  1. I'm personally exhausted with high speed passenger trains... It's a monstrous task to get those nose shapes to look right and fit TLG's 6 wide standard via brick-built noses, which is why they make those one-time use large parts in the first place. This is why I'd say we need more urban/commuter style passenger service instead of express/cross-country service! Also, I'm not really banking on a steam engine for a while due to that WV train set, although it'd be a pleasant surprise. If you look at the two prior steam engine offerings, those where both produced as movie tie-ins. So, unless some kid-friendly movie that features a steam engine in it is coming out later this year, that TLG is making merchandise for... probably no steam :/ Fingers are crossed that I'll be proven wrong tho!
  2. Of course it would! However, depending on how well the last "change-of-pace" train set sold will ultimately determine when&what the next "different" train set will occur. Also, if the previous iterations of freight sets are being phased out, then logically a new one or two will take their place-- this time with preferably less helicopters, half-***'d cattle cars, and flimsy flat cars.
  3. I agree- while the EN undoubtedly reinvigorated Lego trains, there are definitely more avenues of interest that deserve to be explored/expanded. I think it'd be great to have the next 1-2 sets feature smaller engines, such as trams or switchers. I'd bankrupt myself for some 12V era throwbacks of sets like 7730 & 7735. After seeing pics of the upcoming "cargo terminal" set from the German toy fair, I'd wager that we'll most likely get a frieght train set (diesel?) to compliment it. If I'm right, it'll most likely be green to match the "CARGO" brand. Also, it's been awhile since the last green engine.
  4. @Shupp, I would definitely go for both a thick driver wheel and thin carriage wheel!! But logically, if you could get the thin one out for testing purposes, that'd be great!
  5. Does it really have a door at the back of the cab like that...?
  6. I think a DMU (railcar) set would be ideal for Friends! Not based on any real-world example per sé, but maybe leaning more Japanese? Certain color combinations would also make it attractive to non-Friends fans, such as: -Azure w/ white, pink, or yellow trim -Lavender w/ white, red, or yellow trim -White w/ a yellow-pink-purple stripe (like a metroliner redux) -Lime green upper half w/ white lower half -Dark Red upper half w/ Dark Azure lower half -Purple upper half w/ Lime green lower half They might have to be built a bit taller than standard train sets, but might be feasible to lower them if shared bogies are used? Ideally, a 2 piece set so that enough of the parts' budget is left for a DECENT station façade, no wimpy platforms allowed! lol.
  7. @Lowa I think it best to go with r24 system, but also maybe go up to r60 & r72? Honestly, I'm just excited for whatever the community ends up choosing.
  8. We should set up a system to "smuggle" the rails into Europe; Does anyone know anyone who frequently hops/sails the Atlantic for "business"? I'm half joking cuz I live in the states, but seriously though..............
  9. @asleepatheswitch if a motor is running slower than the others, doesn't that mean it's kinda dying? Might be time for the pasture...... and switch to powerfunctions.......?
  10. Under this line of thought, Lego should return to a format similar to the "My Own Train" days? I think that the idea was good, but the implementation was terrible. If I could redo it, the first thing would be that all sets should have at least 1-2 alternate builds. Second, I would borrow the combine-ability of mixels & bionicle to allow for the construction of larger engines & rolling stock. Lastly, I wouldn't bring back the multiple color schemes (that was used on the engines) per sé, but rather have common elements present in the series of sets that are in alternate colors-- for ex., engine set A would have various curved parts in blue that are also present in freight car set B, but in red, thus allowing you to swap those parts. Just another out-there idea of mine. Anyways, back to wild speculation of new trains: "What color do you speculate the next train(s) will be?" I'm hoping for another blue one (pref dark), and think we may get a full sized version of 31054!!
  11. .........you could always switch over to PowerFunctions.......... But yes, if you can focus as much weight as possible over any/all powered wheels, you should see better traction returns. Also, if the 9v motors still have their original traction tires, it's probably time to get new ones-- I believe O or HO scale traction tires would suffice, as long as they're tubular ones (not the flat kind).
  12. @KikoTube, that station looks great! What about putting a fence between the two through lines?
  13. I agree that it should be a smaller gap between lines... I forgot, are we measuring the rail to rail distance or the sleeper to sleeper distance? I could go with 4 studs ' spacing sleeper to sleeper...
  14. The advantage of putting the rail on a 2 stud tile (or 1s, like I originally suggested) is that you'd be giving the customers more freedom in how & where they utilize the products. What if I want my monorail lines to be color-coded, or use some old gray to add a weathered look? What if I want to use the rails to make like a freight elevator, or something else that isn't monorail? What if I wanted to use these rails to add greebles to my spaceships & star cruisers? If you look at all of the extremely large lego elements available today-- most notably the airplane tail section element-- they're difficult to use anywhere, or as anything else. Another couple of advantages would be: less printing time per element less material used per element lower cost per element (to the consumer) Basically, you should try and leave the door open to as many possibilities that people can come up with! Hope this helps, ~M_slug
  15. Instead of putting the stud receptacles into the notched rail portion itself, wouldn't it make more sense to just attach the rail to a 1xn long tile section? Just like how the older 12v and 4.5v rails are situated on 2x8 plates, albeit permanently attached. You'd increase the overall height, yet expand the overall versatility... just my 2c...
  16. Might I suggest going a bit more technical? I've been working for a while now on a string engines that use a singular L-motor for power. For your project, this would unfortunately reduce the # of L-motors, but also potentially increase the amount of space you have in the boiler- you could place the weights and Sbrick directly on top of the driven axles. Let me know what you think/ if you're interested?
  17. EXPLOSIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've always wanted to make an explode-able boxcar, much like this Lionel one:
  18. more studs, I have attachment issues.
  19. @Shupp, any chance of a smaller-than-medium-sized wheel? MS for short?
  20. @coaster I want one too! As always, these look awesome!
  21. @Shupp, a few of the libraries in my area are starting to offer 3D printing services too! You may want to check your local college or jc campus' libraries. @dr_spock I would love to get a copy of your liftarms' file! How much stress can they manage? (message me?)
  22. @Lowa, Just a few suggestions: -Maybe make a groove on the side of the motor housing that could accommodate the light unit's cable? -What's wrong with dark grey? You should offer both color options (and maybe white for dying/painting?) if possible! Other than that, this looks great!
  23. @BrickingMyself, Don't worry, I'm not that great with the correct terminology either! Basically, assuming that you have a pair of switches, use one to divert from the main loop and then the second one to create two stalls/ buffered ends. credit: bricksmcgee.com
  24. For your layout, I'd recommend expanding it with the switches on one side-- you can make a 2 stall siding! Another option would be to make a figure 8 layout, but you'll need more track though. Also a cross piece: Hope this helps!
  25. Very cool solution for those cab windows!
