Efferman's Custom Parts
Richard Dower replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Effer....can you make this part in different configs?.....such as a minus - design and plus + design. also....how about angles such as #3 #4 #5 #6 ? -

i remember my very first technic build, it was 9395....i remember being stunned at the amount of parts! i emptied the bags into the empty box and being shell shocked at how many parts there were and wondering how the hell i was going to put this thing together! no joke, it took me 24 hours to build that set, constantly looking at the instructions, measuring the axles and beams, checking pin placement etc. now over 2 years later i find myself building sets at lightning pace!...i can take a quick glance at the building step and can find the axle or beam no problem without checking anything, i know the parts now...i know what a 1x11 beam looks like, the position of the holes, the length of axle etc. in many ways it seems i now build TOO fast!, the build buzz does not last as long :-( in some ways i like to revert to those innocent days, how about you guys?

just a heads up, in case you guys have not purchased....several technic sets are marked as EOL and will be discontinued in january, so its best to treat yourself to an xmas prezzie :-) if they actually were Blue parts that would be great!...but they are not, bloody light turquoise....a usless colour that you will never reuse in MOCs because there is not enough parts in that colour. i would have prefered normal Blue or even the Light blue colour so as we would have more parts in that shade of blue. 100% agree on 42050...ugly set, badly designed, useless functions....a waste of decent parts. 42039....disagree, should you can do modding and add stuff, but the finished product is still great....but the prelim model was way better.

3 sets are listed as retiring and a few more are out of stock....one can assume these will be all discontinued soon. so i guess its time for profiteers to stock up and charge 5 times the original retail values of these sets in the years to come....... http://shop.lego.com/en-IE/catalog/productListing.jsp?_requestid=13709739

i have a slight mod suggestion....the rear cargo door uses part # 32184 in LBG....would it not be better to use white connectors here? just purely for colour cordination and from the side view below you it would look better

same here in Ireland....besides, Lego City is intended for young children (even though AFOLs post here) so there should be no valid reason to include weapons.
-
i voted no, TLG would take alot of flack from certain groups if they included weapons as these are toys intended for young children. it is not worth the PR headache it would create.....

Sariel posted a video review/speed build of the B model for the combo 42046/42047 pullback sets: https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/r/www/r/service/-/media/franchises/customer%20service/technic/42046-47_digital.pdf?l.r2=-1078299849

i **finally** bought 42028, it will be 2 years in January since release and the model is no longer listed on the lego shop i was worried that the set would be discontinued. i have focused most of my time/money on older Technic sets, but i really loved both the A and B of 42028....so i bought 2 sets :-) it was also reduced to 32 Euro and i got free shipping on buying 2 sets :-) i am saving these babies for Christmas day as it looks like there is not much on the telly.

This small set has been on my radar for some time, but certain unique parts eluded me, recently i bought a lot of parts that finally garnered me those rare 1x6 and 1x7 thin liftarns in Red, after that it was just a matter of using my large parts stockpile to part out...i had everything :-) i like both the A and B, plan to build both...though i think both models are too similiar to each other in build and design. there does not appear to be a review of this set on EB, as such does anyone have any thoughts/opinions on the set they might want to share? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=8283-1 http://lego.brickinstructions.com/lego_instructions/set/8283/Front-End_Loader

[REVIEW] 42038 - Arctic Truck
Richard Dower replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Jim/anyone....i built this set a few days ago, i dont like the way the crane arm section has no knob to turn the mini turntable. you see the 20 tooth gear?....there is a pinhole located next to this....i would like to add something here to make it easier to turn the winch section. -

a few more reviews: -
yeah...add a rubber layer to the thread surface, maybe its not techincally possible with the manufacturing process lego uses? though i have deffo seen products that did have a rubber surface on top of plastic.

the brick show has a review of the fortrex...and those new black rubber parts for the tank threads are confirmed. these should make it alot easier to move the tracks on a smooth surface. i built 42038 a few days ago and it was impossible to make the vehicle roll along...the only good surface was carpet because it gives grip/friction.

[REVIEW] 42050 - Drag Racer
Richard Dower replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
yeah....i thought this set would be 70 Euro because of the tumbler wheels. at least over time the prices on bricklink will come down a bit due to having more stock from a cheaper set. -
