Perspective still has to be off quite a bit right? I mean, even on the corrected images, look at the bionicle tooth just opposite to the #5 panels above the headlights. It certainly looks curved, and we all know this piece is not curved...... -

Lol.....if paul is saying "very special things" i think we are going to be hearing the sounds of people changing their opinions of this set........ -

Or recognize that this is still considered a toy that will not meet everyone's needs and there are so many more ways to judge it. Personally, I could not care less about how it looks because I will be buying it just for the parts. Expensive parts pack? Yup! But likely it will have some parts that one cannot get anywhere else. -

+1 here. For a bunch of educated folks we all seem to not have much objectivity to how our minds work Everyone berated the Porsche for being all form and no function. Without even knowing anything about function we have everyone complaining about the form. Just gonna sit back and see the opinions run by like a train. One trailer, two trailer, three......... -

Fun to see someone replicate both in Technic. Likely possible with the piece selection and count that is likely to result from this set..... -

Yes, that is what I see as well. If we are literal in this picture interpretation (it is really 42083) then I think this is something no one has anticipated thus far. -
I would not worry about it much. First, I personally would prefer slow to any jerking... and going slow will decrease any. We are working with ABS after-all, some concessions have to be made.

[WIP] V12 LPE
nerdsforprez replied to Tommy Styrvoky's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As a fan favorite of LPEs, I will follow closely. Once all the rage, LPEs are not as common as they once were. You may want to contact Alex Zorko at lpepower.com he has produced some fantastic LPEs over the years. Not many have produced LPEs with the small cylinders. Many believe they are too weak though there have been some that look fairly powerful: Though I don't know. The plastic rod-part seem too weak to me. Large cylinders, aside from being larger and more powerful, are so much more powerfully built. -
I have voiced my fascination before here with cranes. There are some doozies out there.... but this may just take the cake. I will be a follower of this tread....

Looking closer I am sure there was some part inflation going on to make the 4,000 pieces. Not that I am complaining.... But take a look at the hubs. Aren't those 1x1 round tiles... in black? 8 per wheel? And I don't really think it looks that good. But... 8 x 4 = 32 pieces right there. Why the 3l black bars linking the chain hoisting the wall when the studded parts of the chain can both easily be connected into the connector that is in the wall? Historically, cranes have had a billion pins in their overall part count (42009 anyone? ). The switch on the BB, though I don't mind that it is covered from its ugly orange, has a switch built out of at least six pieces though the real switch is easily accessible. And that is right off the top of my head. I am sure there are many other examples. Couple other observations: - Is this the longest mobile crane boom we have seen in a Lego model (first stage)? 42009 was 3 11L (curved) panels long, this one is four. - Really like the use of the silver string as also used in 42070 and 42069. I really hope this is an ongoing tread. Really like this string. - Looks like there is a clutch gear near the main winch. Probably used in the system for lifting. So, like pretty much all cranes before it (42042, etc.) before anyone begins complaining of lifting capability this will need to be changed out for normal 24t gear. - Tool compartment? will it actually have tools in it? Kinda like 42069? Hope so, another trend I like.

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
nerdsforprez replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
But if they are still attached to something, like the Mixel pieces, then they would not fully rotate. Therefore, that would introduce a ton of friction to the slewing ring. I am not sure this would be a reasonable solution. -
No way four small LAs lift this off the ground

Man, is it just me or are sets from 2018 using more elbow macaroni pieces than ever before? Almost ever set uses some....- 313 replies

I appreciate your efforts to cater to our wallets......but i think at some point you just have to ignore us Case in point: your rugged supercar uses tons of dogbone liftarms and they can also be pricey. But, like the shocks, i dont think there is any way to build the car without them without compromising the build.

I dont think your a heretic. In fact, on this forum, you might be more of the norm. I actually am not really looking forward to this set. Judging by the engine....this set likely is not for me either. Likely will get it, but just for the parts. -
Very interested in building this little guy. Your last one you were able to complete instructions.... any plan to do the same with this guy?
-
You are more than welcome. I have been quiet about this project only because I have not had a chance to really read it and respond. I am still on the hammerhead supercar I actually just finished the car and your style is simply so unique and talented. I can't really say much that has not already been said except for the robustness in which you build. The fact that you can grab this, and your supercar from pretty much any direction or angle is simply outstanding. The robustness simply cannot over-stated. I think people are super impressed with the speed and performance of the final outcome of this - as well they should. But what good is speed and performance if it all falls apart on the slightest operator error? Outstanding job... I am sure I will be building this some day.....

Questions on hardcoupling
nerdsforprez replied to Tarix819's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The difference between motors, RPM-wise, is fairly negligible. Present, yes, but fairly minimal, and the resistance on the slower motor really isn't much different than the regular resistance used in most applications. -
Lifting capacity on both 42009 and 42042 was limited really by clutch only. Take out the clutch and lifting capacity not bad. Also, turnable did limit 42042 somewhat.
