are really good too - the water is especially well-lit.

[COR - Ch1 Cat A] The Mahanuhakepepepulupalo Tribe
Captain Dee replied to CelesAurivern's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's a fine setting. The statue is unique, the trees framing it are nice and I like the throne. The various minifigs are nice, and it's funny how this time the woman is peeking at them. The flash is a bit harsh in a few of the pics but besides that this is a good build and a nice challenge entry.- 6 replies

[COR - Ch1 Cat B] Where only the strange men go...
Captain Dee replied to SilentWolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ah... a return to the days of classic pirates and hidden gold... Interesting story and good job building the cave into the base. The location looks pretty remote and the story of the pig is realistic. The lighting of the torch is really good in the one pic. The landscape is fairly basic but you have some nice terrain variation. Overall it's a nice expansive build. -
This is a unique situation. I'm pretty sure the leak as part of the MCRA had nothing to do with the story you presented with your MOC - rather a leaky ship is a possible outcome of the game, in this case a tidy coincidence. I can't answer your question about MOCing the results but it does seem silly to do the exact same thing over.

Welcome aboard BoBS, Phadeout! (from a Corry) Your story sounds good, and we're all eager to see the pics if you can get them fixed. Edit: Nice collection of pics! The room looks great with the arches and decorative wings and the beach scene is nice. Good cast of characters so far. Love that Creator palm tree.- 780 replies

There are lots of questions right now, which is understandable considering the scenarios in question, but Ska being the general mastermind, I think we should wait for his input. I was recognized as one of Corrington's leaders; however this is currently a supporting role but I'll help where I can. @Faladrin - I believe the rule about plantations matching the settlement level was put aside at least for now. Your tax idea makes sense, but remember, this is not actually paid by the builder in most scenarios, but is simply earned by the faction. For the idea to work there would have to be an actual payable tax or a fee of some type. I've been approving third+ freebuilds pretty freely through this first month - but if I suspect people are building the easiest and simplest things possible (expressed as lots of plantations) just to earn quick DBs I don't think I'll grant my approval on applicable builds (obviously you get your first two). A real effort needs to be obvious. We'll get the answers to all these captured ship/cargo questions soon enough I think! I'll finish with a friendly reminder - I'm tallying approvals on your third+ monthly freebuilds, and you must ID them as such (not necessarily in the title, but at least in the text) and get them posted in the registration thread, plus fill out the webform. You could help us out by posting all your FBs in one post per month, by editing in any additional material. It's a lot easier to go through it that way vs having a new post for every freebuild.

I may not have made my own point very well. I was in a hurry when I wrote that spiel, but ultimately I wished to express the thought that you're just too good of a source of knowledge to remain silent with regards to BoBS specifically. You and I know about those indices and other sources of info, but as you said, some of these folks are here for a game and either don't know of these resources or won't look them up when told (I've tried). I certainly don't see you as some know-it-all jerk, and I understand you haven't said anything disparaging - I just offered what I said because you had previously voiced a concern over how you are perceived. I didn't mean to put you on the spot. I think we're pretty much in agreement on all this, but as I said, I didn't make that point somehow. Certainly not complimenting is not an insult, or not commenting either for that matter. I didn't mean to suggest that at all. And of course we can all learn from each other: that's what this forum is all about, right? I can't see tags; I'm viewing mobile, so that has never been an issue for me (though I did suspect you had it!) You're absolutely correct in that last paragraph about scale, cost, greatness etc. I said you probably wouldn't be impressed with my first rate - because while it's big, it isn't "something truly great" as you put it. You've seen it before, and it's nothing extraordinary. Other ship experts probably won't be impressed either, and that's fine. It's mostly an experiment anyway. I don't perceive competition to be "better" than anyone else from you or any other shipbuilders. These conversations would go better face-to-face I think. I apologize if I seemed to be emotionally charged. I actually meant that whole prior response to be complimentary. I have a lot of respect for what you've done.

Another fine vessel Bregir. The shape is nice once more, and I prefer the size, colors, and rigging over the Sphinx (though she was pretty good in her own right). The guns are nice too and match their rated size pretty good I think. I also like the waves of the base for their effective simplicity and the old dolphin is cool. The square mast is unusual - I assume you lacked rounds, and I'm fine with that. Otherwise the rigging is great. What's the beam at the widest point? Good work again. She'll serve Corrington well.

Captain Dee replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Phred used the designation "CNS" for "Corrington Naval Ship" for his Swift. Is that considered standard nomenclature or could I use "HMS" for a warship as well? I prefer the latter by far but I could do CNS if need be. It just sounds messy.- 897 replies

[COR - FB 3] The Government House at Port Raleigh
Captain Dee replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lovely building Ska - and I don't say that lightly. I've never liked Lego red and blue together, but this light blue (whatever it's officially called) looks great with red and white. The tall narrow design gives it a wonderful presence and the different elements like the balcony and red-framed bay windows look great together. The gold-colored path to the front speaks for Corrington's ambitions on the island, eh? You've represented the population well with your selection of minifigs, but I have to ask: is it just me, or is the woman in the purple dress Cher? Good work. I approve. -
Wow. That's a serious turnout for one month. Of course the start always was going to generate lots of interest. There were several builders with 3+ as well. But most of them were posted too late in the month to be included in January's scoring.
