  1. Very clever. And the light in the engine compartment is a nice touch. I would have preferred the intake for the engines to have fans or something for resembling an intake than just a rim. But overall, nice job.
  2. Great fun. I bet this was a blast to build and drive. Thxs for sharing. I especially like the grass-clipping mode (pilot view and you can see clippings going everywhere) It is funny though, given the recent conversation about how 42099's hubs supposedly are "damaged" too quickly. This is just another piece of evidence on how AFOLs use Lego for purposes other than what they were intended for. Fair enough, I do the same thing... but we shouldn't complain if parts get broken.
  3. To be fair, this is not a "Lego" thing. It is the way the tech industry is moving....period. I just bought an expensive Bose system and the thing took all morning... literally three hours to set up with all the blue tooth connectivity issues, WiFi, connecting bass, all speakers, etc. The whole system is controlled from my phone and there really isn't much of an option for anything else. I know my rant is not about Lego per se, but the world of phone connectivity, blue tooth, etc. is just the way things are moving. Went shopping for gym headphones the other day... same thing. Really hard to find a good set that plugs into my phone. All blue tooth with their own chargers, own battery, have to do the connecting thing.... etc. I have the same sentiment as you.... sometimes old technology is better. But multiple, WHOLE industries are responsible for these changes.... certainly not just Lego...
  4. So the issue of price comes up again. For reference see this thread: But because we are referring to exactly this set - I will reference it here. At 4108 pieces and around 6460 grams, this set is indeed expensive from a PPP and PPG perspective. At least this is the figure quoted by another member from Amazon. I question this. This makes the set pretty light given its number of pieces and all the motors/hub, etc. 42082 clocked in at just under 6000 grams and it only had a BB box and one motor. In fact, another way of looking at it is to divide the overall weight of a set by its pieces. This gives you weight per piece (I know, I know, so much other stuff in the box..... blah blah blah, this is admittedly an imperfect metric but at least it is something) which for 42100 would be a paltry 1.57 grams per piece. I think this may be unlikely given all the motors. If indeed this is correct then this set's weight is likely offset by many, many pins and/or other small pieces.
  5. Hmmmm....if this is correct then indeed this will be a pricy set compared to other sets. Ill plug it in my model later tonight. This should come as no surprise. If 42099 taught us anything, Lego customers pay a premium for new parts, eletronics, motors, etc. Probably something for overall R&D. Research into the issue indicates license issues contribute less to price than do PF functions, new Control+, etc.
  6. Some lucky folks will be receiving the set ahead of time. If anyone could be so kind, please post the weight of the whole box. Id like to calculate the price per gram of this set.
  7. Mark me.....someone will build it someday.....
  8. Agreed. And i do hope we dont see too much griping about the price. SAME price as the Unimog from nearly ten years ago (inflation) and approx. 500 more pieces? Good value IMO....
  9. As I've been mentioning all along, I didn't think the color was that odd.....
  10. But such an easy fix.
  11. Of course it can be used as a reference. In fact, it is more accurate as a reference than PPP is. The question was if PPP was completely null and void. Based on the input from others, I don't think it is. Although PPG is more accurate, it is more tedious to calculate (weight not as easily accessible as piece count) and still accounts for ALOT of price of a set. Additionally, as pointed out by others. piece count my add to the building experience where PPG likely will not. PPG is even more valuable in sets with tons of PF or other motors, etc. Or... as mentioned in the SW forum..... sets that are anticipated to carry many large, heavy pieces. I think the press release thread for the new UCS Star Destroyer Is a great example. At 699.99 USD and only just over 4500 pieces it comes to an abysmal ~ 15 cents per piece. However, many pieces are large, technic beams or panels as well as large regular system panels.... so lots of ABS. We don't actually have a weight for the set but I bet that it will be much more accurate in its relationship to price than the piece count is.
  12. BTW... speaking of weight.. I assume we don't have the weight of the box yet?
  13. Beautiful MOC. Surprised it hasn't received more attention. Love the scale. Supported.
  14. Wow. Beautiful design. Works very well and the PTO, varieties of attachments and configurations just show the thought put into this wonderful MOC. Thank you for sharing.
  15. +1 Calculations have actually been done on this showing PPG has a much better relationship with price than does PPP.
  16. Hey Jim - can you have a look at the 42099 CV "damage" thread when you have a moment.  A lot if immaterial.... material there.  Folks have been asking for it to be shut down for a while.  Nothing really substantial shared on it for a while despite many posts.....

  17. I don't mean for this to be snarky, I really don't, but folks complain all the time about realistic mechanics, movement, etc. Well, I have seen videos of the real thing, and it moves pretty slow. Anything this large does. Isn't the slowness just a manifestation of the real thing? Also, it would jerk and be difficult to control if faster - no? I really don't understand the "too slow" criticism.....
  18. How do you plan on incorporating the air tank? It will have to be quite large to power the vehicle for any real period of time. Given you have posted a link to green gecko's video's you likely have seen his. Tanks can be hard to use in Lego LPEs.
  19. Yea, but eventually it would be metal on ABS. I think it would be overkill. You would have metal CV connected to some axle or connector-type attachment. I won't repost any of my videos, but I have made several crawlers with SS parts. As someone that has played extensively with stainless steel axles and Lego, it never really goes over well. there is always quite a bit of damage when connecting Lego and ABS. Also, as pointed out by others, this would drive up the price of a set that is already 26 cents per piece, or 12 cents per gram. By far the most expensive Technic set to date (relatively speaking). Now the thread is on an all-out free fall. @Mechbuilds - You may have just made the most entertaining comment of the year.
  20. I apologize if this is a silly question. But wouldn't metal on ABS cause a lot more wear and tear than we are already complaining about?
  21. Although I am a long time member of this site, I have not ever used the site for selling something - even though I have several sets for sale. I haven't really ever needed any help. However, despite a 100% feedback rating - I have several sets which are priced among the lowest among their model, which don't seem to be going anywhere. Lego 8110 (Technic Unimog) and 42043 (AROCs) and the UCS R2-D2. I know the sets are selling b/c BL statistics tell me so. So.... I am just posting here. If you are looking for these sets i have some of the lowest prices anywhere and like I said, a 100% FB rating. Please PM me if you have any questions! And spread the word. Or.... if you have recommendations how I can appeal to more people, feel free to share some ideas. I know selling only to the continental US restricts my selling ability somewhat.... but I don't think it would affect it that much. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/my.page
  22. +1 Oh brother. Thats just it. An AD. Thats the operative phrase. If you base opinions or expectations on ads you will be in a world of hurt. They are not meant to reflect reality.
  23. I am not sure this is news. Its ABS - its gonna happen. Also, I don't see "damage" - I see "wear and tear" - its a normal part of the process when using ABS. Even mechanical parts that use steel and metal are prone to wear and tear. Its funny how easily we forget this is a kids toy. We use parts for more adult applications and then critique Lego when it does not hold up to our applications. I think its funny. Silicone lubricant will help a lot. However, if driven in the dirt, outdoors, etc. then I don't think it is a good idea. The lub. can attract the dirt, etc. and cause more problems.
  24. Kudos on completion of this build. Brilliant self-leveling mechanism. Something different.
