  1. I got mine for £88 (including £8 P&P) and I thought that was a good deal at the time ... I hope you get time to build this grum, it's a beauty.
  2. It does have more sets than previous years, but it's not by a huge amount compared to 2013-14. Two of those sets will be pull-backs, 42046/47 probably, and since they've been introduced to Technic there have always been 10+ sets released in a year. If I remember correctly the Volvo & Mercedes licences didn't cost Lego anything (or at least the L350F didn't because that started with a Technic designer getting together with a friend who worked at Volvo?) so if that's the case then Claas would be ideal for the next licence. I'm thinking that the heavy lift helicopter will be the 1H flagship because I don't see more than 4 sets being released in 2H 2016, but with so many sets I could easily be wrong. What surprises me slightly is that for its set number, the EW160E will probably not be a "big" set (1000+ pieces) but surely it will feature pneumatics ... it's about time we got pneumatics in a midsize set (42008 doesn't count! )
  3. That's two more licenses than I expected (but if it doesn't cost anything for Lego to get them then it makes sense), and I would also assume it's the list for the whole year at 13 sets. But I like what I see - especially the Class Xerion. Going off the numbers I'd expect the "Ultimate IP Car" to be the 2H flagship. Shame I have no idea what it could be then isn't it!
  4. Here's the embedding for you, you just need to use a "regular" HTTP link rather than the HTTPS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aCKHhWwdwA As for the buggy, it's great. Extra thanks come from me for the pictures of the isolated rear (powered) axle, that's a very elegant design.
  5. I can only really echo what has already been said; if you need the cash quickly and with relatively little fuss - I know how stressful moving can be - then selling complete sets and MOCs would be the best way to go, leaving any spare/"common" parts to be sold in bundles or lots. There is also the question of whether you are willing to sell at a discount to get things shifted quicker. This might be something to think about for the rare parts instead of (for instance) using the BL average and waiting a few weeks for a sale. If I may say so you're lucky to be Dutch because in my experience there is a very good market in Holland for Lego, including Technic, which you will of course know more about than I do. I am interested in much, much more than my wallet could handle (a sign of a superbly curated collection ) so I'll have to take a good look at the BSX file before I commit to anything. From the initial list though, I'd be interested in any of 8043, 8475, 42038, the air tank, the electric parts and rare wheels. I'll also add myself to the list of people who would like to know how P&P would be handled for international buyers. I'll miss your very speedy Rebrickable updates, but I hope the move goes well and that your new hobby gives you as much pleasure as Lego did. May I ask what this new expensive hobby is?
  6. That's definitely not normal, especially if it struggles to move with no load. It could be a loose connection or a kinked hose. Double check everything is fitting properly and that not tubes are loose and/or cramped up next to another piece.
  7. I'm not sure if it truly counts as difficult, but for those of us who have trouble differentiating DBG from black in the instructions can waste hours pulling models apart to replace one piece. I must have lost at least 15 hours (in ~10 incidents over various models) to this...
  8. Yeah, it was your post I was thinking of when I asked the question. Thanks for replying and for showing me the picture. I don't have any spare pneumatic hoses at the moment but I'll be racking up a Bricklink order soon so I'll add some blue hose to that to cover what I will cut, just in case. Watching builds it just struck me that things were exceedingly tight in the space, so rather than spend hours making it fit I'll cut the hoses and get a couple of extra hours to play with the model
  9. I think they're also referred to as chocks, as in the phrase "Chocks away!" when a aeroplane is ready for take-off. They won't do much here, but their inclusion (as they do feature on the real truck) goes to show the detail that has been put into the set. It's going to be painful waiting for this set to drop in price Has anybody built the crane arm with the tubes untouched and after cutting them shorter so they don't catch the gears, and if anybody has is there any noticeable difference in the operation of the pneumatics? I'm probably going to cut the tubes to make things fit easier if there is little/no difference.
  10. This is amazing, and I am amazed. I've been following this (like everyone else) with great interest. To say you have come up with some creative solutions to building dilemmas would be an understatement! Most importantly of all I hope you and your grandchildren get a lot of time to play with the U42009S. I think you've earned it...
  11. Tesco are doing a Clubcard Boost across the entire Tesco Direct range this weekend, which includes Lego. It should be a 2x boost for toys, so 1500 points would result in £75 worth of vouchers, There definitely was a 1500 points offer on Lego last weekend though, I even checked with customer service. Not that it mattered; I decided not to buy any sets because regardless of the points on offer I didn't want any of them. Actually the offer you had would have been better for me because I would have just bought the Pick Up Truck without having to tack on a couple of smaller sets and that would still be a considerable saving on the Arocs which should drop this weekend.
  12. There's only one example that I can think of, but it's a great example from a fellow Eurobricks member! Here's the video, courtesy of the creator Kelkeschiz. Hopefully he'll see this topic and answer any questions you may have: I don't think Lego would release a motorized sailboat (for obvious reasons), but hopefully with the assortment of hulls a Technic boat isn't too far away.
  13. I had a feeling you would say that However I agree, these parts are more than just outriggers. Even in the Arocs they are also used as the telescopic part of the crane arm. I think the point of the housing and gear rack combination is to provide a sturdy mechanism for a sliding motion, one that is more rigid (and can therefore handle bigger loads) than making an equivalent mechanism out of multiple panels/liftarms.
  14. For anyone trying to nab the bigger sets in this deal - specifically the 42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs - there are very few sets to go around. In my nearest 10 stores (Greater Manchester) only 6 were in stock. Do we know if this offer will allow duplicate purchases? I remember this wasn't allowed last year.
  15. Well here's a nice dilemma to have ... Tesco are running a Clubcard points deal this weekend which requires £75 of Lego purchases to qualify. The problem? The only set I want (42038) isn't available, I have the flagships they are selling* and what's left isn't of much interest. So what sets should I look at for a total of £75-80 from the following: 42029 - £58.65 42024 - £49.48 42023 - £45.94 42037 - £34.48 42038 - £33.50 42022 - £25.28 42036 - £24.64 42035 - £22.97 42034 - £14.09 42036 - £13.74 42032 - £13.65 42027 - £13.54 42021 - £11.67 42031 - £7.97 42020 - £7.34 *If you haven't bought any recent flagships yet (42009, 42030, 42039) then this would be a good time to get them and then potentially save £75 on the Arocs. The 24 Hour Race Car is very conveniently priced at £77.61 perhaps just for this purpose. They've sold out of 42008 though (only available through resellers), so you can't use that set to get the extra points.
  16. They are, and from experience I wouldn't trust them with a substantial purchase either. I still shop there for BDs and games but otherwise I'd give those stores a wide berth. It does more or les confirm the expected UK RRP of £170 though. Too much for me, I'll have to wait a while before I get my hands on this one.
  17. That's a very well built trailer, you've got the extend-and-retract section nailed. The rest of the MOC is extremely nice too, of course! The cabin does look a little bit too boxy for a Foden, I was expecting the windscreen to be a stud behind the front grille at the bottom as well as two studs behind at the top, or is that just a design quirk of the older Fodens? As for embedding youtube links, you just need to inset the link into the formatting with the http protocol - the link you have given won't embed because you have used the https protocol. Remove the s and watch what happens : [media]
  18. At that price you could count me in for a hat Paul. I assume shipping will be a little cheaper to the UK (than to Oz) but even if it wasn't I'd put up the money for one.
  19. Without sounding too rude, are you sure the 42030 SBrick Version. the button for the trans-orange lights (styled like a hazard warning) is pressed on and off repeatedly to create the blinking effect. But I've not tried this profile so I might be talking out of an orifice It's worth remembering that the profile designer is still in beta so perhaps the issue is related to that as well.
  20. Well that's the "Best MOC I'll See" award wrapped up for July... The only thing I would dare criticise is that the front grille looks a little off with the 1x3 thin liftarms doubled up on both sides, but if you tried it with 1 liftarm each side and rejected it for some reason then you can ignore me! As for your question, if your next model was a "regular" supercar then I would feel that something was missing without the brakes and sequential gearbox. However for the i8 it's more noteworthy to mimic the hybrid drive of the road car because it's unique to the i8 in a mass-produced car (I think? I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong). If you are going to continue MOC-ing unusual cars with unique or seldom seen features then I wouldn't mind not seeing the brakes or gearbox again.
  21. It also gives more space to house the (usually) massive engine in its ideal position, as close and as low down in the middle of the chassis as possible. This means a lower centre of gravity, less load transfer, better weight distribution, etc. which matter when your car is meant to be built for ultimate performance. Even in most grand tourers (unless they are boat-like in length), the rear seats aren't much good if you are over 5 and still have legs.
  22. You can hide the red 2-axles in the model, so unless you're very particular about not wanting any red peeking out from beneath the connectors then you don't need to replace those. Apart from that almost all the red parts are liftarms as Jim has said. I changed everything I could to black myself, including the 2-axles! But my 41999's bottom half still isn't fully black because the frames are only available in LBG. Still looks good to me though.
  23. Honestly, other forums I frequent that have a "like" feature still suffer from a poor signal:noise ratio. What happens in my experience is that you get a similar amount of short "I agree" posts, but a lot of lurkers or casual browsers who wouldn't have posted anyway will give likes instead. So it's good for getting some form of extra participation, but I don't think it will cut the number of agreement posts significantly if at all. While I'm not particularly annoyed by the litany of superfluous threads and posts (Eurobricks is the least popular forum I use, I guess I'm just used to quantity) I would support any measures that arise from this discussion. Even to me it seems a bit weird on a Lego forum to not have anything to show for all the words in your post.
  24. No (lack of) love for 42039? I get that it's supposed to be a mix of modern LMPs, which themselves are not known for being pillars of aesthetic design, but even by those standards 42039 is ugly (it is a very odd mix of Toyota TS030/40 at the front and older closed-top LMPs such as the Bentley EXP Speed 8 at the back), which makes it my contender for the least attractive set! Let's not forget that the set could have been much better looking as well ...
  25. Too Long; Didn't Read. Usually used when a post is very long or never gets to making a point. In the context of a Lego discussion where a lot of the intricacies of building are best communicated with images (pictures, diagrams, etc.), your OP might be considered too long/too full of text. So yes, the picture you posted has helped me at least. I think the way you've planned it is good though, with a post for each separate topic.
