  1. Lovely jungle scene. It looks nice and dense the way a jungle should look. And it's a good way of showing them interacting as well.
  2. Nice layout. The walls look good except where the thickness is obvious, and the pier and crane are fine. It's bustling with activity as it should be.
  3. If you consider the minifig to be an adult body, period, then yes - the standard Lego cannon is a colossus. And yes, one glance at any historic cannon or illustration will quickly show that the bore is comically large in proportion to the outside barrel diameter. The barrel sidewalls were much thicker and heavier in reality. And the barrel had a visibly larger breech diameter, taper toward the muzzle, and muzzle flare. The cascabel was usually shorter and less prominent; Lego made them big so you can fire them, which was always lost on me (I hate those center guides). So the overall proportions besides length aren't quite right. I like the standard cannons only because that's what they are; the design could be vastly improved, but I use them anyway. Land-based looks best to my eyes, but ultimately I think the issue is best left to the individual builder.
  4. You beat me to it, ya scurvy dog! Ok, let's see what you've got: ship in progress, slipway/drydock, crane, piles of lumber and carpenters work area, masts and other components, etc. I believe you've represented shipbuilding pretty well. It all adds up to a bustling scene chock full of details and it looks great. I'm drawn to the stack of lumber under the chains: you halfway attached two plates together throughout the stack, right? I spotted it because it's the exact same technique I used on my similar scene (I haven't taken pics yet...) The shipwright's office looks nice as well. Overall this is a fine arrangement that fits in perfectly with the sail-making build. Good work.
  5. Both the battery and the gunboat turned out well. The wooden-walled battery looks pretty realistic for the setting in question (exploration) and the cannon setup is really good. The castle headgear does seem a little out of place but I can live it. The gunboat looks great in the upside-down pic but the shadows on the stern in the first view make it look like it's riding with a bow-down attitude which threw me off at first glance. The design is really good though, and far more believable than the cannon-in-a-rowboat Harbor Sentry from 1989 or Loot Island from 2009. Good work.
  6. The way they're all crowded around, either something really good or really bad is about to happen. Actually that's not a bad way to illustrate the outcome. It's my understanding that you don't need approvals for the MCRA outcome builds, unless you do more than one, in which case it would be counted along with your other freebuilds.
  7. Nice jungle scene. The overgrown ruins look great and the minifigs look pretty good too. I like the idea that they've just painted themselves red to look sinister. Nexo Knights, eh? Couldn't prove it by me! They stopped walking because they can sense Sinbad's presence... RUN!! Good work.
  8. Good story and some more fine small vessels. Those white hulls and gold trim look great. Keep it up.
  9. Interesting story and I like your transition from wet sand to dry sand to the rest of the landscape. I wonder what happens next...
  10. This is a good way to depict landing and starting a settlement. The varying terrain and edge of the jungle are nice and I like the different blues of the water. Good collection of minifigs too. I approve.
  11. I still haven't warmed totally to the whole viking thing but this is a neat build anyway. The longhouse design is nice although the roof is a bit bland. But those trees are beautiful!
  12. Excellent jungle scene and good job posing all the minifigs, especially the natives hiding in the bushes!
  13. Another good use of forced perspective. The arrangement is nice and is a good depiction of what those first real encounters must have been like - natives peering through the trees, curious and perhaps awestruck as well. The micro ship is lovely, but I agree the lighting is a bit dark. Otherwise nice job.
  14. This is a really nice creative arrangement. You've built it up really well and the terrace farming is a good portrayal of native life. The little details add up to a job well done.
  15. That's a neat build with all the different plants and rock formations. And the minifigs are highly creative as well. Good work.

Interesting story - but I would think the islanders would be surprised at the sight of him to the point of being rather curious, and once angered, possibly hostile to the point of driving him away. The build tells the story well enough without words, but it's pretty small for a contest allowing up to 16x16...
  17. Interesting concept. That's a new design approach, but the wedge plates in the bow seem a bit much to me. The idea of dressing up the small boats is a good one and worthy of more consideration.
  18. Overall this is a nice concept and the micro ship turned out well. But the sand looks a bit odd with all the flat exposed studs. Covering the main expanse of the beach with curved slopes in various positions would be a great way to detail it nicely while keeping it empty and free of clutter.
  19. Interesting challenge entry. The overall compositon looks nice except for the flame pieces hanging over the edge, and the lack of a complete overall view hurts the presentation a little. But the Islander posing is good and it gets the point across very well.
  20. Neat little scene and interesting concept... but I would think the explorers, having the numbers advantage and firearms, would prevail. These amazons must be really good with those spears to turn them back so easily!
  21. Nice interior build. I like the smooth appearance and the clutter is just enough to provide some good details. The story is unique although I don't think I could be quite so tough on my characters. It all makes for a lively little scene.
  22. Interesting story and good job posing the duel scene. The expanded setting looks terrific too. But Bregir raises some good points about using the judges' characters.
  23. Welcome back and aboard, matey!! (Even though I'm from the "wrong" faction, unfortunately. ) I've been thinking about how you threw a monkey wrench into my plans with your sudden departure... Good to see you active again.
  24. KB!! You're back!! Good intro, and welcome aboard, but I'm one of those Corries your mother always warned you about. Digital should be just fine. Glad to see you made it. P.S. There's a little something waiting for you in the MOC forum...
  25. A moldboard plow in minifig scale would be extremely difficult. I've thought about it before and can't come up with a satisfactory design. A disc plow (yes, there is such a thing - and it's not a disc harrow) would be really easy - but it doesn't fit the time period. My advice is simple: build a good plow frame without the moldboard plowshares, and build the accompanying scene to show plowing in action, because the plowshares would be mostly buried and only visible in the back, which would be pretty easy to work around. Once you have a suitable frame you could always experiment with the curved plowshares if you absolutely had to have them. If anyone has a better idea I'd love to hear it.
