Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
jonwil replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Now someone has confirmed that there is a code (MYTOYSALE) for the MYER website that gives an additional 10% off on everything else but not on LEGO. So you can forget about the extra 10% off this year. -

well someone reported on the other forum seeing something for the offer that had the usual "excludes Disney infinity, appcessories and nursery" but with LEGO added to the list. Its possible that some staff members dont yet know the details of the offer. -

What I have seen is reports on another forum from people who in turn have been told straight from the horses mouth (MYER staff) that whilst there IS an extra 10% off toys this year, the discount specifically excludes LEGO. -

Looks like there is no extra 10% off for MYER ONE on LEGO this year :( Now I have zero reason to even go to MYER for the sale, let alone buy anything (I WAS interested in the Sea Cow and maybe the Parisian but with no extra 10%, forget it) -

Best places to go for LEGO on the coast would be Pacific Fair and Robina Town Center. Pacific Fair is undergoing renovation right now but they have a Target, a K-Mart, a Toys R Us and a MYER (all of which are still open as far as I know). Robina Town Center is the biggest and best shopping center on the Gold Coast and has a David Jones, a MYER, a Big W, a Target and a K-Mart. Both Pacific Fair and Robina are easy to get to from surfers either by car or by bus. -
Uses for "useless" Technic parts?
jonwil replied to Hrafn's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Really the only difference is that all the specialized hard-to-use parts have shifted from Bionicle (counted as part of Technic) to Hero Factory (not counted as part of Technic) and in the process they became a little harder to use for other stuff :) -

I used the part with the chainsaw-type blades and ball end as harvesting blades on a Command & Conquer Tiberium Harvester MOC once... -
Yes he is a carpenter, he just happens to own a lot of tools :)

Roger Ramjet will never come back, its no longer "kid appropriate" (after all, he is a superhero who gets his super powers by popping pills, not a good image for the kids of today) Oh and speaking of old British cartoons/kids shows being made into movies, it appears as though Postman Pat is getting a movie as well.

There just happens to be lots of things in this MOC that I have owned or had in the family :)

Looking at the things that didn't make it, here are my guesses as to why: Macross has far too many licensing issues (different license holders in different countries etc) to be viable. Plus it doesn't have that "kid appeal" that it needs to be a viable product. Zelda has the same problem as the other Zelda projects (namely the need for new molds and the issues surrounding Nintendo and licensing) Japanese Old Style has the problem that the project didn't narrow down a specific exact building to make plus again it didn't have the kid appeal. Adventure Time, licensing may have been an issue plus there is the issue of how broad the appeal base for a cartoon line that is (and the large size that such a set would need to be to pull off the tree house at a suitable scale) UCS Delorian, the first Delorian is still on sale, this one would have cost a fair bit more and we dont know if there were licensing issues (e.g. the fact that this one is PF remote control may conflict with someone else who has a license to produce a remote control Delorian) Sherlock just doesn't have the kid appeal either plus a set that's just a room full of stuff with a few minifigs doesn't sound like something that would sell. Looking at the next set of ideas: I cant see the modular Apple store making it, both because Apple is unlikely to grant LEGO a license and because LEGO is unlikely to want to produce a product that is so closely tied to another real world company in this way. Plus, how many kids (even kids with iPhones or iPads or iPods or other Apple gear) would be interested in an Apple Store play set? Big Bang Theory isn't really something that appeals to kids, nor is there that much potential for a set beyond "a room of stuff with some figs" with no real playability. The bird project is interesting but again, how many kids (or even AFOLs) would want a model of a bird? My hope is that the BTTF train gets made (its different to the Delorian so there is no overlap between the 2, its a logical extention to the line, the Delorian has sold in big numbers and the train would probably sell just as well). Only question mark would be how expensive it would need to be in order to work as a set (its a fair bit bigger than the Delorian) and whether it gets ruled out on the basis of size/price. As for Doctor Who, assuming the license can be secured, the hard part for them is figuring out which of the many Doctors to put in the set. I just hope if it gets made, it comes with a Dalek (which would have to be up there as one of the most recognized robot bad guys of all time with their unique looks and famous "Exterminate" voice) EDIT: The other issue for Adventure Time might have been the need to make new elements to really get the look right.

Here are some pictures of a 3 story house I made (it takes up most of a 32 x 32 baseplate) The husband of the house is a carpenter by profession and a big DIY nut. Most of the furniture in the house has been made by him in the back shed. He drives a dark blue Holden tray-top Ute. There is also a wife, an older teenage boy and younger twins. Some of the furniture has been modeled in LDD and posted in this thread (mostly the bits interesting enough to be worth posting) http://www.eurobrick...topic=95966&hl= Exterior of the house: Another exterior picture: Close up view of the side of the house with the wheelie bins and meter box Close up of the garden and alfresco area with Webber Kettle BBQ: View of the interior of the shed showing all the tools: (the orange thing is a Triton WorkCentre saw table Top floor of the house with the master bedroom, master bathroom, storage room and games room: Master bedroom with bed, desk, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cupboards. Games room with pool table, pool equipment rack, music gear and bar. The husband of the house (with the red shirt) is playing cards with his mates: Master bathroom with shower, toilet and double sink: Second floor of the house with kids bedrooms and family bathroom: Family bathroom with toilet, bath, sink and shower: Twins bedroom with drawers, bunk bed, desk and shelves. The kids are playing with their LEGO :) Teenagers bedroom with bed, wardrobe, bedside, desk and TV/video game cabinet. The teenager loves skateboarding, listening to his music and watching his TV. (if I had a lime green hairpiece, I would have used that but I dont) View of the second floor walkway with views to the ground floor below: Ground floor with kitchen, laundry, dining room, garage, alfresco area and living room (if you look closely enough you might just be able to see the family cat hiding under the stairs). You can also see the husbands blue Ute in the garage. Alfresco area with outdoor table and Webber Kettle BBQ: Kitchen with fridge, oven/stove and sink. The thing on the bench behind the wife of the house is a George Foreman G2 Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine & Griddle Dining room with wooden dining table: Laundry with washing machine, dryer, laundry tub and laundry cupboard: Living room with big screen TV, surround sound home theater system and black leather couches:

I like this, looks very realistic.

Great review. If I still built Technic, I would probably buy one, especially as I love all things Scandinavian (Volvo included) But I dont build Technic anymore and there are higher priorities for my 2014 wish list (like the Spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP! and the Ecto-1)

The last thing we need is yet another Batman set (exclusive or otherwise). Why doesn't LEGO do a Marvel exclusive? Its not like there aren't plenty of options (X-Mansion, Avengers HQ of some sort)

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
jonwil replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Its quite possible "Dino Tracker" is a mistranslation although the fig itself looks useful and its nice to get the hawk-eye bow in a cheaper set. The wizard is cool, as is the gamer. Is that a new helmet on the space miner? The ray gun in orange is new too I think. As for all the Greek and Roman figs we are getting, its possible that the LEGO designers want to do a Greek/Roman styled theme (and have wanted to for a while) but have thus far been unable to get it green-lit and have therefore been trying to fit Green and Roman themes into other places (e.g. the vaguely Greek/Roman architecture in that Atlantis set and all the Greek/Roman CMFs we have been getting)- 1,109 replies

What Marvel/DC Characters Will NEVER Get Minifigures?
jonwil replied to Suspsy's topic in LEGO Licensed
I dont see why Gambit wouldn't get a fig, especially with the Gambit-origin-story film being made (I know LEGO doesn't make sets for the Fox X-Men films but the 2 X-Men sets we have had to date have had the comic versions of characters appearing in the film) -

Other than Queasy Kitty and the sticker sheet, are there any parts in the Sea Cow that are unique to that set or otherwise really really hard to get (the cow itself doesn't count since its also in the new cargo train :)- 2,626 replies

Simpsons House spotted at Big W Beenleigh as of earlier today if anyone wants one. -
I have just finished creating (in LDD) some furniture I made for a house MOC (the house MOC as a whole will posted as soon as I find the cable for my camera so I can get the pictures off and upload them) The story of the house I made is that the husband is a carpenter by profession and a DIY nut and built most of the furniture himself in his shed. The furniture was copied in LDD so others could see how it was made and copy it for themselves. A picture is here The .lxf file is here The furniture I created is as follows: solid hardwood wardrobe solid hardwood tallboy chest of drawers solid hardwood bedside with lamp solid hardwood desk with lamp black leather desk chair solid hardwood double bed front loader washing machine/dryer (and yes the 2 x 2 tiles DO exist in trans-clear, I have at least 2 of em :) solid hardwood TV cabinet with home theater receiver/media player (the black 2 x 4 tile facing forward should have a TV sticker on it but LDD doesn't have the decoration for that) 2 black leather couches solid hardwood dining table and chairs (this one is loosely modeled after the solid Jarrah table and chairs my parents have) solid hardwood outdoor table and chairs (also loosely modeled after a table and benches that was in the family) pool table solid hardwood rack for the pool accessories George Foreman G2 lean mean fat reducing grilling machine and griddle (I used to own one before I replaced it with a newer model George Foreman) black Webber Kettle BBQ 2 Wheelie bins (green for rubbish and yellow for recycling) Triton Workcentre saw table (this is what the husband of the house uses to make his furniture, I believe my family still has one somewhere) These next few go into the little kids room in the house red-painted chest of drawers blue-painted desk with lamp orange-painted bunk bed green-painted bookshelf with books These go into the teenagers room in the house black/lime green desk with lamp lime green stool lime green wardrome black/lime green bed lime green bedside with lamp lime green TV cabinet with TV for the teenager to watch TV and play X-Box on (the 2 x 2 tile with computer monitor should have a TV sticker on it but LDD doesn't have the sticker)

The good thing about London is that if its walking distance from the tube it automatically counts as "easy to get to" regardless of how far it actually is :)
