[ChIICatA Cor] Native Pearling Village
Ayrlego replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks everyone! I forgot to add that I did a breakdown of the huts - just in case anyone is interested. -
A nice scene at well conveys the movement. Also I really like the way you did the border. Great job! That's genius, I would never have thought of that yet it makes so much sense...

[COR-FB1] The Reckoning: Chapter 3: A Busy Day in Belson
Ayrlego replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A little late to the party, but this has to probably be my favourite build of yours yet Mesabi, great work. I especially like the yellow building and the bridge for the tram. Great work. -
A large residence... or maybe artisan - up to you guys, free for the good people of Fatu Hiva to license for themselves!

[SR - Era II - Ch II - Cat. B1] The Landing
Ayrlego replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Love the busy scene and those mirco-ships in the last shot are fantastic - especially the one with the green sails! -
A very well presented small build, I especially like the minifigure combos with my favourite having to be the soldier in the background. Nice work!
-
Nice build LB, I like how the trans dark blue contrasts with the tans and red highlights. Great mini-fig combos as well!

The native village looked extremely peaceful. Villages went about their daily tasks while the coconut palms swayed in the pleasant sea breeze. At first glance there wasn’t any sign of the violence which was said to terrorise the island’s interior. Captain Mark Webber halted the company of ETTC Sepoys which he led just outside the village, and ordered them to set up camp for the night. The sepoys were tough mercenaries from the southern Molokei Satrapies retrained trained in Corlander infantry tactics. They were here in Oleon territory at request of the Colonial Governor of the Paradise Islands, Colonel Sir Dirk Allcock, who wished to assist his Olean neighbours on the Île d'Or. Sir Dirk had opted to send ETTC troops rather than Corlander regulars, mostly to reassure the Oleon officials that their traditional enemy was here to help, not to invade. The sepoys, accompanied by Captain Webber, had landed in Fatu Hiva where they had been met by an Oleon liaison officer, Lieutenant Paul Castineau. Lieutenant Castineau had led the soldiers to a native pearling village on the outskirts of the settlement. From here the expedition would head into the jungle in an attempt to solve the mysteries causing so much panic in the colony. While the sepoys erected their tents, He and his Havildar (Sergeant) decided to accompany Lieutenant Castineau into the village to question the headman. Captain Webber’s impressions of idealic islander life did not change on entering. A young native women herded pigs along the track, watched by a strong native armed with a spear. A fisherman stood on the shore, hanging his catch up to dry in the pleasant afternoon sun. While underneath a shady platform, two women shelled clams, looking for pearls. Lieutenant Castineau had explained that this village was made up of a sea-faring clan of natives, whose tribe was spread across many islands in the South Eastern Prio Sea. They were popular with the Oleon colonisers due to their pearl diving industry. Fit young men and women would free dive to collect the clams for which the island had a reputation for. The clams would be brought back to the village where the pearls would be extracted, polished, then trade or sold. Jewellers back in Oleon had begun to demand more and more pearls form the Île d'Or, so business was booming. As these natives were different from the inhabitants of the interior, Captain Webber hopped to get a clear view of what was going on than from the terrified natives he had interviewed in Fatu Hiva. Lieutenant Castineau brought over the headman, and began to translate Captain Webber’s questions. It appeared that the natives here were untouched by the troubles, although this was not surprising as they rarely ventured much further inland than the outskirts of the village. The natives he had interviewed in Fatu Hiva had told wild stories of evil spirits and monsters that tore apart humans and animals alike, and their stories matched the ones the headman here had heard. After much cajoling, he then revealed that a crazed Halosian man had recently attacked some villages returning from a foraging expedition. From fear of reprisals, the natives had not reported the incident to Oleon authorities, although Lieutenant Castineau was not concerned. It was when the headman started telling the Corlanders about how the man had apparently been trying desperately to bite the villagers that a feminine voice spoke up from behind Captain Webber. Ella Hutchins, was a renowned scientist who had just returned to Jameston after accompanying Sir Dirk’s expedition. She had accompanied the new expedition to Fatu Hiva on request of the Governor himself. Ella wanted to know if the man appeared to have been foaming from the mouth. The headman nodded in astonishment – yes, the man had been foam before being dispatched by a hunting knife. Ella insisted to know whether any of the villagers had been bitten, to which the headman confirmed they had not. Seemingly relieved, Ella continued with some more questions. After thanking the headman for his help, the party turned to return to camp. “Do you have a theory Miss Hutchins?” asked Captain Webber. “Yes” Ella replied, “It is possible the man had rabies.” She answered. Captain Webber had never heard of the disease, but the Havildar had. While almost unheard of in the cooler north, it was common in southern regions of the Mokoloi Empire. The Corlander expedition would head into the jungle the following day to discover more… _____________________________________ Additional full image with the Corlander Party: And a breakdown of the hut design: May be licensed as a large residence (or perhaps artisan?) by the good people of Fatu Hiva. Unfortunately I don't think the expedition's adventures will continue as it is unlikely I will get a Cat B or C entry completed in time. I tried to spend a bit longer on this one and focus on a larger quality build rather than several smaller lower quality ones. Hopefully that worked out! C&C welcome.

Of course not, no worries at all - I just had a little chuckle when I realised!

Age of Mitgardia (free-build-challenge)
Ayrlego replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Awesome thanks! - I'll add the preamble to the thread title in the future (I thought about this time but wasn't sure...) I thought about using the hut for the community build but I think I'll save it for something bigger. -
[COR-FB] Embarking on the Grand Expedition
Ayrlego replied to Spud The Viking's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice, it's simple but crams a lot in! I like the bearskin troops with the kilted legs. I generally equip my better troops with the Brickarms muskets (there are two types, the flint lock and precession cap - I found that out the hard way...!) Marines and foreigners generally get Lego muskets! -
Awesome, thanks!

I really enjoy a build that manages to make lime green a realistic landscaping colour - they are rare but this is certainly among them! Love the gnarled look of the olive tree as well. Great job!

Like Titus, when I first got involved in the online Lego community I had no interest in building middle eastern themed builds - I'd simply never considered them when I thought of castle Lego. It was builds like this one; however, that rapidly changed my mind; I love working in tan now! The landscaping is really well done, especially the grey rock-work which I really admire and there is a great mix of tiles and plates to make the ground (I especially noted the use of the 2x2 round tile with the hole in the middle). At first I thought there might be a bit too much medium dark flesh/dark orange, but it is growing on me. I especially like the dark tan tower. Fantastic job (as usual) all round and it would have been so great to see this in person (the curse of living thousands of kilometres away from the rest of the world!).
-
Fantastic Titus, your wood work is flawless (as usual) and there are many techniques here I need to study closer. So many great details. I love it when we see an earlier than normal interpretation of the sail era (such as Capt Wolf's style) and this is an excellent addition, those Olean troops are great! Hmmm, that Corrie looks somewhat familiar!
-
Awesome row boat Garm, all the details are fantastic, and for such a small craft the back does make it quite sinister! Lol!
-
Some great troop combos here Merc, I have always especially liked Korne's Tirailleurs and your interpretation is great. I have considered using them for challenge II but as I am not Olean, I probably won't. What grey torso is the drummer wearing?

Age of Mitgardia (free-build-challenge)
Ayrlego replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
My first entry for consideration: Town/House/1st Phase: Hut -
Thank you all for your encouraging words and warm welcome! Like I said I really enjoyed this build and hope to have more on the way soon! Thanks Titus, To some extent I agree about the contrast, I did try to add some regular green stalks to the ground, but it didn't look right. In the end I decided that the greenry on the roof would be the same as that on the ground. It wasn't an easy choice, but I think they suit my more (attempted) realistic style. I don't have a lot, so it may be necessary to return to yellow at some stage! My BoBS builds will remain yellow! Sure is! This is my first MOC with my solitary and very recently acquired goat - he'll be sure to pop up in as many more as I possibly can get him in! Yeah I think you are right here, I don't think it would work at larger scales plus it was quite time consuming to do even on such as small scale. Wow, now you mention it that is an excellent suggestion and would make a lot of sense having the fireplace base raised above the floor level. I can't believe I didn't come up with that! Thanks!

Book III - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Ayrlego replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks all for the welcome! It's from this Bricklink store. I got 2 a couple of years ago to see what the quality was like - they claim to be pad printed. Now I wish I had got more as they are indeed high quality! The store also has them with a red border. It was a very, very close choice! -
Before setting of from his village and family, Yngvi Arnesson accompanies his young son Erik up into the summer pastures high in the mountains. Erik is probably still a little young to be tending the families small herds alone; so Yngvi will stay with him for a while and help him settle in to his work. They are staying at one of the many huts that dot the landscape above the tree line. These huts are used in the summer time by town people from the valleys who migrate up the mountains each summer with their livestock. Made of solid stone with a grass covered roof; the hut, while being basic, is still comfortable. The rear of the hut contains a large fireplace to keep the occupants warm and prepare food. Even in summer the nights are cold at this attitude. Inside are two beds and a table. It's not much, but most of the time is spend outdoors with the herds anyway. _________________________ Hi everyone, here is a build to accompany my sign up. Hopefully I've got everything right so far. The grass roof was really the inspiration behind the build and was the first thing I built, everything thing else just sort of followed. The stonework is a technique I haven't tried before and I was hesitant at first. In the end I think it turned out really well, I like the chunky, rough feel it gives the building. The base... well I wish I had a stack of olive plates, but I don't so I tried bricks... not too sure about the result! Unusual for my builds I also did an interior, which was another nice change. Anyway I really enjoyed this build a lot, hope you do to. Any comments/criticism are very much welcome. Some additional pictures:

Book III - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Ayrlego replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
Ygnvi Arnesson Titles and Profession: None Short Bio: Ygnvi Arnesson grew up in a small rural village set in the valleys of Mitgardia's southern mountains. His early summers were spent in the mountains tending to his families livestock and he seemed set to become a simple farmer. That was; however, until he was drafted into the local fyrd during recent troubles. Unlike many of his neighbours, he seemed to have a talent of fighting, and the taste of life outside of the village of his birth gave him a yearning for adventure. Now free of his service in the militia, he looks to make his name and fortune serving Mitgardia however he can. Parts: hair, head, torso (with green arms), legs _________________________ So after lurking around here for some time now, I've decided to take the plunge and sign up. I've been wanting to get back into building some castle themed MOCs for a while now and really want to take some time to concentrate on improving my building skills... so book III seemed like a great opportunity to get involved. I'm not to sure how active I will be but I am excited to be able to participate in something lower paced where I can take my time to concentrate on quality and improvement! I've also decided to go fleshie for my minifigs, but we'll see how that works out - I deliberately chose a head that is easily replicated in yellow just in case I decide to go back..... Anyway, I look forward to working with you guys. Cheers! -
She is one really beautiful ship Kwatchi. The tan planking completes the overall very smooth look and the rigging is fantastic. Great work!
