  1. Report from Robina: Djs has simpsons house x 3, creator tree house, the larger creator house with the blue garage door, some left over older Turtles gear (lair, van and turtle cycle), a couple ucs x-wing, jabbas palace, sail barge, rancor pit, other star wars, star wars board game, lotr board game, chima board game, new chima speedzors, friends house, friends ranch, friends advent calendar and a 20% off sale still going. Big W had S2 Mixels, police station, big red ninjago temple, new chima including speedzors, plenty of orange boats, plenty of friends boats, lotr orc forge, wargs, black gate, small hobbit set from last year and the Big W exclusive friends corner bakery. No bike shops. Big sets not on the shelves, just a "go to the counter to buy this" sign. K-Mart has the dog squad, helicopter truck, coast guard boat, bike shop, S2 mixels, simpsons figs and various Star Wars items. MYER has nothing worth buying that I saw even at 3 for 2 unless you need 3 giant Opera Houses. Target has sea cow, bike shop, plenty of copies of TLM on both DVD & Blu-Ray but little else.
  2. Best idea for your 48x48 baseplate dilemma is to do what I did when I needed something capable of moving a 48x48 baseplate sized creation, take an empty baseplate to your local Bunnings Warehouse and try the baseplate in the bottom of various sized tubs until you find one that it can fit in and that has the right height. Not sure what brand the one I have is but its definitely a Bunnings purchase and its strong enough that survived being moved on the back of a moving truck from Perth to Brisbane.
  3. Although I am more of a Holden guy, I do love the way you have captured one of the most iconic Aussie cars of all time.
  4. Regarding the choice of torsos, of all the torsos LEGO currently produces that are specifically identifiably "female", those 2 are the 2 that are probably the most appropriate for the set. Can anyone suggest other specifically-female torsos LEGO makes that would have been a better choice? (bearing in mind that the torsos cant be from any licensed theme including LEGO movie, cant be from a CMF and cant have ties to a specific retail product line such as Arctic)
  5. I cant put my finger on it but the scientist guy (especially the face) reminds me of a character from a cartoon. I believe the cartoon is recent. Anyone out there happen to know which cartoon I am thinking of?
  6. Also the Exo Suit requires a lot more work to make it into a playable set than the ecto-1 and this research institute set.
  7. It wouldn't surprise me if David Jones have deliberately removed certain product from the shelf prior to the sale (wouldn't be the first time they have done it from what I can remember seeing)
  8. I dont mind the 6-wide parts like those seen in the photo above, they are quite useful for helicopters, airplanes and other things. The larger 8-wide airplane parts I dont like so much though, they are just too limited. Same with the large one-piece boat hulls (I have an orange one from a Coast Guard set that just sits there in my box of bits)
  9. FYI, for those looking to buy the bike shop and cant get it from Big W for some reason, K-Mart seems to be the best store to try and get a price match at.
  10. Very nice job, I can just imagine the judge ordering that guy in chains being sent to some hellhole jail cell or off to the docks to be sent to some far flung corner of the world as a convict...
  11. No, I was picking it up from someone who ordered it from Shop @ Home.
  12. Just built my Ecto-1, it is AWESOME and a very fun build. Picked up my Bike Shop from K-Mart Indooropilly. MYER wouldn't price match because there is no Big W at Indooropilly. Target said they only price match during their own sale. K-Mart price matched no problems without even needing to verify stock at Mt Ommaney (which did have stock, as did K-Mart Mt Ommaney) One sea cow and a few opera houses left at MYER Indooropilly but not much else.
  13. With all the deals on that police station since its release, I pitty anyone who has bought one and paid full RRP for it. I got mine earlier in the year at 20% off at MYER.
  14. I have heard of Sushi Trains but never a Curry Train. Great job :)
  15. btw anyone on the fence about buying the Bike Shop set at that Big W price, DO IT. I gaurantee you wont be able to get it cheaper. I hopefully intend to pick one up tomorrow (where depends on if I can find a MYER that will do the price match or a Big W that will sell it to me with the everyday rewards card offer signing up right there) If anyone has any tips on what to say to the MYER staff to get them to price match the Big W price on the Bike Shop, please feel free to share them :)
  16. This is using Qualcomm Vuforia AR technology, the printed base is likely used by the app so it can recognize the objects and properly digitize them, i.e. its what the app uses for a reference point. I like the idea, too bad my phone isn't one that this will work with.
  17. Very nice gas station, I love art deco.
  18. Fact is, even if LEGO opened brand stores, its unlikely to have much of a negative impact on the availability of the big sets. MYER, David Jones, Target, Big W, Toys R Us etc have enough power that if TLG tried to take away their big set allotment, they would fight back.
  19. Wow, that is amazing.
  20. Big W catalog is up https://www.bigw.com.au/offer/catalogue Some nice deals there (the bike shop & cafe is amazing value at that price, I am sorely tempted to pick one up for parts...)
  21. Even in the US they still give retailers access to the big exclusives. Walmart, Amazon and Toys R Us all list big "d2c" sets on their online sites (including Star Wars UCS, modulars, Cuusoo and Creator Expert). I see no reason to think that LEGO Australia would stop giving retailers access to these exclusives just because a LEGO store opened up. (especially with such a store probably only being in Sydney or Melbourne).
  22. Guardians of the Galaxy is out in theaters here in Oz on the 7th of August so we will probably see the sets in the next few weeks, Marvel would probably want the promotional merchandise for GOTG to be on shelves before the film hits. Also there are reports on another forum that at least one person (who went to MYER late in the day when they were already putting out the sale signs) who was able to convince the staff (probably some low-paid employee who didn't know any better) to give them the extra 10% off even though the deal excludes it.
  23. There are also movie clips for the construction mech and drop ship too.
  24. Most likely the piece budget for the set/line/year was used up and they didn't have a spot in for #3 angle connectors in red so they had to use a color already in production (in this case light bley)
  25. I love this. You really captured the feel of a proper carpet shop. I can just imagine this thing being in TV commercials with some voice over guy saying "50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, even 90% off. One day only" (until next week when we will have another sale)
