  1. Ah that is a good reason to disable this function. But ... ... as far as my knowledge and understanding to databases goes, I can only assume, that you are having MOCs and Sets in different tables anyway. Else you would have to flag each set and MOC differently and use that flag to differentate between them for the statistics or not? Shouldn't it then be possible to give even more extensive and different statistics to the pieces. Something like in my example where it says that the piece occurs 14 times spread over 4 sets and then it says occurs a bazillion times in a bazillion MOCs followed by the list of MOCs?
  2. @technicmad: I have a feature suggestion. Currently, it is possible when watching the details of a part to display the sets where the part occured, even sorted by color. So I thought it would be cool to also show the MOCs where the part occured. For example here: http://rebrickable.com/parts/92908 When you scroll down you see the set numbers. Here could be a second "box" that shows the MOCs it appears in. I would expect this to not be a hard change. The data is there. I guess it is a simple additional database query, or not?
  3. That's a very good idea. It could really be allowed for any set of 2013 or it is limited it to sets below 100€ or above 100€ or some similar amount. I don't think, that a alternate model for one of those pullback racers could compete with a alternate for 42009. Still it should be possible and one could get just any set and participate.
  4. You could include a Afterburner or something like that. Batmobile style. But building a function like that from Lego parts ... well you'll find a way
  5. Or a Mini Contest with as much PF as possible
  6. Well in the case of a secret contest, it really might be better to forbid people to create WiP topics. Because then they could present them there and again everyone would see the entries before the entry deadline is over. The secret contest was just an idea that quickly developed in my mind. It is not fully thought through. It might have the advantage of getting new participants or to create some special excitement because nobody knows, what the other people have built. On the other hand it might be not so good a contest because of the missing intermediate fun whilst waiting for the deadline and results. I guess people (and I) like to look at the entries that are posted and discuss them perhaps. Might be, people give advices to participants to improve section xy by design and so on. Such a secret contest is basically announcing the contest with the theme, contest admin gets the entries, deadline, results and winner. It might be missing the fun in the middle. On the other hand, you could also say, that people are allowed to post a teaser picture of their entry that does not show the whole MOC, but only a little snippet of it. So people can discuss what it might be, but the whole MOC will still be secret as the participant may not tell.
  7. Oh this would be so good. Other sub-forums hold their contests in regular times. I guess there would be a lot of people to participate. Both contest ideas are cool. I basically love both approaches anyway. Something that is mostly limited in size or has parts restrictions encourages the creativity the most I think. Free-builds should not be entirely free I guess, but there the builder has the most freedom. For a start I would suggest some kind of mini-model contest like you proposed. That way you can get a feeling for how the participation rate is. Regarding rules, I guess you can get some inspiration from other sub-forums. Rules like: 1 entry per member, pictures should be posted here or there, picture size xy, entries may be modified until deadline and such. Though, I think it is stupid to allow model presentation for a large timeframe. Let's say you announce today a contest that will have it's final day on October 31st. People can post their creations from October 1st. Now everyone looks and finds other creations inspiring or takes ideas from them and there are usually a lot of early posters who definately get an advantage in the final vote (in my opinion). Posting creations should be retricted until the last week or so. Of course everyone will post their creations then at once, but there is then still a week to improve in some points, but until then the entries stay secret. That would make it way more exciting I think. Or make a completely secret contest. When I saw the Mini-VW Camper contest I looked at the entries and thought, I can never come up with something that can compete here or all good ideas are already made, so why even participate? With a all-secret contest, some other people might be encouraged to take part and take the chance to win. Regarding themes of the contest (like mini-contest or free-build) there are far more things than non-vehicle builds. Like the iron-builder contest. They decide on a part that must be creatively and usefully integrated into a MOC. Well that isn't too easy for Technic. The goal of a contest could be to integrate a specific mechanism in a most creative way (that does not fulfil the original purpose). Something like: Create a MOC that uses the Ackermann steering mechanism in way that has nothing to do with steering a car. Or: Create a xy-linkage driven by pneumatics and integrate it into a bigger mechanism/MOC. In contests like this, the goal would be more on the mechanism itself instead of just the looks (which could also be out of judgement then) and would reflect what Technic really stands for. So far for ideas :D If I should go more into detail, let me know.
  8. There are some LDD files for the different versions in my Brickshelf folder: Balrog's Brickshelf And there is a step-by-step picture guide in arthra08's Brickshelf (though only for the manual version): instructions
  9. Oh I already forgot to post the video :D Still have to compile some of the files. Beware, the front axle is not very optimal. If you find a proper solution, please let me know.
  10. Just a note: Even if the screen seems to be defect, you should still be able to get a free replacement through the TLG support. And if it still works, there is a big chance that it becomes defect in the near future.
  11. Hi Jan, regarding changes, you probably meant this site where you can purchase a parts upgrade pack: http://inanimatereason.com/shop/viewitem.php?item=NXT12KIT - Yes, - Yes you can update the brick with a firmware from lego.com - Afaik only the PC Software update is costly. Don't know about the price. - Read the changelog for differences in the firmware. - See link above for differences. - Yes, Windows 7 works. Though, I am not sure about 64bit. @Jim? You probably know better. - Should work with any BT stack, though different devices sometimes show different problems with connecting. You'll see when you have it. No Lego BT adapter is needed. - You should check if the display is working. When I got my NXT 8527 in used condition it worked fine. But after a while the display didn't work anymore whilst the brick itself worked fine. This is a known problem and TLG replaced the brick at no cost. This was just a year ago. - Here is what I did. Initially, I got 8527. Though, I felt the parts are not enough. I looked around and found someone on eBay who sold the complete parts from 8547, simply without software and electronic parts. Bazinga.
  12. Why not simply adding a public MOC with the partslist of the original set and deleting the parts there? Well I know this is stupid because the public MOC list would be cluttered with half-original sets, but something along these lines. @technicmad shouldn't it be reasonable to be able to add a private MOC to your set list? One could then simply add a private MOC to the set list, and alter the original parts list in there. Also this should be a lot less work for you than adding a feature where you can take the original set and alter the parts list there, since you can already add a public MOC to your set list.
  13. It is definately not needed. Does it even exist?
  14. I also don't think this is really about Lego, but much more that you don't want to be bothered by this guy. But I understand this, it's not easy.
  15. The most inspiration was to get a huge table But I think I need to make the shelf go around the corner, too. Along the wall. Two layers or so. Well, something for the future I'll let the building place evolve with the collection.
  16. Guys, I am so happy that it is finished, that I can't wait until I moved in to show you my soon-to-be working place. Here it is!! Thanks for watching. Leave a comment if you want.
  17. Well, it's a pretty good model if you ask me.
  18. Didn't realize that one, since my stickers of 9395 are still in the bag with the instructions which has not been opened.
  19. Did you check your spam folder?
  20. Sweet. I like the look of the uncolored wood and the construction. You have some skills there ;) Though, I like working areas like a computer desk rather with a good plain surface that is washable. I guess whatever your skin emits will be soaked into the wood surface soon.
  21. Well, I have to admit, that your working place was the biggest inspiration ;)
  22. Hey, I got a little update. The last thing I posted was about my computer sketches for my working place. It is currently taking shape and I hope to complete it tomorrow. Here is some interim footage with the shelf being completed -> Click me. Thanks for reading or any comments you might have on this.
  23. 8258 has it as a 1x6 sticker 8053 has it as a 1x8 sticker 8069 has it as 1x8 with yellow end as it seems And I also found 9398 to have 3 of them as 1x4.
  24. Those stickers work well as license plates. Or whatever you want to use them for :D
