Night mode
nerdsforprez replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I made this thread here specifically for Technic fans. As a Technic junkie, I know this forum and its fans. Not off of us make it over to other areas of EB. -
By now folks have likely heard that TLG is experimenting with the idea of offering official, LEGO light kits for sets. Articles for what folks have stumbled across thus far can be found below: https://brickset.com/article/48909/night-mode-more-information I am making this post (1) to see the interest, if any, among AFOLs here in the Technic forum for these lights and (2) other thoughts about the light sets other than interest (i.e. hopes, aspirations, caveats, etc.) My initial thoughts are (1) yes, I would love official light sets for Technic sets. I have used thirty party light sets for years and I would love to compare the third party suppliers to an official LEGO product. (2) Once again this highlights, IMO, the risible nature of purist versus non-purist arguments of building preference. My sentiment can best be illustrated by a recent comment on one of the sites that discusses the Lego Night Mode experiment. This comment reads: "this is good news for the purists among us." Lol... Something that has been available for YEARS by thirty-party producers (and even by TLG in PF form), just because LEGO now might make an official kit that makes it purist? Off-topic , I know, but it is funny to me....

I understand this thread is for third party tires..... but I don't see another thread dedicated to rims so I am going to post this here. Just bought some colored rims off of AliExpress. They are phenomenal. I love the coloring. I know other places offer chromed parts, but I did not want the pure chromed color. These are more like a dull/matte aluminum. Coloring goes all the way to the back. Much more of a realistic color IMO than chromed rims. Bruno Jensen (creator of the P1 Mclaren in Technic) also presented his P1 with these rims, or those in a similar color. But best part is, ... they were 16$ USD FOR ALL FOUR. That is no more than the price for regular Porsche rims on like BL or something.

Moc Liebherr LTM 11200
nerdsforprez replied to Tirolian's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello and welcome to EB! Given you are a new member and this is your first post, perhaps a little introductory information might be helpful. Also, to best answer your question you should give some additional information about the MOC you are building. Who is the original builder? Given that you have instructions it might be best to contact the builder himself. Also, given you have instructions, it would be more helpful if you provided photos for us and were more specific in terms of what exactly does not seem to be making sense. -
Lego Hydrolics
nerdsforprez replied to Nazgarot's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I love this as well. I watched the review and all I could think of was someone creating an all Lego (well, minus these pumps) IV machine. I can see the benefit of a direct drip of caffeine in one's system as they build. Perhaps reviewers can get reviews out faster. Lego fueled, to build more Lego. Now all we need are Lego needles....- 7 replies

Your Best Technic Bargains
nerdsforprez replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good call. I just got a response to my message I sent to the store. Indeed, they cannot go out to even make the shipment (according to them) because their city is indeed on lockdown. I have no reason to not believe them. I sent them a message back thanking them for their response and that I will continue to wait. -
42108 - Mobile Crane
nerdsforprez replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
. Gotcha. Its funny how we do that as a community (myself included). We will post literally dozens (sometimes hundreds) of comments about a set before it is even released. We (I'm talking about all of us) really should be better about waiting for set releases, or at least official reviews, before we judge a sets value, quality, etc.... -

Why did we change the title of the post, yet again? -

Speaking of all things of countries not served by certain sites. Also, while I am at it... all things in terms of great deals on Lego sites out there. Few things: - Seems like us dolts in the continental US are limited in terms of sites that offer great deals on Lego Sets. I see others, particularly in Europe, getting great deals on a variety of sites that are not serviceable to the US. This really stinks. Many deals offered to others are not offered to us. - Speaking of getting ripped off..... I have heard of others often speak of Aliexpress here on this site. Is this a reputable marketplace? I recently bought some chromes Bugatti (Lego) rims and they have not shipped yet, and it has been just about a month. This does not seem right. I also bought some chromed Porsche rims from another store on the same site and it appears they have shipped (according to the site). THoughts? Is Aliexpress reputable? Should I be concerned that a purchase a month old has not shipped yet? Yes, it is coming from China so I want to give some latitude, but this seems excessive.... -
42111 - Fast & Furious car
nerdsforprez replied to Kaanere's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yea. Someone did. But i dont really consider that "confirmation". Like i said, strong speculation ..... But not confirmation. I think we would need an official statment from TLG , released photos, or at least a confirmed source. Not just "someone saw somthing at the N. Toy fair." -

nerdsforprez replied to Kaanere's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Has it been confirmed? I look back through the post and it makes sense that it is Dom's Charger, but it has not been confirmed. Only speculation. Strong speculation, perhaps, but only that. Unless you have a source. If so, please share! -

Doms charger has exact same rims as lego 10265. Hard to see this set (42111) not being released with these rims and therefore any other scale than 10265...... -
We have enough tools (pieces) to create a lot of things using existing parts. So although your point is true, it is self-evident and moot IMO. We also have enough pieces to create custom wheel arches, body panels, creative transmissions, etc. but that does not mean the new elements are not helpful and welcomed. What we are discussing is Lego elements, not what we can create out of Lego elements......
-
Perhaps not. But we have repeatedly gotten new transmission pieces over the years. Now, we have new shocks/dampers. We have gotten a motley of new design/body pieces, as well as a slew of new wheels, wheel arches, hubs and even ones with disc brakes. I can't think of anything more appropriate than new engine parts at this point. Our standard engine block elements, not counting the slotted vs. unslotted versions, have been in production for 30 years now. THIRTY YEARS. Yes, it is time for a change.
-
Perhaps true... but overly complicated in a Rube Goldberg, doesn't need-to-be-this-way, this-is-stupid way. Not in a cool-complicated way. I think there is a difference. Complication that increases sophistication and intellectual firepower is far different than over-complication that decreases sophistication and intellectual firepower.....

Children, teens, un-trained young adults; the upshot is still the same. Even UCS sets are not built for car, design, engineer- trained afecionados. I'll change "at best" to such sets being marketed for some adults; but they would be your run-of-the-mill, recreational to beginner level builders. Instructions, color vomit, etc and the way such sets are built tells us as much. UCS Technic sets are NOT the same as expert-level sets, nor are they created for such a crowd. Yet we all approach, complain, gripe, etc. as if such sets are build for the most ardent of MOC-builder and AFOLS. But admittedly, even my own argument is stale. Even I tire of it. I will shut-up now. I guess I just like to remind folks of this when I hear such vitriol and complaining. If you don't like something about a set (like new Volvo's cabin) - use the set as a parts pack and rebuild it. I guess to me that is what Lego is about. Its not supposed to be a build-and-be-done-with-it toy. Back to the topic..... oh man. This is probably first on my Lego wish list. This would be so great. This and new engine parts.....
-
My thoughts exactly. I will never understand why a bunch of grown men, many of which have advanced engineering degrees or degrees in related fields, sit around and complain the shortcomings of toys that are build for children, teenagers at best. A product clearly built for the masses. It really is quite interesting.
