Thanks kabel! I remember you saying you got to travel some in Mexico/Central America. I've only seen a few, smaller sites in Cozumel. Let me know next time you're in the area, we'll meet up and finally have those cervezas fria! Thanks! I appreciate it! Thanks Slegengr, I thought the SNOT water was a nice touch! Thanks Bonaparte! Yes, hopefully we'll see more historical builds from this side of the world! Funny thing about history in the Americas is that it is very relative - a friend of mine in Germany lives in a family home which was built right about the time El Castillo was finished... I took this photo outside on a really cloudy day - unfortunately, my skills with artificial lighting are virtually non-existent. I'm glad you like the angle - I took photos from many angles and this one was the last pic I took. Thanks Ecc, that means a lot coming from one of my all time favorite builders. And I absolutely agree with you on the building techniques. There is such an 'arms race' among LEGO builders to introduce new techniques and continually go over the top in detail. When, like you said, that's completely unnecessary. I've definitely adopted a style of building that many would label fairly simple while focusing more on composition and color. That hurts my brain less than trying to figure out some of those more advanced styles (like building trees from axes - I'll never understand it!). I dare say I see a comeback of the old fashioned building among castle builders. I see fewer and fewer of the DC/Cesar style of castle building - which is a great style, but was quickly and excessively adopted by many builders, very few of whom could pull it off like they did. Thanks Garm! You are 100 percent on target - cloudy days for the win! Thanks Faladrin! Please don't feel discouraged - if anything, use it as inspiration or, hell, copy the design and change it up a bit, I don't care! In fact I would be flattered! Thanks Klaus! I have another pic or two on my Flickr, I should have shared them here too. Not really much of an interior to speak of. Thanks Ellisss! I was thinking of the Adventurers a lot as I built this. One of my favorite all time LEGO series for sure! I appreciate it dude! Thanks! Thank ya! Thanks a ton! Thank you for looking! Thanks obelix! I was torn between going with the jungle or a field around the pyramid (like at Chichen Itza). It had been a while since I built anything jungly, so I went with that! I love me some classic LEGO islanders! Thanks Dazz! You're not the only one - I had several suggest this was actually a render! I think this would be easier to build in real life than digitally! Thanks so much! I hope you had an awesome time! Thanks a ton!

[MOC] CCC14 - Clarendon Castle
MassEditor replied to Mark of Falworth's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Exquisite, stunning, epic, gorgeous... I could use every adjective in the dictionary and it would not be enough to describe this piece of art. Once again you prove your supremacy in this theme. An inspiration to all! -
Naturally, most people look to the Old World when reflecting upon history’s greatest architectural achievements. The Pyramids of Giza, the Colosseum, the Forbidden City, Angkor Wat – these structures are forever etched into our understanding of human culture and history. Perhaps not as well known are the ancient and impressive sites in Central and South America. I built this Mesoamerican pyramid as a tribute to this wonderful architectural legacy, some of which I have been fortunate enough to see in person. This temple is based loosely on “El Castillo” in Chichen Itza, Mexico, whose construction began in the eighth century.

**Book II Challenge V Official Announcment**

My oh my, this dark and glorious day has finally arrived! @EcclesiastesWicked poster design! -
When Gunman comes back, he comes back in style! Stupendous build, the gatehouse and adjoining wall cuts a fearsome profile! The stonework is unique and looks great. And, of course, typical Gunman NPU on display here. I doubt I'll ever stop being amazed by the uses you find for some pieces!

This is too cool, we don't see enough of this style of vessels but Nocturnus is the perfect place to see them! Ingenious design, the curved top looks awesome. Fantastic looking swamp as always.

My goodness, a truly capital build! Such lovely architecture and rockwork, and I really dig the irregular base. It'll take many views to truly appreciate all the details, but some quick highlights are the bridge with white turntables on their side, the whole throne room scene and the brick-built domes. And I can't say enough how well composed the build is. The first pic in particular shows how epic this is. I would have to agree with Kai that a lighter background (particularly white) would have done a bit better job highlighting the colors
-
Really wonderful build, the elven architecture is pulled off flawlessly here. The landscaping looks great too. I've tried to mix dark green and olive green for a landscape but it never looked quite right to me. You however have done a great job with it. Using dark green as the base color and olive as the accent works really well (I have always tried the opposite, which doesn't ). Great build and entry!

Love that first pic with the projectile hurling itself towards the doom of the Byzantines! Excellent siege piece!
-
Another top-notch build from you, so much to appreciate here. The colors, composition and details really blend into something special here. Using dark bley on the canal walls to simulate wet stone is a brilliant touch, and one I am sure to steal. The little dock is such a cool detail. And the two heavy guards just waiting to be double assassinated - perfect!
-
Absolutely wicked scene Mark! You did an awesome job decorating those elephants, the gold trim on the tusks is an exceptional detail. Enough of LoR, when are we going to get you in GoH??

I had all four guilds represented at a recent event (SpaCon) in Hot Springs, Arkansas, in which my LUG participated. My area is the black table cloth. Sorry for the swirl, not ready for you to see that one just yet! I can't wait for Kai to get his poster design finished so I can print one up and display it at my LUG's shows. Pretty much everyone assumed it was Game of Thrones, Doctor Who or World of Warcraft. When I told them I hadn't watched or played those things, they typically looked at me as if I was an idiot.

Woah Kai, she's a beaut! Love that brickbuilt hull and the colors are great. Lovely photography, you found some really good angles and shots. Definitely a new fav from you. Need to check over here more often!
-
Classic Avalonia, looks fantastic! Love the landscaping and house and tree designs. Very clever stuff!
-
Great looking build dG! Love all those rooms, I could easily get lost inside those barracks. The woodwork really stands out here. Love the liveliness, and that dragon emblem on the exterior. Good to see you back, and just in time for Ch. V!

Retribution [Book II, Chapter V: Prelude, Part IV]
MassEditor replied to MassEditor's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks everyone! @Henjin_Quilones Thanks Henjin! Good to be worried, the Dark Lord is one bad hombre! I added a lighter overall pic, hopefully the details will stand out a little better. @Niku Haha, really glad you're enjoying it my friend! No moc machine, just a lot of used up sick and vacation days! Actually, I had this (and several other of these builds) built earlier this year and even in late 2015. They've been collecting some serious dust! You know Raavage, he is just good like that! @LordDan Thanks, quite the intermission! @Gideon Thanks! Have to admit, I probably took around 200 photos (many with the wife helping by blowing the fog in a certain direction) to get two or three good ones. The smoke really plays tricks with the lighting. Also, thanks for pointing out that problem! -
Hell yeah!

Another starfighter, this time a little more alien-y! Certainly no Vic Viper, but perhaps a cheap baddie that can be easily and endlessly killed by one! The NoVVember challenge was definitely an inspiration for this. The Mandible-Class Starfighter is an alien vessel capable of both atmospheric and interstellar operations. Pilotless, the Mandible is controlled through the alien hivemind but can also behave autonomously if connection is severed. Multiple weapon systems allows the Mandible to engage a both light and heavy targets. Furthermore, the fighter is capable of acting in an anti-capital ship role. Using its claw-like wings, the Mandible attaches to a large vessel and overloads its antimatter engines, creating an enormous explosion. (Thanks for looking, feedback always appreciated!)

Never Look Back [Book II, Chapter V: Prelude, Part III]
MassEditor replied to MassEditor's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks everyone! And wow, is the quote/multiquote function on the new Eurobricks awkwards and frustrating to use! Good to see you again mrcp6d! I expect your LEGO collection to be sorted and in shipshape for the challenge! Thanks Gideon! I'm using water in my fog machine, leaves no residue behind. The water vapor isn't quite as dramatic and is tricky to photograph though. -
No one spoke as they entered Lord Vladivus' throne room. Each of the six men raced through thoughts of the tremendous task that lay before them. To the outsider, this meeting would have appeared unexceptional, perhaps no different than one of the usual economic or political conferences held here. But to the trained eye, the identity of the men in this meeting place indicated something more serious was underway. Besides Lord Vladivus, the leaders of most of Free Nocturnus were present: Anzar of the Dragon Masters; Lord Jorrith, the vampiric warlord; Osric the Rat, fresh from his victories fighting for the Desert King in Kaliphlin; Gal-Turok, Lord of the Reach; and the Black Spire defector Anfauglir. Getting these leaders together had been no easy task. These six men stood as the bulwark between Raavage and the complete enslavement of Nocturnus. As host to these disparate commanders, the task of creating a unified resistance fell on Lord Vladivus' shoulders. Vladivus surveyed the group and spoke. "Gentlemen, you have all heard the rumors: the forces of the Black Spire are again marching to war. But these are more than rumors. Reports from the frontier suggest the Black Spire is raiding our lands, enslaving our people and killing any who resist. They seek to crush the last holdouts of resistance to Raavage's domination. Unless the forces of Free Nocturnus unite, I'm afraid we are doomed." Several figures in the room shifted and mumbled. Although they could all agree that Raavage was the biggest threat facing Nocturnus, they shared little else in common. Trust was a hard thing to come by these days, when betrayal and treachery were everywhere. Gal-Turok was the first to speak up. "Aye, on this point I won't disagree. But how do you expect us to stop Raavage when you invite the enemy into our planning?" He turned and glared at Anfauglir. Vladivus held up his right hand. "I will attest to Lord Anfauglir, a guest invited freely into my home, just like yourself, Gal-Turok. He no longer shares fealty to the Black Spire." Anzar stepped forward. "Gal-Turok, let me also attempt to ease your doubt. It was Anfauglir who saved me at Lagash-Ur, and he took great risk in doing so. He seeks to topple the Obsidian Spike, as we all do." Another voice rose up. "Ha! It was only recently that your mouth no longer tasted Raavage's largesse." It was Osric, who had remained silent until now. He wore a golden shied and sword given to him by the Desert King for his victories in Kaliphlin. "Word I've heard suggests members of your family - your brother, Tanzar, in fact - still fight for the Black Spire. What say you to this?" Anzar turned to glare at Osric. "To think I journeyed this far to explain myself to a rat! But to address your allegations, I would say what you hear is wrong. The truth is, our relationship deteriorated after the death of our father. It has been many months since we have spoken, but I know he would never pledge allegiance to that dog Raavage. The Dragon Masters will never forget Raavage's trickery. Nor we will stop fighting until his head is on a pike outside my father's castle." Vladivus shook his head. The resistance was threatening to crumble before it even formed. "The fight is out there, not in here! If we do not stop the Black Spire, the other Guilds will invade Nocturnus and attempt to do so themselves. We cannot let that happen." The room fell silent as Vladivus spoke. "Perhaps there is one thing that will help you make up your minds. It is why I asked you to temporarily leave your lands and meet here in person. Anfauglir has shared with me some grave news that you must all know." Vladivus motioned for Anfauglir to address the others. Anfauglir scanned the room before speaking. "Even before the events of Lagash Ur, I had learned that Raavage was seeking an immensely powerful artifact. After defecting I received information no the location of the map. My lieutenant, Samarkand, left some weeks ago to retrieve it. During his absence Lord Vladivus and I believe we have discovered the nature of this artifact. The revelation is most concerning." Everyone had their eyes locked on Anfauglir. Raavage sought any vile creation he could use to his advantage. What had he found now? "We believe he is looking for the Necromancer's Helm." Gal-Turok threw his head back and laughed. "Now you've really gone mad, believing in bedtime stories!" Anfauglir continued. "I wish it was true, but this is no wild guess. You all know the stories: the Elemental Helm was found and nearly brought all of Historica under Raavage's rule. Now he seeks the Necromancer's Helm, which potentially wields much greater power… the power to raise a legion of undead soldiers." Again Gal-Turok objected. "Although I trust Lord Vladivus' judgement and I accept this alliance, I have trouble believing such fancies. I for one cannot waste time here talking any longer when we must bring battle to Raavage. He can raise his undead army if he wants to, it will be more foes for my men to crush!" Vladivus spoke before Anfauglir could respond. "You are right, Gal-Turok, the time to wait is over. We must retaliate now and everywhere we can. If Raavage thinks he has found the Necromancer's Helm, we must stop him before he gets to it. The most important thing is that we fight together, a resistance united against Raavage." Osric turned to the group. "My sword fights with Lord Vladivus and you, leaders of Free Nocturnus. Together we shall drive Raavage back to the netherworld!" Vladivus looked at Anfauglir. "You must find out what happened to Samarkand and the status of the map." He then turned towards the others. "And you, leaders of Free Nocturnus, you must leave here and continue to build the resistance. The people of Nocturnus must know they do not fight alone."

Thanks a lot for the kind words! @Bob De Quatre Look forward to seeing it! We could always use another good man in Nocturnus! @Slegengr Thanks! GoH will always be my bread and butter! Glad you liked the VTOL engines on the wing, that was very much a last minute addition!

What an awesome Christmas scene, warms my heart after a couple of very depressing days for my country... Really though, you have packed an amazing amount of detail in here! Love the big family doing all kinds of Christmas activities, really brings this build to life. Each room is differently and wonderfully decorated. The outdoor details, trees, ice pond and truck are all nice touches too. That house, of course, is something else. Would love to see something like this in my LUG's upcoming winter display! Congrats on the frontpage, very well deserved!

Excellent drone, quite fearsome with those mandibles. The sculpting around the head, back and underside looks fantastic. Love the organic style to this!
