[HELP] 42009 Outriggers
Balrog replied to Dr3's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
When I built mine, I accidently put one of the tan half bevel gears the wrong way on the 16L axle where the actuator is mounted, resultin in exaxtly the same. I could turn the axle for 1 or 2 turns and the it stopped because on actuator want to retract rather than extend. -

New issues with Lego's Legal Department...
Balrog replied to Paul Boratko's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am not sure, but wasn't there something about transmitting the copyright for Cuusoo submitted models to TLG? Need to read the EULA egain. edit: Just looked that up, it's just the production and marketing rights that are transferred to TLG. -
Horror Stories - Lego you bought off flea-bay and BL
Balrog replied to DrJB's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I personally did not have too bad experiences yet. Usually I only buy new sets from Amazon and only sometimes from eBay. If I buy spare parts, I use Bricklink. When I did my first BL order, I received a part wrong. I instantly contacted the seller and got the correct part and was allowed to keep the wrong sent part. When I ordered some 1x1 trans clear plates from a seller I received 1 or 2 in the batch that were no Lego parts. But that was something not major enough to complain about, though I notified the seller. This summer, I decided to get 8458 and 8466. I eventually bid high enough and received 8458 for a good price. I contacted the seller and he offered me to send 8466 in good condition as well (for a price of course). The seller stated these models were just built once and then were displayed in a cabinet. 8466 was in excellent condition. All stickers were fine except for those marking the gears. Although it was very dusty, so it was rather on a shelve than in a cabinet or it was plainly true. The parts didn't have any visible dents or anything, just dust. 8458 on the other side was only a little dusty, stickers are all in great shape. But, when I disassembled it, I found some oddities. Two of the bent liftarms that were used were in the wrong color (which wasn't obvious from the complete model). Also a good portion of the 2L black pins was obviously newer than the rest (more matte than shiny). And some parts had little dents. That made me think, that the set was at least at some point in its history disassembled and part of a collection. Though, when it was last assembled, at least the parts seemed to have been clean, because the dust was reasonably spread and no dust under connections. All in all I was still satisfied of both, because all needed parts were there except for the spare parts. -
MB Trac - German tractor
Balrog replied to Balrog's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for your response. My initial goal was to make a version of arthra08's MB Trac with power functions. The steering and axles are his original design. I was trying to improve the front axle, but every combination I came up with wasn't stable enough. I even purchased some rare and expensive LA connectors to achieve this, but the only "good solution" was to widen the wheelbase which was against the proportions of the tractor. I though about portal axles, too. But that would have made it a lot more complicated and I doubt I could have come up with a good solution. Tinkering around with portal axles on such a narrow wheelbase seems very unrealistic to me anyway. If we had bigger wheels, we could simply scale up the whole thing and make it work. Perhaps with the PP wheels. Could be worth a try. I also thought about making a lime green version. That would be a lot more authentic. But at that time I didn't have the parts nor the ambitions to order all needed beams and connectors through BL. Even today, I am not sure if the needed parts are all available in lime green. And, currently the MB Trac isn't even assembled anyway, so I am not really eager to try and improve it more. -

Do you have some pictures of your changes? That would be nice. I know about the issue with the wheels touching the chassis. More concerning would be, if your front axles do bend as mine did. Or if you found a solution to that apart from increasing the width of the axle. -

Oh damn ... this is a absolute must-build! Unfortunately I don't have the necessary electric components. But it should be possible to make a "manual" version ...- 195 replies

I think it looks good for a midi scale car. Except for the wheels which are definately to small for the scale. -

I can only think of these as custom made pieces, but not as original pieces. -

That is something, that only Technicmad can tell us. If he wants to, of course.
