Previously... After much convincing, Ygnvi has persuaded Irissa that they would be better combining efforts in the search for their kin. Irissa journeys back into Ambarvale with Yngvi and Erik to Yngvi's parents house, where the pair are currently staying. Yngvi's father Arne is the town's master wainwright, although nowadays his apprentices do most of the work under his watchful supervision. Yngvi and Irissa finalise the supplies required for the journey to the nearest major port, Thorshaven. From here they plan to seek passage to Kaliphlin via ship. The first leg of the journey to Thorshaven is not without challenges. With winter rapidly approaching (the first snows have began in the mountains above the town), conditions will not be pleasant. Yngvi's parents beg him to leave Erik in their care. Which makes perfect sense... however; having being seperated for so long, Yngvi is loath to leave Erik again and Erik does not want to be separated from his father. It is a difficult decision, but in the end Ygnvi decides he will take Erik... or as he puts it to Irissa... "we will live and die together" ___________________ So the bottom stone section of this build started of as Irissa's cyclops hut before I decided to go with a round design. Then when I re-approached this WIP, it just kind of kept expanding into the wainwright's house you see here. This is my first build in a while that is one sided. The rear of this build has no detail and is plain bricks (not so with the watermill...) I guess I just got tired (read: lazy ) of putting all that effort into parts of the build that I wasn't photographing! In retrospect I feel I probably should have added a tree as when I did a colonial version for BoBS I feel the couple of palm trees in that version added quite a lot. Anyway, I had this week off work after some minor surgery, hence the massive output... next week will be back to work and back to normal pace!

As the city of Jameston continues to grow, the demand for skilled artisans also continues to grow. The increase in roads and paths in and around the settlement have meant that more and more horse drawn carts and wagons are appearing. A master Wainwright has set up business to construct and repair these carts and wagons. I 'colonial-ised/Jameston-ised' a version of a wainwright I built for GoH for BoBS. Now I think I may like this version better... but am not sure! Here's the link to the medieval version; To be licensed as an artisan in Jameston.

[WTCM] WTC Monthly - Issue 12, November 618

I don't think we've had a duel since early 2016 when the game first started, this could get interesting! -
The split scene is a good idea here to tell the story and makes for some great all-Lego scenes. The garden scene is my favourite with great use of colour and vegetation and the many little details you've managed to squeeze into such a small scene. I look forward to seeing some more!

Kaliphlin at Work - Day 16: Wahall's Goat Farm
Ayrlego replied to LittleJohn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Beautiful work and possibly one of my favourite Kaliphlin at work scenes so far (although there are so many great builds - you Kali's have really pulled together for this project!). The white section on the upper level is a great contrast to the tans in the rest of the building and the round plate/brick combos in the door frame are a fantastic detail. The MDF and dark orange ground work looks great and of course goats are always the coolest! Great work! -
Thanks deraven! Thank you Colin. Sir Alan certainly could press Yngvi, but I'm trying to make him a good overlord (unusual I know!). I'm going to try and concentrate on the story a bit more from now on so hopefully it will make more sense. Thank you! I didn't consider reversing the waterwheel, but it's a good idea. I am planning on using the wheel part again so I'll probably attempt reversing it. Thanks for the idea. Thanks guys! Thanks, I did experiment a bit with adding some dark orange and dark red to the landscape - but it didn't look quite right somehow so I decided to play it safe. Some more sloping would have also been great - thanks for the suggestion! Thanks Drunknok, I have plans for a waterwheel for BoBS, although it will be a completely new build borrowing only the wheel (with some modifications from feedback here). As it is this build probably best suits Hojaroja, Otoño - but who wants to give the greenies more builds (although that settlement desperately needs some love...) Thank you! Thanks Henjin, as I replied to W Navarre, I do really like the idea of reversing the waterwheel orientation. The use of 1x1 round plates with hollow studs is a great idea that I think would work well. Thanks for the detailed suggestion and I'll probably give it a try. Thanks pombe, although I do think you're pretty good yourself! I used to really enjoy your BoBS builds and stories! Thanks Josh, now you mention it, the miller certainly does look a lot like your sigfig! I only recently aquired the aquaman figure from BL and thought how good that hair would look in a medieval setting - seems we thought the same thing! Thank you Isaac - coming from you that is high praise indeed! The wall portion under the largest roofline is indeed half a stud offset. It just looked too flat otherwise. I would have avoided the jumper plates as well, I had planned on using tiles. However, the roof took up my entire collection of dark tan 1x2 tiles! En-masse I think they look ok, but I probably wouldn't have used them if I had the tiles! Thanks! I had thought my next build may feature some snow (finally), but it turned out to still be autumn! Oh well, maybe the next one! Thank you Grover! Hi Kristinn, as Henjin replied, the torso and skirt are from the Professor Trelawney Harry Potter CMF.

Two cyclopes have left their tribe and constructed a modest dwelling in on the outskirts of a town in southern Mitgardia.
-
Shortly before the last troubles befell Mitgardia, a family of cyclopes settled on the outskirts of Ambarvale. Not much is known about them, they were rumoured to have fled their tribe in Nocturnus and were viewed mostly with a somewhat xenophobic suspicion by the human inhabitants of the town. The pair of cyclopes shunned the town itself and constructed a round hut in the woods to the south of the village. Shortly after arriving, they had a child. They kept mostly to themselves, only occasionally venturing into town for supplies they could not hunt or gather themselves. During the last great raid and sack of the town, the female cyclops was out hunting. Despite putting up a ferocious fight, her mate and child were taken by the raiders as slaves, along with many human villagers. Now it is rumoured amongst the townsmen that the remaining cyclops has news of her missing family and is preparing to seek them out. Irissa was taking stock of her supplies when the crunching of leaves betrayed someone approaching the hut. Without displaying any alarm, she quietly picked up one of her swords and shifted her gaze to watch the two humans approach. A man and a youngling. The man appeared to be a warrior, although his sword was slung over his back and his arms were displayed in front of him palms outward - experienced then. He was displaying that he was aware he was being watched and that he meant no harm. Cyclopes are much stronger and tougher than humans and she thought the human wise to be weary of her. "Come no closer two-eyes" she called, still without moving. "I mean no disrespect, I come only to talk" replied the man. The dialogue continued and gradually, Irissa's suspicious and hostile nature towards most humans was replaced by curiosity. The man's name was Yngvi and the human youngling was his son, Erik. Like her, he had lost family to the bandits who raided the town the previous summer and he seemed to want to know if she knew where they had been taken. Word must have gotten around the humans - a few weeks ago, a travelling cyclops had brought news. Rumours of northmen including a male and youngling cyclops brought through a market city in Kaliphlin. She had to make several runs into the town for supplies in preparation for her trip south. Against her somewhat better judgement, she passed this information to the human then immediately dismissed his determined pitch to join her on the journey. After much back and forth, she admitted to herself that despite their puny physique, human companions may be useful - humans were much more likely to help other humans. While no agreement is reached, she is considering it. _____________ I wanted to do something a bit different and I've never really explored the non-human fantasy races before. Also I wanted to actually write some story rather than my usual focus on the build. Anyway, so I started making a square hut for the cyclops CMF, but decided as a cyclops, only a round hut would do! Inspiration mostly came from this example. As a smaller scene I wanted to try a new colour palate with the landscape, so I settled on a modified version of this excellent build by @Blufiji. I substituted the light yellow for tan, which I think works well. I also definitely need some more medium dark flesh plates (I only recently discovered they now come in 1x2 plates - I swear they never used to...) I currently only have 36 - most of the MDF you see is either 1x2 bricks or 1x2/1x4 modified bricks with masonry profile! I'm pretty pleased with the result - although don't look too hard at the roof or it will fall down - it is quite fragile! Also I'll use this as my first Dwellings of Mitgardia community build. Enjoy! A very refreshing change to the usual minifig scale MOCs! Not much to say that hasn't already been said, but I do want to mention that the shaping of the artist is simply amazing. The tools and loose plates/bricks on the ground are great touches. Fantastic work!
-
I do love a good middle-eastern themed market place scene and this no exception! I like all the bustling activity and the range of different minifigs on display. The use of the combination of round bricks and plates on the white building is very clever and I'll probably borrow it one of these days! Great work!

Laesonar's Saga Ep. 8 - Laelariel City Hall
Ayrlego replied to en_zoo's topic in Guilds of Historica
A fantastic MOC! The use of the blues is of course a stand out feature (although I'm still not sure if I think the use of the blue in the stone work is genius or madness...!) however, there is so much more to like. The architecture is superb and I think you've managed to get a good balance between texture and smoothness with the walls. The tudor sections are very well done and the way you have tiled the roofs is great (although again I'm not sure about the blue - but that's probably a personal thing). The landscape is brilliant, it is so hard to get good depth in the landscaping yet you've definitely achieved it here; especially in the path leading up to the doorway. Unlike some of the others, I actually quite like the use of the regular tan in the landscaping. I think dark tan in these areas would have been too much and would not have provided enough contrast. Any other greens I think would have clashed with the rest of the scheme. While the tan may be a little on the bright side, in my opinion it works here! Great job! -
I've admired this scene on Flickr since you first posted it. The closely packed houses make for a convincing city scene and the differing colours of the wooden sections give great variation while still being similar enough to blend in together. The slope is also a nice touch. I especially like the use of the classic printed breastplate on Lord Karsten, that is a great combo. The only slight concern I have is that the cart seems a little overwhelmed by the excellent backdrop. Great job as usual!

My latest WIP, something a bit different from usual, a Cyclops hut. Not sure how I'm going to finish the rounded roof, and I really need to get some more MDF if I'm going to use this colour scheme again (which I'm pretty sure I will!). Need to finish the roof, landscaping and also add some trees and other details. -
[WTC FB] Praise be for food and beer!
Ayrlego replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great concept of two matching status in the two settlement and the statues themselves are very nicely done. I especially like the way you've mounted the shield to the column. I think he's probably having nightmares of the WTC turning up en masse in Weelond! -
While the historical purist in me baulks at this (mainly the digital cash register!!! ), it is a fantastic build! The use of the new(ish) rounded tiles to make the font for the sign is great - I haven't seen that before. The shelving also looks good and that is an impressive collection of hats. Minifig posing is also perfect. Great job!

Awesome temple Pombe, especially the dome which is stunning! The interior shots are great and I especially like the mosaic with the olive green and black cheese slopes. Great job!

I really enjoy your Mesozoic builds. The colour palate you have used is great and I really like the awning over the building on the left. Also dinosaurs make everything cooler! I'm pretty sure one day I would like to build in Mesozoic!

It is a great build with lots of detail but I think it is the lighting that really steals the show here! The way it streams in the windows and highlights the roof beams is simply phenomenal. Such a fitting setting for your druids. I do like that you included the original photo as the great minifig combos are easy to overlook in the main build. Fantastic job!

Age of Mitgardia (free-build-challenge)

Mills Stage 2: Ambarvale Mill -
Previously, Yngvi and Erik have finally reached their destination; the small town of Ambarvale nestled deep in one of the many fertile valleys of the area. On the outskirts of the town; adjacent to the nearest fields, is the mill. Powered by a constant flowing stream, the mill is owned by the feudal lord, Sir Alan de Crecy and operated by his miller, Rorik. One in every ten sacks of flour produced by the mill is claimed by Sir Alan as feudal lord. Rorik Miller collects the sacks which are stored at the mill while awaiting delivery to Sir Alan’s manor. Yngvi and Erik are visiting Rorik and his wife Aedith, when Sir Alan and two men-at-arms come to arrange delivery of the tythe. Sir Alan commanded both men during the troubles and has been attempting to persuade Yngvi to join his household warriors as a man-at-arms for some time. Sir Alan’s men are easily distinguishable by their blue surcoats with the falcon crest emblazoned on the front; as blue is an unusual colour amongst the fighting men of Mitgardia. Yngvi has politely declined Sir Alan's offer again. ______________ I've been working on this one for some time now and I must admit that I'm pretty pleased with the way it came out - It's probably one of my favourite builds to date! Not quite sure the photos do it justice. The roof is obviously done in classic @soccerkid6 style as to me nothing says Mitgardian architecture quite like the MDF/dark tan tile combo! He also suggested the technique for the base, which needed to be at least two bricks high to accommodate the waterwheel. One part I am not terribly happy with is the water - I probably would have preferred to build something, but I really need to expand my trans-clear to do so. Anyway not sure how much longer I can claim it is still autumn before I have to start building with some snow - which is largely unknown territory for me! Some WIP shots are in the Mitgardia main thread if anyone is interested.
