  1. Thanks for the feedback! I'm trying out a few different designs for my 4-8-2 EN mod. I want it to be fast yet strong enough to pull the coaches I made...
  2. Are more freight wagons also in the works? I thought these two engines were interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SJ_F_(steam_locomotive) & https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SJ_D
  3. What works for you better: having the first pair of drivers blind or flanged? Also, FBBF versus alternating?
  4. You mean, like a narrow gauge train motor...? If you could devise one that's around the size of a 2x6x2 "counterweight brick," with 2 axle ports... I would praise you! ... but I can't imagine a motor small enough to fit that size though... http://brickset.com/sets/containing-part-6094053
  5. Definitely need a rail-UFO lol
  6. I don't think you need THAT much capacitance to bridge the split-second connectivity gaps that coaster's wheelset would undoubtedly experience. I did a brief experiment a while ago that ran into contact issues between motor & track. I think that these could have been solved if there was a capacitor or two in place, ensuring that the PF receiver was fed a constant voltage & current: It works (theoretically) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr In the photo, I have a gutted 9V motor supplying power to a modified PF receiver that is controlling a PF train motor with BBB medium drivers attached.
  7. If his coach is around 500 pieces like my own, It could be anywhere from 60 to 80 usd depending on the color scheme and whether you want 'train' windows or 'square' windows. I 'bit the bullet' and ordered enough parts to make 5 coaches... the irony being that the majority of my engines can only pull 2 or 3 of them.
  8. I'm working on one in light bley with dark bley trim. Probably won't be done until xmas though....
  9. I think these are the most important to develop first: Cross Track 3-way switch Wye-switches Narrow gauge switch Narrow gauge Cross Cross Track in both 45 and 90 degrees would definitely sell quickly& easily. 3-way Switches could be either the ambidextrous 'w' style or the 'cactus' style. Narrow Gauge items are interesting, and I would appreciate a non brick-built solution. (12v curved track is hard to come by) I feel that dual-guage track is too complicated for it's own good though...
  10. I know that it's being used as a detail element, but I can't shake the idea of some poor minifig trying to desperately hold onto the side of this magnificent coach for dear life until......
  11. coaster-- I'd say PF switches for the win! PF track in general is easier to modify than 9v, and with a bit of copper tape, anyone can electrify their PF tracks! I also agree with Phoxtane that you should probably focus on more... exotic track elements. I've had an idea swirling about in my head consisting of a "flexible" cross track piece that could transition from a 90 degree position to a 45 degree position, and any other angles between. Sounds crazy, but kinda cool right?
  12. Yeah, it'll probably be something small, which is unfortunate. But, I could be wrong...
  13. L-Motor Block Types by Nick Jackson, on Flickr Just for anyone still reading this thread, I'd like to present the three variations to my L-motor Block: Green for speed, Blue for Balance, and Red for Torque. Hope you enjoy these!
  14. I just watched Jangbrick's video too! Already, I've started to compose my own "Counter Christmas Train" that will use an m-motor and 4-wide track... coming soon...
  15. I think it might be a conspiracy to make sure that we end up with tons of curved tracks and only a handful of straights. In reality, I think TLG is hooked on packing curves&straights in sets of four-- notice how they're pinned together in a nice stack?
  16. Whoa I am really diggin that color scheme! (how do the troopers get in/out though?)
  17. It's nice that you got some delivered. But tell us/ show us how they actually look??
  18. What do you mean? I'd say that this WV train is a pretty radical departure from just about any other train released thus far. Just cause they go radical doesn't guarantee that it'll be good. Maybe next time TLG will go radically to the direction you're probably hoping for. That almost everyone was hoping for...
  19. Of course that's always an option, but you kinda missed the point... If the train sets being offered from TLG directly aren't attractive enough, how can they expect to sell more than a handful of copies except to the few "die-hard" fans like ourselves? It makes me think of the Fantastic Four movie franchise, where 20th Century Fox makes "something" every few years just to retain the rights to that franchise. Unfortunately for the fanbase, that "something" is more like a large waste of time and resources than an actually decent try at producing something that's worth their while. There are four main categories of people who purchase items under the 'trains' theme: new lego users (newbs), railfans (hobbyists), lego users (general admission), and lego trainheads (ppl on this forum). From a marketing standpoint, TLG should be making train sets that pander more to the 'newbs' and 'hobbyists' for the sake of increasing sales as well as the fanbase. If they would only take the time to make sets of a higher caliber than what's been released in the last two decades combined... Now would be the time to do so... But enough ranting fer now -- Did it occur to anyone else that we might be getting ripped of in terms of the Large train wheels? Think about it -- in the teaser image (which is still lingering out there on the internet) -- the locomotive is shown to be a 4-2-0, which means that there are only 2 large drivers... And if the part's mold consists of two flanged and two blind, we'd only be getting 3 large wheels... And that's another potential gripe to ad to the list, if I'm right...
  20. Oh wow I had just left a comment on that thread a few hours ago before its removal...! I'm not sure how seeing it from a different angle will change most people's opinions... It's certainly not a piece of modern art. Anyways, good set or not, I'll buy 1-2 to show support for the WV & train themes. It's nice to see the return of red wheels, though I feel TLG missed an opportunity to make red 9v wheels... Those pictures better be racy!
  21. Same here... While I honestly think it looks like ____, I will still buy at least one copy in a show of support for the WV & Train themes.... What I'm really curious about is whether or not the set includes 6 Large drivers in red? This'll be the first time we've gotten red train wheels since the Toy Story train. So, thatsa good thing, right? My main gripe was that the train wasn't done in narrow gauge....... Lastly, why is this set labelled "Expert"...? Surely they jest...?
  22. Now this is awesome to see! I just found a micromotor in my collection... but I don't remember it sounding more like a buzzer than a motor...? Is it b/c the motor is so small?
  23. *some of us* don't have the luxury of a significant other just yet so................. Back to the drawing board I guess...
  24. I'd recommend that the cutting tool be metal, or maybe a teflon-coated something? If I have the time, I'll try to come up with a brick-built rig of some sort that would allow for a constant, even pressure on the blade & groove...
  25. I'm with Rob; why hasn't TLG made something, even as small as a passing mention, to year 50 of trains? Why Lego, why? Not sure how long I can stay single & child-less in anticipation of the next mouth-wateringly good offering in the trains theme. (that is also not duplo) I don't want to have a 'dark age' or 'eclipse' where I stop lego-ing in my spare time, and start adult-ing all the time......... :(
