The V2 receiver was created because running two L-motors on the same V1 receiver would draw more current than it could handle (~1A). For most uses the V1 is fine, and probably a bit cheaper to produce given it uses a more capable motor driver. As always, Philo is the go-to for all the technical comparisons and details.

I was going to say the Vulcan, but I think @VKTechnic has got it with the Vantage GT3 (or possibly GTE). Either way, it looks really good so far, you manage to squeeze more and more into your chassis with each new car.

I don't want to go too far down the SBrick/BuWizz rabbit hole here, but given issues the former had with its apps, particularly on Android, at launch I can understand why the BuWizz app would be released with a focus on performance/reliability rather than customization. It seems to be the right choice so far, with the majority of public comments on functionality being positive. I think we're all eagerly awaiting the next step for the app to unleash the "true" potential of these bricks.

Milan as Technic Moderator
Jay Psi replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Okay, I'll confess first - with all the work he does for the forum, I thought Milan was a moderator already. Given that he is one now, congratulations on a well-deserved "promotion" As for Jim, ye took yer sweet time with this one, ye standarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrds be slippin' (I hope Milan likes pirate talk...) -
Favorite Technic Part
Jay Psi replied to Aventador2004's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Differential aside, gears don't offer much versatility. They are obviously vital in Technic, but apart from going round in circles or being used decoratively there isn't much else to them. It's hard to argue with the sheer utility of the pinhole with pin, but personally I'd go for the dog-bone frame. It's a useful frame piece with a surprisingly compact footprint. -
This is too cute for words, even if it didn't have all the functionality you managed to squeeze into it. The fact that you've almost totally replicated the functions of the original on such a small scale is brilliant.

I must say, the unbroken roof line on the Mercedes is stunning; even better than the BMW (which I didn't think was possible at the time). I've not got much else to say - it's already been said by many - so hopefully I'll get the chance to build this soon...

Thanks for the detailed and comprehensive report. It looks like the only way this visit could be improved is if you had the opportunity to meet Norbert Singer himself!

I would think so. While I'm not @Jim (more's the pity...), I have taken part in "theorycrafting" discussions before (e.g. sports drafts, character showdowns) and even with every effort to make the rules clear and keep on top of the more fervent opinions it can still get out of hand, forcing a line to be drawn which inevitably leads to animosity for somebody involved. Add in the raising of the stakes that the prizes introduce and the fact that this hasn't been done before and it's easy to see how it can get out of hand even with the best of intentions. Now the looks of the battle bots are also a subjective point that could be debated endlessly, but when everyone can see the bots it's easier to form an opinion and - crucially - to see where another person's opposing opinion might have come from.

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Jay Psi replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for bringing that to my attention, the joint effort between the Technic/BMW designers went much deeper than I expected, particularly with both teams working on the B-model's design. I know the sample size is small, but it does seem that Technic collaborations are less marketing driven* than other Lego tie-ins (42030 also comes to mind). Could this be a reason why licensed Technic sets don't have an especially noticeable markup? *That's less, not not. The sales are still the bottom line, of course. -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Jay Psi replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Those are suggested prices (SRP), right? I think they'll be reduced when the sets are released. For instance, I certainly don't expect 42069 £140+ to cost (for reference, 42054's UK MSRP was £120 - and it was quickly available for sub-£100). -
And so, the upward trend of @Lox Lego and @DugaldIC's creativity and ingenuity continues. I'm a fan of the liftarm-through-flex-axles technique for fenders, but in this case their use at front seems to compromise the front bumper. Looking at it from on top is fine, but when you see it from a flatter angle the protruding #13-14 and #21-22 panels stand out. I think it would look better if the panel assemblies were moved back and in one stud (so the curved top edge of #13-14 panels were directly underneath the headlights), but that would by a total redesign of the front end, which otherwise looks great. There are no such issues with the back however - that's the most beautiful rear end I've seen since I met my wife...

I seem to recall a Pipasseyoyo crane truck with a similar switching gearbox - all the drive functions were on one toggle and the crane functions were on the other toggle, albeit in Pip's MOC there was a 4th (?) motor just to switch the 'box. If 42070 can replicate that gearbox in some way then I will also be eagerly looking towards its release. Edit - Here it is. -
There's a little bit of tarring with the same brush going on here. I can't speak for any other sub-forum or Lego line, but for Technic I think there is an appreciable distinction between 3rd party pieces that aim to do things that current pieces either cannot do or struggle significantly (e.g. SBrick/BuWizz, Efferman's printed parts) and knockoff sets that are primarily made to cash in on whatever Lego has already done. As for the white Scorpion, it looks really nice. It's never going to be something I try unless Lego make those panels in white, but I have no issue with it being shown here and I won't criticize anyone who decides to try it themselves. Your money, your rules.

General Part Discussion
Jay Psi replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Has the supply actually increased? I'm thinking that with the introduction of the (longer) V2 cylinders, the need to use brackets to double up the V1 cylinders has diminished.- 5,466 replies

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Jay Psi replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'd be surprised if the new "proper" Technic supercar launches before the Porsche goes EOL. It's still selling like hotcakes, why potentially split the buyers into choosing one or the other when you can spread them out a bit more and tempt them into buying both? -
$200 seems a bit steep for an 8461 with damaged stickers. For reference I bought a stickerless 8461 for £100 (~$150 at the time), only to find an unused mint condition sticker sheet in the instructions. If the pieces were in mint condition then I might still plump for it, but get a good look at the suspension to make sure the pieces aren't broken. I've had them break in my 8674 so it does happen.

Technic Pub
Jay Psi replied to jantjeuh's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Jim Maybe a trans-red, dark red or reddish brown will work better than the regular red? I agree that red looks a bit garish, but I also think that white doesn't stand out enough on the light background. Black could be another option, but the icon size could hide the pin hole. What about blue or dark blue, to match the colour of the schematic used in the Technic forum's banner? -
You still need to keep fit, even if you are from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ... An awful lot of work must have gone into getting everything working smoothly with such little room available. The exercise machine in particular is packed. However, I am quite worried about the influence Vader already has on you @MajklSpajkl - I doubt you would ever dream of cutting pieces if you were building a Jedi exercise machine

Wrong color on set 42000?
Jay Psi replied to Kim72's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yellow parts are notorious for colour variation, more of my pistons (in sets from the last 3 years) are an "eggy" yellow so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. I would be concerned that yellow parts vary so wildly, but that's another thread... IIRC, 42000 is a 2013 set? Recent (2015-*) instructions have made black and dark blue grey much more discernible, but 42000 came along too early for that change.
