  1. This is definitely a great leap forward for BMR! Since some of BMR's staff comes from Railbricks, does this mean we might get to see updates/continuations of various articles? Also, maybe a return of certain recurring segments, like that reverse-engineering challenge or monthly MOC builds? Not that I'm opposed to new content, just saying that some features are classic!
  2. I too, prefer the second design, but feel the chain element is a bit much. I think that for the real-life build of these, you should mix in old grey and/or dark bley parts to give a bit of a weathered look!
  3. How does one get from the coach to the lavatory while the train is in motion...?
  4. And then there's this attitude that makes it even harder to cater to train builders...!!! While I'll confess to being primarily a steam builder, that doesn't mean I'd shy away from decent sets featuring more modern trains. I'd say that TLG needs to get back into the habit of having multiple builds in their train sets -- even if the alt models look a little funky. I've personally been working on an Ideas submission that will hopefully satiate a vast majority of train builders with one set offering. These are the four different models that I'm in the process of building irl & Ldd: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMS_Fowler_Class_4F https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavarian_EP_2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4-4-0 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_08 I also plan on adding more possible builds in the future, but these are the main four. (((maybe this'll make the Ideas cut? lol)))
  5. What I think that ME should do with the whole adapter situation is that they should publish a tutorial on how to make that adapted section (the filed down bit) on any of the non-adapted metal rails. I also wouldn't mind if they released a quarter length adapter track, for those of us that don't have a lotta acreage for trains. On the consumer's side however, we do need to just embrace the adapters, and future layouts should probably be split up by what tracks are being used&where. For my personal layout, I currently have 3 loops - two are PF and one is 9v - they are connected via two single crossovers so that the PF trains at least can go between zones. So, I think people should consider reorganizing their layouts in a similar fashion by trying to group as much of the ME 9v tracks together as feasibly possible, thereby reducing the need for adapter sections. Anyways, I still think that a tutorial on how to adapt the tracks to the original 9v connections would be (fairly) well received... just a lot of filing/sanding right?
  6. It's not cost-effective for TLG to do so at the moment...
  7. Looks good! I would've opted to enlarge the tender to accommodate the battery box though, and also make the tender with 4 axles instead of two. How long did it take you to generate these instructions btw?
  8. LoL, touche! I would say then if you have the older holiday train, maybe update it with some more cars/ newer parts? ((I should've wrote "If you have 4 or less than 4 trains = Coin Toss"))
  9. I'd say split the difference...? Buy an extra copy (or two) of the train set you like the most, then save up to jump on the upcoming one(s) Or, maybe gamble for if/when the current sets go on sale! I'm hoping that they do...
  10. @Glenn Holland, I'm glad we're on the same thought process! I think that if the motor was pushed back at least 4-8 studs' worth, that should hopefully accommodate something as large as 10 by 60 studs..?
  11. @Lowa, instead of making the motor farther away from the switch vertically, maybe make it horizontally farther away? Ex: [motor] [motor]-----[switch] | versus [switch]
  12. I'd go to http://brickset.com/ There you can find parts' lists for sets as well as links to various vendor websites. Definitely a great help to build multiple cars and cars in different color schemes. Good Luck!
  13. Why not something from Amtrak? Or, if you're from California, maybe Caltrain?
  14. there was a little blurb about a mini train build coming out for Creator in 2017..... Which will hopefully lead to an actual Creator (expert?!) train set later on, kinda like a reverse of how we got the Emerald Night followed by the Emerald Express... At least that's my wishful thinking....
  15. Looks good despite some play-- but ultimately that's what it's for yeah? Q: where does your layout fold away to?
  16. @coaster ((I don't get it)) :/ I honestly think that dual gauge track, while tremendously fascinating, may be too complex to actually do. Especially when it comes to curve track & switches. Are we talking about a dual gauge system where: A standard rail section has 2 additional rails in between for narrow gauge use? ||..|| A standard rail section has 1 additional rail that's offset to one side, and shares a rail with narrow gauge? |.|..| The first scenario would be easier to implement (in my mind) but requires more rails/materials. The second one requires less rails/materials but could get very complicated to implement.
  17. I like the effort so far! I don't understand the reason for the clicking noise? I think you may've mistaken an internal mechanical noise (damage) in your 7760 as something done on purpose?? I wouldn't know since I never owned a copy of the original... I also tried my hand at updating the 7760 with PF components: https://www.flickr.com/photos/94581721@N06/albums/72157643245649484
  18. If you don't already have trains = Yes If you have less than 4 trains = Coin Toss If you have more than 4 trains = No (but now might be a good time to bricklink the large wheels)
  19. (((I'm somewhat glad I jumped on the PF bandwagon then)))
  20. Keep calm, and buy more trains! MOCing your own trains may satisfy your new urges... ;)
  21. For bars, I meant the lightsaber element: http://brickset.com/parts/design-30374 Although a technic peg (pin) hole would be more accessible, i think the diameter of one would clash with the existing axle hole? Hence the bar as an alternative
  22. ((what about the backside?)) ((what size band did you use?)) These look great!! I think something to consider also would be the addition of a regular size wheel that has a hole for a bar (or a pin) -- for narrow gauge steam engines!
  23. Spacecraft is great!! How about a MRR - Mars Rail-Rover?
  24. Why the need for 10 studs wide??? ......I don't think those 12V motors will appreciate such working conditions.......
  25. That may work! just as long as the motor isn't wider than 2 studs or taller than 4 studs, it should be fine. i think more ppl may go for longer&lower versus shorter&higher... What kind of motor(s) are you going to use btw?
