I do not think that smoking while disassembling a set puts such a hard smell of smoke to the bricks. I would rather think, that he had the set in a cabinet. Maybe even one with closed doors. Being a smoker myself (and I did something awful like smoking indoors in the past) I can tell you, that the smoke goes everywhere, every corner and through every groove. So over the time (the set is pretty old) a lot of smoke got into the cabinet, where it could hold and lay down on the bricks. Try washing off a cabinet in a smokers flat after years of smoking. You'll see how smoke lays on everything. Did you try to compare colors of those bricks from the set with newer parts? They might be a bit darker than the new bricks. At least I would assume that.

You could also try to put the Lego into a sealed bag with a small portion of coffee powder. At least in refrigerators it helps to erase a bad smell. Perhaps that helps.

Dark and dry doesn't mean, that it hasn't been hot ;) I would guess this is some wear of the plastic bags due to being stored with more than regular room temperature. But who knows.

As for #2: I have done this too. When you realize, that you had the piece in your hand while searching it for the last 15 minutes makes you really feel stupid. Being ashamed of yourself in such a moment is really bad. But having the piece is so relieving, so the bad feeling is most instantly neutralized. For #6: People do not actually understand that this is "work". Of course it is a lot of fun, but still, it it "work". It's not just ordinary building. When a grown man or woman chooses such a hobby, there of course flows a lot of time into it, but still this is something very different than just sitting in front of the tv and many people simply don't understand it is a hobby. Ask those people what they do in their free time.

I was sorting out the pieces for Crowkillers Porsche 997 GT3 last saturday. So I have this pile of connector pieces and was searching and searching and searching for a specific piece. I knew it was there, since I had especially bought this piece in the right amount through Bricklink. So I initially gave up because I got frustrated and went on with the other pieces. I eventually found the missing piece later. It was lying in the corner of the box cover I used for sorting out the needed pieces. I banged my head for not properly looking into the corners. I thought a while about this incident. And guess what: This is the most annoying thing I have with Lego sind I was a kid. I experienced this a thousand times already. I hope this to get better once I have finally moved and thus get a proper building area. Oh and another thing that is really freaking me out since I was a kid: When you try to build something and you go on and on and finally you realize you are missing one specific piece which you simply don't have. Usually not much of a problem nowadays, but 20 years ago, something like this was a huge problem. Though it still buggers me today, because you need to pause, see where you get the part, purchase it along with a bunch of other stuff which you carefully choose (because the shop has a minimum buy limit) and wait until it arrives.

Official Lego Instructions - Terrible Scans
Balrog replied to drofnas's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Depending on how they make the instructions originally, it wouldn't be that much of a problem to create SVGs from that. I don't know how TLG originally make the instructions, but I guess they could implement a proper export function to their tools easily. -
Looks very interesting and promising until now. Only thing that somehow disturbs me, is, that the front suspension arms seem to bend. More precise, the "axle and pin connector perpendicular 3L" with which you have mounted those new steering hubs. In my noobish opinion they should be reinforced a bit more. That one 5L beam to hold the distance seems to not be enough.

That's a cool one. And pretty fast as well. I like it. -

Video quality wasn't too good either. But it still was somehow interesting to watch. -
42009 now at Rebrickable

It's the 64680. It's just the wrong panel, plus including it to my BL wanted list gave me an error. It should be the counterpart for 64683 or not? -

Something seems off with the item number for the L motor, as well as for one panel. I couldn't add these items with the others to my BL wantedlist. The mould for the red 8T gear is the same as for the dbg 8T gear. It's is a new mold and the gears cannot slip into the recessive rim on liftarms, thus staying in position. -

I am missing roundabout 500 parts. I put the missing parts into my wishlist to check prices. At the seller who has the most different parts that I am missing, I would still need to buy for 160 euros to get complementing parts for the model. Unfortunately, I would still be missing a lot of parts then. -
I have purchased 9395 a few weeks ago for discount on Amazon. That made a price per piece ratio of nearly 5 cent per piece, which is an awesome value. I enjoyed building both models as well. Though, you are right, the A-model definately has the better looks. In the B-model the cabin of the truck is too narrow. It should be higher. When I first saw the B-model on pictures I thought it would be pretty stupid to always have the lift on the side of the truck. What should that be good for. I didn't know that you can turn it to the back, so this function makes sense after all. But I didn't realize that until I saw a video on YouTube before I built it. Buildtime was rather the same for me. I disassembled the A-model on the evening before, roughly sorting the pieces while disassembling and did a little more granular sorting before building. In the end, I like the whole set. The A-model is pretty good if you ask me. Even the lever linkage works well, at least it did for me. In some review they mentioned it would be a bit sloppy. The B-model works good as well and was a very enjoyable build. I would even go so far to say, that the build itself was more interesting than for the A-model. But in the end it lacks the looks a bit. Overall, this is a must have. The regular price is already pretty cheap for the amount of parts. The functions are pretty good. It offers enough possibility for modding and it looks good on the shelf.

I guess we will have to wait for some clever modders that enhance 42009 with this functionality. And hopefully they provide instructions as well ;) -

But since both functions need the lever to be set in the same direction, there is no need for separate axles on the lever. Only for switching in the other direction, because if you only want to operate the outriggers, boom extension would work as well, which is bad. Only in case of wanted boom extension it wouldn't make any difference if power is transferred to the outriggers as well. So indeed two different mountpoints for the levers would be needed. But looking at how the axle for the lever is mounted, it shouldn't be too hard to modify it, so two levers could be mounted with axle pins. -

Now that you mentioned it, I can see it. But he could still dismount the tyre, turn it around and mount it again on the wheel.
