  1. Gee, you can really learn a lot from Sariel's book. It is truly worth it to get back into Lego Technic. He describes mostly every chapter you might want to know something about and also describes a lot of different mechanisms and has a lot of example builds for suspensions, drivetrains, linkages, PF use, studless vs. studful and so on.
  2. @Paul it's 2 times. Both black axle pins stuck in two Bionicle teeth. Both have a lot of friction. I also tried to separate them by pushing an axle. I even tried it with the newer kind of brick separator to have a better grip. But it is very hard to keep the bionicle tooth in a fixed position.
  3. Sorry to bring this thread up again, but surely I am not the only one to have the problem. I chose to build my Vampire GT in black. Therefore I even ordered some of the infamous black axle pins. For the side mirrors, these muss be inserted into black Bionicle Teeth. But, they went in pretty hard and I wasn't able to pull them apart again. Does somebody who built the Vampire GT in black have a hint on how to disassemble these two parts? Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi Gee, welcome to the forum. I fully understand how hard it is to get back into Technic. I got back just something over a year past. Before that I mostly bought regular Lego, but since then I am totally hooked to Technic. So far, to get back and learn the techniques, I have mostly kept to building other peoples MOCs from instructions and normal sets. To supplement my parts I have used Bricklink. Up until now, I have completed a series of models and some directly got minor changes from me, mostly cosmetic. I have not created something entirely myself, but I have made some bigger modifications on the MB Trac I build, converting it to have power functions and just now I am making Nico's Trophy Truck with CVT to be a manual MOC. Until now, my progress was rather satisfying to me.
  5. Hi Nico, I made a conversion of your Trophy Truck with CVT. I made it manual and included some other things instead of the CVT and PF. I included the 4-speed transmission of your Pro-Truck, seats, a V6 fake-engine and HOG-steering (though the HOG is not yet available here). The model is still 4x4. This is still the first iteration. I just thought, since this is originally your creation, I could post my sneak-peek here. The plan is to make a digital model now, then disassemble, re-work the center of the chassis with the transmission and steering, then re-build with a more reinforced chassis, slightly softer springs and some other changes, which I already though about. First of all will be a change of the gear ratio. I kept the original ratio in the portal hubs. But pushing it around in 1st and 2nd gear is really bad and not working very well.
  6. I still have some non-technic sets unopened. Basically it's the Minecraft Nether set and the Cuusoo DeLorean. Didn't have the proper motivation yet. Though they would be a nice one hour timefiller each.
  7. Today Eurobricks - tomorrow the world! Congratulations. Keep up the good work.
  8. As long as I have fun building stuff and have ideas for creations or modifications, I will not stop building with Lego. Of course, time is a big factor for such a hobby, but currently I have enough time for it and it is a good change to my other hobbies which are mostly related to computers. Also, when I am deep into building and thinking about a construction or mechanism, I tend to forget time, which in the end is good for my health because I forget to go outside for a smoke and bad for my health because I easily forget to drink. Well who cares. Also, I have finally a respectable collection of mostly Technic and enough parts to build most of what I want to build. I invested quite some time and money this year buying spare parts for the MOCs I want(ed) to build and am very happy with it. Also, looking into the future, I guess I will not lose interest in Lego for quite some time. Great new sets coming out every year and no kids I need to invest in
  9. I love your reviews! Especially if your rogue hamster go wild with Lego!
  10. And my girl let's me put my models on my shelf in the living room. And she doesn't argue when getting a new set or new parts. Though no help from her ;) Regarding Technic at work. I don't have anything constantly at work. My desk is pretty full and I don't have a separate office. But from time to time I bring some models to work. I often have my orders delivered to my office (because I am there over the day obviously) and of course my boss often is curious what I got this time. And he is a very technical guy, so he is interested in Lego Technic as well if it crosses his way. And his son is also in the right age for that and is usually impressed a lot and likes to play a bit then.
  11. Your trophy truck performs pretty good. At least on solid ground. I wonder how it performs on a dirt track. I think I finally need to get some PF remote equipment and some more motors.
  12. This is huge. I hope you will be able to finish your project. Also, I had to laugh when watching the second video. Your vehicle is losing parts :D
  13. That's what I would really call "learning through pain". A lesson that every child should learn at some point. Now lapidate me
  14. I'd rather not cut on features like resolution. Get something that can record Full HD now. Believe me, you're gonna bite your megablocks if you don't. When I bought my DSLR I went the cheepskate way and bought a Nikon without video recording functions. I could still kick myself for that.
  15. Yes, the axles were left over from books 1-3.
  16. My spare parts look similar. Except I don't have any towball pins left. And on this picture, the second 32L acle is not shown. I wondered as well, why there are so many axles left over. Perhaps they are needed in the B-model. I am not sure yet. But I am pretty sure, I didn't miss placing them in the model.
  17. Yay More Uncharted
  18. Thanks You could also call it my nerd-shelf
  19. A little headsup on my current display. Nothing too fancy, but I really love my shelf One of our cats decided to contribute as well.
  20. I might have an idea that would make the second stage more stable. Something like a rail which has a counter-"hook" below the first stage. But, that would require a open center of the first stage bottom. And that in consequence would make the first stage unstable and is likely impossible to build because of the mountpoint for the LAs. I guess if one could build it (like it is in my head) and make it stable enough, that would make the first stage at least a lot more massive.
  21. Ah I see what you mean in the picture. I guess the problem lies withing the flat bottom of the second stage and that being just held in place by a single gear. There must be a lot of friction on the gear and gearrack at this moment. No easy task to improve that! Thanks for the detailed answer. Your english is well enough I would say.
  22. Jim: The crane is definately worth building. I didn't even get bored for a second. afol1969: thanks for the instructions. I'll store them as well for now. I don't think I have enough panels (since 8 of the new curved panels are needed) nor in the correct colors ;) How stable ist this boom compared to the original boom when fully extended? E.g. how wobbly, stiff or easy to bend is it?
  23. Good, that you got it sorted out.
  24. No. You just have to pull out the 16L axles that turn the gears for the actuator. Take a look at the building instructions to see which ones are the wrong way, pull the axle, place the half bevel gear correctly and insert the 16L axle again. The axle will go hard though, so take care. See: Book 2 Step 93 & 94 Book 3 Step 106 & 107 Basically, the bevel gear needs to be on the left side of all 4 actuators when looking at the model from the top in the direction of driving.
