LEGO - Tank climber test
Jay Psi replied to oracid's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That video has the perfect mix of useful information and (extremely) laconic charm and humour! Thanks for making the video and for the tips within it. -
There have been multiple sets released for Creator anniversaries, most notably their 50th (stylised to resemble sets from the 50s) and some other non-Lego items. Off the top of my head there have also been anniversary sets for Duplo and Star Wars - there was also a group of sets released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the films but that's not what we're talking about. Edit - Beaten to it by allanp! I guess great minds must think alike

The best compliment I can pay is that I thought this was Jurgen's latest "Ultimate" MOD, until I read the first IMHO Thanks for showcasing the best of this set, and for an excellent documentation. I've got no excuses to get the set of storage now!

WeDo 2.0 - The future of PF

It looks like TLG did take a look at SBrick after all. At that price I'd be tempted to pick a pack up at launch. -
Opinion on Status of SBrick
Jay Psi replied to knotian's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
And herein lies the problem, there seems to be no middle ground with the user experience of SBrick on Android - it's either flawless or broken. Mine's been exchanged and still doesn't sync with the app properly, while the SBrick I gave to my brother has had zero issues in nine months of use. The kicker? We're using exactly the same phone! -
Need Help Building 4x4
Jay Psi replied to ez3141's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes they do - I've seen almost the whole PF range at various Lego stores. IIRC I can't remember seeing a rechargeable battery box or L-motor on the shelves, but it has been a while since I've been to a store. I should pay one a visit soon... -
While the file may have been fixed, the link is now broken! If you're reading this Thorsten, you need to update your Bricksafe links on your website and Rebrickable. Meanwhile, here's the fixed link for the fixed instructions.

Ultimately it's entirely up to you, as long as all the parts for the B-model came from the A-model it's in the contest. If you need some guidance, you could look at well-received official B-models or C/D-model MOCs from AFOLs and see how they balanced using as many parts as possible against keeping the B-model "uncluttered". I suspect this question will play a part in how each entry is received and how many points they receive, so the only other thing I could suggest is to post a WIP topic (when you can) and see what the judges think

As a fellow Power Puller hogger (14 and counting - I like how they look, what can I say?), I'd say keep at least the ones you are using, because then you wouldn't have more than me... In all seriousness though if they don't do it for you then you can get away with halving the number at least - 14 is still enough for 2-3 models on the go. It's a lot of money to spend on whatever you choose and more than double what you paid for them.

Technic Pub

Merry Christmas to everyone east of the Coral Sea Islands! Let's get some chronological accuracy in here... Everyone else can wait for their Season's Greetings as the day draws near. Watch your step when you make a bleary-eyed trip to the tree tomorrow morning -
With piece-by-piece instructions I'm not surprised, the same thing happened to me as well. I do think some of the magic has been lost in this process (instructions in the studfull days really gave me a sense of achievement as I could see the build coming along in relatively large chunks) but I suppose TLG will counter with figures/studies showing that the modern instructions are more accessible. As for the original question, errr, not really. I did speed-build 8110 but it actually wasn't a satisfying experience so for every built set since I've taken my time. I am more assured (?) though; I used to check back 2/3 pages to make sure I had not made a mistake every few minutes but I can't remember doing this for any set/MOC recently.

I think I'll leave my table as it is, regardless of how disappointed I might be with the possibility of the Volvo being a mid-range set. (ヘ・_・)ヘ┳━┳ Recent years have seen 2H consist of a "proper" flagship and a set comparable to the 1H flagship in size and parts count. This Ultimate IP Car does complicate things, but even then not every set in a release can be large-scale with 1000+ pieces.

[REVIEW] 42050 - Drag Racer
Jay Psi replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
In that case it will be down to €40-45 in a few months (at least on Amazon.de), which seems like a good enough price for me. -
If I was building something for off-road use then the drivetrain and steering would be pretty high up my list of priorities - not much point in having a great chassis that goes nowhere. On that basis I would prefer the tall version, even though the bending of the 16L links could be problematic depending on how much they bend. Again, to me the addition if extra features would only be a benefit if I was satisfied with the performance of the "barebones" chassis in the first place. I (think I?) have some experience of this type of sagging from modding my 41999 (PP, 2 x XL) - in my case it wasn't a big deal in practise but the body of your MOC will be a lot heavier by the sounds of things. Do you have any idea of how heavy the body will be at this stage? I assume it is guaranteed to be hundreds of grams, but would it get close to/beyond 500g?

42043 for £47.99? Surely not!
Jay Psi replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Paul's beaten me to it; it's definitely a scam and not a particularly subtle one (as this person selling nothing for three years prior to this can attest to). I hope everyone who bought into it can do without the £47.99 in their pockets. The more people know about this the better though, so you've done your good deed for the day allanp :) -
People desiring the unobtainable is nothing new, welcome to human nature! It still counts even if some people only wanted it for the opportunity to rubbish it "in the plastic," so to speak I doubt I would have bought it anyway for what it's worth. Could parts supply be a possible reason for the fire truck being pulled?

Probably an oversight. I don't think regular members can edit tags themselves but a quick message to a mod/admin should do the trick.

Manias in building?
Jay Psi replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You can add my name to the "aligns bushes (and slits) as per instructions" list. In our defence you're supposed to follow the instructions to the letter, no deviation is allowed here... -
About the Unimog - you might need to mod the steering straight out of the box, it really isn't up to the same standard as the rest of the model (for comparison the Arocs steering isn't a masterpiece, but I think it's better and quite clever given the lack of space). However with the Unimog being so easy to mod, you can take your pick from a quick fix like removing the stoppers to redesigning the whole front axle depending on time/parts availability. A quick Google will show you what other owners have done. Speaking of availability, generally I've been better served buying older (i.e. out of print) sets first while looking out for a good price for a set still in production. The price of 8110 hasn't moved much from what I can see, and I think there will still be some room for the price of the Arocs to drop so if I were you I would get 8110 now and leave 42043 for later. Of course, this all depends on where you are and if you can buy sets locally or have to get them shipped to you from elsewhere.

If you think that's bad, take a few minutes to find one of those "Sweet 16th Gone Wrong" videos and despair at the fate of the human race. I remember watching one where the birthday girl demanded her $50k Lexus be returned because it was given to her at the wrong time in her birthday itinerary, because her parents wanted it to be a surprise. Unfortunately there are a lot of entitled people around and there's not much you can do but ignore them or, on occasion, turn them into sources of low-brow amusement. I've had to deal with this in a similar manner to Geekphysique, but for me, it is actually my job so I've had people haranguing me, harassing me, and (in one instance) assaulting me into accepting more work because WE WILL PAY YOU AND OUR MONEY BUYS YOUR CONSENT*. Sariel, they're your bricks. You bought them, you build with them and should you ever part with them, assembled or in pieces, it will be because you want to do so. *Actual quote, from the aforementioned incident

[REVIEW] 42044 - Display Team Jet
Jay Psi replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice review, even with the missing demonstration video of the A-model! Looks like this is an excellent panel pack for the price, and those soft axles will go down a treat. Will this set be the dark horse of 1H 2016...?
