Beautiful tavern and a welcome addition to the Corrington empire. It's a very good take on that type of design, and the different types of building materials go together really well. It's a small establishment but nicely detailed. The weapons wrack, bar area, and elevated doorway look great. I like the dark grey contrast at the street level and of course the roof is fine. Good work.

Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to Darkdragon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Welcome aboard, Gulagurag! (From a Corringtonian... ) So the "Friends"ly Pirates are among us, aye? Sounds interesting! I'm curious to see what you have to share with us. -

Another fine vessel, KB. I've been wondering how long it will take before all the different types are built and this is one step closer. Interesting technique on the hull and good job making a simple type of vessel look really sharp. I guess those sails are a pain, but they look pretty good - better, I believe, than solid-color designs. And it's nice to hear a little historic background which makes the seemingly obsolete design fit in well. Good work and keep it up. But tell me that isn't you in the shako hustling on deck. I approve. -

This is a nice smoth design, but I must admit the towering aftcastle looks out of proportion and out of place on something this size. It's well built and detailed, but it seems to overwhelm the rest of the design and makes it look a bit top-heavy. The rigging utilizes those sails well but somehow seems incomplete... The anchor and hull detailing are neat and I like that collection of minifigs. And the presentation is nice as always. Keep it up. -
This is not your ordinary defense - those soldiers are settling in like they're expecting a war! I like the simple, tidy arrangement and the black attire should prove useful in staying concealed. But yeah, they might want to remove their headgear in favor of something a little more discreet. Good job with the vegetation and nice build overall.

Ah... now yer talkin' my language! Good idea for a change. Looks good so far. Is that a MAXXUM I see behind the glass? Too bad the showroom looks too small for a Magnum or a Quadtrac... have to park them outside I guess. And you might need to swap the Stihl stuff in favor of barrels of DEF. I'll be keeping an eye out for updates (from the seat of my Green Machine... ) Keep it up.

General MOC-Discussion, WIP-Help, and Teaser Thread
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in LEGO Pirates
Hey, I didn't know you were into Lego architecture! Which skyscraper is it? More like what rate is it, and is it based on something real? Be patient and see, huh? The colorscheme looks great so far.- 315 replies

This is definitely an improvement over the original - but I suppose it would cost more too. To me, the ultimate (MOC, MOD or official set) would be Red vs Blue, with all the minifigs fully equipped. Or maybe even throw the Armada in for good measure, or Pirates vs Islanders - lots of options, really. But this is still good, and it's nice to hear you actually use it to play chess (I think I've played, like, 8 games in my lifetime! )

Captain's Corner: Dedicated to the hardworking Pirates Staff

Ah... someone understands the point of this! Thanks. Glad you like it. -
Who doesn't like a scene featuring treasure? This has a nice classic feel to it. The wreckage and plants look good, and the chain hanging down from above is a good feature. I approve.

That's a fine little build with lots of nice minifigs and an appropriate story to match - but the backgrounds of the pictures are a bit off-putting, especially when you can see the prior posted build. A poster board or sheet of paper or even just a cloth sheet in the background would help the presentation a lot. Other than that this is a nice scene.

Neat little build, and interesting glance into the fringes of society. Considering all the aspects of the story, this is the type of setting that Sir Dee would avoid. But it's actually quite realistic for a time when superstitions abounded.- 5 replies

Another beautiful vessel, KB! The colors are a bit dull but the design is lovely, and the story is fine as well. I like the figurehead - a nod to the first bluecoat ship perhaps? I'm particularly impressed with the curvature of the hull and the stern looks nice. Good work. Of course I approve. -
Lucy!! My my my you have a mouth!! But a purple jail cell?! With a disco ball?! That's a new one on me! Actually it looks fine in those colors and matches the mood well. Well built, illustrated and written as usual. And I for one think the Victrola is fine even if it's the "wrong" time period. But no earworm for me... one of the benefits of staying away from pop culture. Keep it up.

Nice house! It looks great, especially in the first pic where the layout is more obvious. The style and colors are lovely and it has your trademark smooth look. The base does seem really bland, but I suppose you were going for the dry sparse look and it works well enough. Good job.

Very good job with the build, plus all the different types of photos. The house is neat - small and cozy perhaps, but still a fine design. The fountain is lovely and the stables look good. The edge of the field looks nice but it seems overwhelmed by the road. There's nothing wrong with the road - it looks smooth and well-built, but it really dominates that particular size build. Actually it's probably about right, and everything else is closer to the standard Lego scale. The blue background makes some of the pics seem a little dreary, especially the ones with lots of visible grey. The through-the-window shot of the stables seems much more airy and inviting in comparison. But it's a fine build nonetheless and the close-up first pic is a neat idea. Good work and nice collection of minifigs. Edit: I approve.

Haha!! Good one. I think it's obvious from the title what's going to happen, and using a historic reference is nice. The build is good, and it's good to see both the CMF Queen and Arwen figures being put to good use. Your esteemed character has my condolences regarding the tight squeeze into that outfit. My first thought upon seeing them walking out was that the guards must have poor eyesight to not notice the facial hair - then I read the description. Typical Oleanders! And the plunging neckline should've made it all the more obvious that the "maid" didn't exactly have "hair in her eye and a gleam on her chest" but what can you excpect from those half-wits! :pir-laugh: Good job with both the build and the story - and your overall posting habits are excellent for a newcomer. Glad you're on my side. -
[COR-FB4] Merryweather Lumberjacks (Port Raleigh)
Captain Dee replied to CelesAurivern's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Good depiction of a vital industry. The felled tree and undergrowth look good. The foreground seems a little bare; I suppose we can assume the workers either cleared it or trampled it down so they could work. But I do think some variation of the terrain would improve the scene. Still, it's a nice layout. I approve. -
What?? I wanted to bold it and it came out blue, that's all. And that is a scientific fact!!

I can envision lots of small forts like this on the frontier of Corrington's new territories, and you've manned it with a good number of soldiers. I like the overall arrangement, but a cannon or two on a big-wheeled land carriage would be nice too. And the overhang above the gate could indeed offer the enemy protection should they ever storm the place. But it's a really nice fort regardless and my favorite of your builds so far. Keep it up.

Captain Dee replied to Kwatchi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice looking sloop. I like the white over black colorscheme even if the black conceals the details. The custom guns look appropriately sized for a vessel this small. Bregir already commented on the rigging; I'll just echo what he said about enlarging the main sail (back of the mast) and doing something with the forward-facing sail which isn't a realistic arrangement. And another jib wouldn't hurt either. All in all she's a good start with a nice hull. -

Captain Dee replied to kabel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lovely bustling vibrant scene. Naturally a cooper would be needed and you've built a good one. The house is beautiful and the workshop looks pretty good too - I just wish we could see what's going on inside! You've made good use of color and the landscaping, while simple, is nice as well. It's well detailed without looking too cluttered. Good work.- 20 replies

[COR - February FB2] Amelia Street Bakery
Captain Dee replied to Mike S's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Beautiful little bakery - and lovely arrangement of all the buildings on the street. Once again you've used simple design characteristics to excellent effect. I like the arches and all the different windows, and the red & white colorscheme really stands out. The interior is fine - love that rolling pin, staircase, and bed - and I'm greatly impressed to see not one but two lovely ladies in period garb. And the soldiers out front are a neat if not somewhat curious feature. Overall this has a very neat, tidy appearance and is shaping up to be a really good settlement. Keep it up. -
[COR - February FB1] Woodworker's Shop
Captain Dee replied to Mike S's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very good workshop. The white-over-yellow colorscheme looks great and I like the contrasting brown windows, although the lattice over the door looks out of place. The interior is nice, and the working area is suitably cluttered, but the loft looks bare in comparison. The chandelier is neat, if not perhaps a bit extravagant for a carpenter. Good work. Is it just me, or do those hand saws not show up very often in historic MOCs? I was like a kid in a candy store when I got mine, and just assumed they'd start showing up in MOCs more often than they do, or so it seems.
