I like the newer version's tender too, but I'd have to say that I agree with Murdoch that the 2 bogie version seems more appropriate to the model as a whole. The one element I miss the most from the first version's tender is the l.gray 2x12 section on the sides.

I think it could be interesting if Lego committed to narrow gauge (4wide) with a dedicated straight rail? Ooh, and maybe a singular wye ("Y") shaped switch so they wouldn't have to bother with making a left&right handed ones? ((Not sure about a cross (+) track piece since they haven't made one for PF trains (yet))) Some possible set ideas include: 1) Friends' Party Train (with actual train this time, not a bicycle) 2) Mining cart set (not Minecraft tho) 3) Trolley Set (to go with the Creator Modulars) 4) RollerCoaster set (to go with the amusement park sets) 5) Small Industrial Set (where load is moved on rails) 6) *Something In Space* (Blacktron? IcePlanet? Mars?) 7) A working elevator/lift (for figs, cars, etc) 8) A "slingshot" device/"railgun" 9) Narrow gauge "Winter" train ...And I'm out of ideas. Would you go for narrow gauge train items? Especially for the more abstract ideas that I listed? Do you gots any ideas?

Oh, there's quite a bit that can go wrong........ That hopefully won't. Can't have too much more of my childhood ruined! I'm looking at you Godzilla, Transformers, Spiderman, and TMNT

I agree, I think R&C's downfall was the heavy focus on shooting everything, whilst story elements fell far to the wayside. I think what could really reboot the R&C franchise is if this new game's story extends in various directions past that of the movie (ie. before, during, after) Will definitely be a problem if the movie mimics the game and vice versa, to the point that they're not separatable... Just my thoughts though...

At this point, even a brief/obscure reference to the next train(s) randomly appearing in Lego Dimensions, or casually in a TV ad, or even in the background of a promo poster for something else would be greatly appreciated. Even if they showed like first bogie's worth of the next train(s), I could climb out of my deep depression. Time to buy some things for 2x vip points; I need an infusion of bricks........!

powered bogies, vertical or horizontal? what is better?
M_slug357 replied to THERIZE's topic in LEGO Train Tech
With both, you need this piece http://brickset.com/parts/design-73603 to connect the bogies to the locomotive body. This way, the bogies can turn independently from the direction that the drive axle is turning. There will probably be some resistance when the bogies turn in an opposing direction to the drive axle. Hope this helps! -
I think your power loss would come mostly from how many 9v motors are in operation at a time on the loop. I'd guess that more than 2-3 motors, and there might not be enough power to go around/ max speed & run time are greatly reduced. The best idea would be to separate (isolate electrically) your layout into at least three 15 foot sections of track, each one with it's own batt box & reciever. Possibly break it down to more sections depending on how large and how many sidings you eventually put up. Hope this helps!

Hmmmm.... with all these re-releases.... What if they re-released the Emerald Night?? Ruby Night? Sapphire Night? I'm not sure I like this trend....
-
I do think it would be nice to get just a snippet of information, like a name drop, or even a vague announcement that something's in the works. Randomly, I think it would be quite interesting if the new train appeared ever so casually in a tv show-- Big bang Theory, or Dr. Who perhaps?

Instead of designing switches, just have a turntable or transfer table if you need to connect to multiple lines.

Well... maybe make the entire car flat, but have side panels that can hold the auto's in place, yet also fold down to double as a ramp for said auto's? You may also be able to fit more autos (like 4x) per flat car if you put them parallel to the track?
-
I'd say go Emerald Night, but bricklink the parts for a different colored engine-- the 2x4 panels for the boiler come in a nice variety of colors now...

For a scene inside, maybe a little hobo campfire? Needs a hole in the roof for ventilation.

Kinda depends on what the train(s) will be doing? Are they multi-purpose? Rocket transporter/ launcher? Rail Artillery platform(s)? SciFi / Fantasy inspired? More details about your general aim would be good! : )

Well, according to Lego's element specs, L motors can get up to 380 rpms unburdened-- In the speed setup, 380 x (5/3) = about 630 rpms, In the torque setup, 380 x (3/5) = about 225 rpms

Hey everyone! Been fiddling around in LDD for a few days now, and finally have something decent enough to post. I am working on this project with the intention of proposing it on Lego Ideas, however I would much rather know what you all think first!! This project started as an attempt to place PF components into a model of a Midland 4F. The end result imho looks... boxy and generic to say the least, but that may end up being a good thing...? The dimensions in studs are: 34 long by 10 1/3 tall by about 7 wide, not including the side rods. Front: Midland 4F(v3) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr Back: Midland 4F(v3)2 by Nick Jackson, on Flickr The colored cables are: red= receiver, green= motor, yellow= lights. Below is a close-up of the frame setup. I REALLY like how this turned out, because: 1) it has space to mount an L motor! 2) I can change gear ratios from 5/3 (speed) to 3/5 (torque) manually! Midland 4F(v3)3 by Nick Jackson, on Flickr Please give me some feedback, all are appreciated!

I half-heartedly agree... They coulda put some Divers or Space related stuff instead of the helicopter and digger(backhoe?) At the very least, make the copter more robust/bigger, requiring a flatcar for the main body and another flat for the props and tail. Would be a tad too ironic to have a cargo helicopter as the cargo?

Remember to support your axles from both ends

Didn't you just build this model a couple months ago !?! Well, everything breaks down eventually..... -
So that's where all the tan windows went.....

I remember reading/seeing that somewhere too... Did you search flickr? I think there were concept fotos on there... But yeah, I can't remember if that guy mounted the AAA bat box under a 6x28 train base, or if he made his own base... :/

If your ramp ends up being one-sided, you can always make a coal dump of sorts (assuming you have some coal cars)?

I think the most interesting part of this test is how an element's actual color influences the color of the overlaid tape. I can't wait to use these on an actual model!
