That is a seriously amazing model, at first glance it looks like a normal RC scale vehicle, but if you get closer you will realize it is actually made of Lego, that is really cool, the details and the functions are outstanding, about the arches, i think that they wouldn't look bad in black, by the way, what do you think about making this version: https://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/14157264/1024/Nieuwsfoto's-4/Mammoet-Benz.jpg, do you think that it could be made in the same scale?, if it could be possible, i think it would be a cool addition and a very nice looking model to show, the only part that could be a problem to recreate is the grille because of its design, and maybe some other round-shaped parts.

[WIP] Starcraft's Siege Tank
Imanol BB replied to SOL's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That tank looks really promising, it seems to work pretty well, thanks for sharing this cool model and welcome to Eurobricks. -
Hi @MichaelvandenBerg, welcome to Eurobricks, the set is supposed to be moved by hand or only to be a display set like a scale model on any vehicle, the gearbox in the set only is there to spin the engine and somehow to show how works a sequential gearbox in a car, so the gearbox is just like a display function too, however, you could add 1, 2 or possible 3 Power Function motors of different sizes to drive the rear axle and add some IR RC receivers, a servomotor in the front axle and a battery box to convert this set into RC, and if the drive motors are connected where the engine was before (in the same input shaft of the engine), the gearbox will work with these motors, and it would be a fully functional part of the drivetrain.

That is a very functional model, the outriggers system is incredible, that is a nice use of the gear racks and the new worm gear, they seem to be very strong; the same goes to the crane, the gear rack and the new worm gear again, looks they work very well, and the 3 functions through the turntable is very cool too, i don´t like too much to modify Lego parts, but i think it could be accepted in this case because it was really needed, i hope TLG makes new parts to achieve the 3 functions through 1 turntable without needing to modify any parts; this crane really looks promising, i hope to see more updates soon, great work.

Imanol BB replied to vmln8r's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great animation, the LXF file looks good, the design of the car is very clever, is amazing how everything fitted in such small model and works properly, and even the motors have a aesthetic function too, that is really cool. -
[WIP] Unimog U 4023
Imanol BB replied to Victor Imaginator's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have received some fresh information from Benzworld, the round things above the rear bumper are indeed air tanks for the braking system, the box in front of the fuel tank is for the batteries, i think it was a good choice to make an account in Benzworld. -
This tractor looks really nice, a perfect partner for the Xerion, the scrapper is a great and original implement, its really incredible that the Technic figure is actually too big in comparison, that means the tractor must be huge; the model looks very realistic, and the functions are very cool too, nice work on it.

That is a really cool and very unexpensive MOD, and seems you really focused your mind in that because you have given a very deep explanation of the MOD and how to implement them, even when the whole filtering and transporting process might not be 100% effective, it is enough good for it, even real and precise machines can´t make to 100%, i imagine that those MODs have surely improved the model, i wish i could get one i a future and try them, thanks for sharing.

I have some experience making suspended vehicles (despite that not all of them have worked as planned), i think that suspension systems in a model are defined by the type of vehicle of the model and its size and weight, i have made some vehicles similar in size to the Arocs and other in bigger size, and the suspension system and chassis twisting or rigidity would be built depending of the real vehicle characteristics, for example, most of the pickups in the market have almost not chassis twisting, just a couple of degrees, so, if i would make a pickup, i would try to recreate the same characteristics, the chassis would be very rigid, sometimes studded for even less twisting, and the suspension would be the same as the real vehicle; but in the case it was a bigger truck, then it would be different, most of the trucks that i wanted to recreate tend to have some twisting of the chassis because of their size, weight and suspension system, and because of that, i made the trucks with twisting-ability for the chassis in the longitudinal axis, but try to avoid bending when they got load on them, and i have learned to improve most of the mistakes that i would have done in the past, right now i know some ways to make a more rigid chassis, the best placing for the shock absorbers and designs of suspension systems, that is why i think that the suspension design is dependent of the type, weight and size of the model. About the Arocs suspension, the size and type of the vehicle to recreate might not suit well for such small scale if it is intended to keep a suspensions system, because the truck is to heavy, the shock absorbers are to stiff and the chassis is very weak, which results in too much twisting and bending, some improvements could reduce this problem, for example, i would make a different kind of suspension which wouldn't require too much space or even remove it and change it to fixed axles, i would make the chassis more rigid by putting more beams and diagonal reinforcements (like in the 8110), this way the truck would be more robust for its size, but this is just a personal thought, i am sure there will be people which maybe easier and better ideas to improve it.

[WIP] Unimog U 4023
Imanol BB replied to Victor Imaginator's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good to see they are good reference, lunch box?, i think we could expect something like that in a Unimog (After all, functions are the main feature of the Unimog brand). The round things above the rear bumper, those could be air tanks for a braking system or other kind of function judging by this picture taken from the right rear part of the truck (the possible-air-tanks are in the lower left corner): -

Imanol BB replied to Victor Imaginator's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The bumper and the fuel tank look great, everything is coming out nicely, i also saw these pictures of the sides (Of a U5023): In this side we have the fuel tank (already built), and something that seems to be some kind of storage box or toolbox (What do you think it is?): And in the other side we have the Euro VI exhaust system and some kind of... box, maybe: I must say that your model is looking very good and very accurate, i will see if i can find more detailed pictures. -
I hadn't seen this topic, good i finally did, this pickup looks amazing in both version, bu i must admit that the black version looks like a tactical vehicle or something like that, it is really nice, the performance is great as well and they are very detailed, great work.

[WIP] Unimog U 4023
Imanol BB replied to Victor Imaginator's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here is a pic of a U5023 rear part, at least this is for the cab-chassis version, and must be the same for the U4023: I also found this interesting forum from Benzworld of the U5023 with some other helpful pictures: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/unimog/1955729-unimog-u5023.html By the way, the front bumper looks very cool, pretty similar to the real one. -
[MOC] Crane Truck
Imanol BB replied to Lucio Switch's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is a truly amazing and huge model, so many cool functions and details, the suspended cabin and the adjustable seats are a nice touch too, i am pretty impressed of how good and realistic it looks and works, i think that this model could be in the Hall Of Fame soon, nice work Lucio. -
Oh my, good to see you back, and the BWE looks very nice, about your questions: 1): As far as i can remember, it was possible to set the voltage for the output connection to the motor, so it should be possible to set a low speed, and the motor should work if it is not under too much stress. 2): I cant say for sure if there is a limit for the files used in Bluerender (and if there is, which is it), i haven't experienced any problem with Bluerender so far, but i can imagine that my computer would have many problems to run this huge model. So far the model is coming out nicely, the rear conveyor belts are amazing too, i hope to see it built in real life in a future, nice work.

[WIP] Unimog U 4023

It is looking really nice, the anti-roll bars are great details of realism. -
I have a winch which has 3 stages of planetary gears, i have seen the motor spinning very very fast, but because of the insane gear reduction the drum of the winch spins very slowly, that is why winches are so powerful, and this post also made me remember that other great feature of the planetary gears is the ability to change the output direction by braking the sun gear, the planet gears, or the ring gear, which is very helpful for the automatic gearboxes while selecting the speeds and the reverse and still maintaining a low space consumption, and i think that some Unimogs use them to achieve " Super Crawler Speed".

[WIP] Unimog U 4023
Imanol BB replied to Victor Imaginator's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It looks amazing, about the tires, there is actually a wide range of possible tires, all the blueprints of the U4023 are shown with 335/80R20 tires, which are about 41 inches or 104 cm tall and about 340 cm wide, however, this truck is able to use up to 395/85R20 tires, which are 46.8 inches or 119 cm tall and about 40 cm wide, this means that there are many possibilities to use depending of what you want, but for me it looks great with those tires because it will be even more similar to the version of the blueprints, you are able to use the 8110 tires, they would be a very similar version of the real life 445/65R22,5 Michelin XZL Wide Base which is inside the range of possible tires, but the truck looks good with the tires you have put, it is getting better and better with the time. (Oh my, this is my post number 666 ) -
I have done that too, i actually made a planetary version of the portal hubs of the 8110 Unimog which were inspired by Efferman planetary axles, here is a comparison of the standard portal hub part with 3:1 reduction and my own version, which has a reduction of 12:1, both portal hubs have the same distance to the pivot point and have very similar dimensions, the advantage of using the planetary version is the increased torque (By 4 times) and decreased damage to the gears and axles in the hubs, the torque is divided in 4 gears and pins instead of 1 gear and axle, this is a very old MOD that i did, and there are some modern versions of it which have some nice features, but this one is a good example too: This is how both standard portal hub and the planetary version look compared: And these are the guts of the planetary part: And the LXF in case anyone wants more details: http://bricksafe.com/files/imanol/other-models/Planetary Axle Comparison.lxf

[WIP] Unimog U 4023
Imanol BB replied to Victor Imaginator's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is really cool, i was waiting for someone to make the newer version of the UHN Unimog, the progress looks good so far, the engine place looks accurate in the picture of above, the axles look good too with the ball joints, resembling the torque tubes of the real Mog, the steering is just how it is in real life, i think that you are making a great work on it, i am very interested in how will look the body -
A feature that i think it is important of the planetary gears in vehicles is that you can put them very close to the wheels and they wont affect the position of the wheel compared to the axle, and so, the whole transmission from the engine to the planetary gears doesn't need to be too big or robust like it would if it was directly connected, this is why most of the trucks which use these planetary gears in the axles tend to have big tires and a very good ground clearance, for example, M.A.N KAT, MB Zetros and some Tatras, these planetary gears can multiply the torque many times and they need a considerable small space to place them; as well, the planetary gears are used in some other kind of machinery, gearboxes, electric motors (like the Lego ones), and many other things.
