    Scooby-Doo 2015 Rumours & Discussion

Nothing really to add here that hasn't already been said, other than I would be very disappointed if this theme didn't continue with another run of sets. When these were first released, I kind of rolled my eyes; I saw Scooby Doo growing up, but even I recognized all the flaws of the Hanna Barbera - 1970s animation machine (cookie cutter plots, recycled animation cells, etc.) But then I got hooked on the Mystery Incorporated show (from 2011-2013) on Cartoon Network. That of course has been replaced by Be Cool Scooby Doo (which isn't as good or bizarre). These characters have a permanent place in the cultural zeitgeist - but it makes you wonder if it's being done justice on a frequent enough basis to remain consistently relevant. I will be happy with this limited run regardless.

    MOC: 8-bit Tina Belcher

You know a show has earned a permanent place in the cultural zeitgeist when it's been LEGO-fied. :) Your work is a great tribute to a great, bizarre, wonderful show.

    Speed Champions Alternates

I heart that Gallardo. Is it based on the same platform as your other mods?
  4. I acquired some lovely dark orange 6071236: Brick W. Bow 2X4 in a recent LUG draft - For reference, http://brickset.com/parts/6071236 Altogether, they would make a lovely carriage roof for my Daylight to haul. Any suggestions on a real-life livery that would incorporate a dark orange roof (?). This GWR coach styling would look nice with dark brown, tan or white windows, and the dark orange roof: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:GWR_coach_E164_BCK_7377.jpg I appreciate any suggestions or reference photos. I neglected to mention, I also got a fair number of the inverse 1x4 bricks with bows in dark orange as well - which I could use on the bottom. Just need some nice colors inbetween. http://brickset.com/parts/6065039
  5. The Illinois traction company example is perfect. Dark orange on bright orange? Looks to be worth an attempt. Thank you. I had been thinking passenger, but this hopper example is great. Thank you!

    Amtrak Cascades.

It was great to see this at the National Train Show. Great model and great representation of a train I'm fond of too.

    10249 Winter Toy Shop

I tend to think people glommed on too quickly the ''complete'' the WV quote - it just seemed off the cuff. But still an interesting theory. Sales would speak louder than customer feedback. But if they truly take customer feedback serious, they're getting their behinds handed to them on this one. Would have been better to just skip a year entirely, then return the following year with a bang - sales for the pent-up demand would have been huge.

    10249 Winter Toy Shop

This is kind of a third release, isn't it? I recall the original was available in 2009 (or 2008); it sold out pretty quickly. But then had a second run the following year, but in a slightly smaller/redesigned box. So not technically a re-release, but a second production run. I missed the first run, so I bought an overpriced first run copy, then kicked myself when they did the second production run the following year. This re-release is definitely a half-a**ed re-hash - yeah, sure, you get some new colors, a few new prints; LEGO corporate gets to move some more of that orange and purple jester hat from the CMF series; people who missed the first (and second!) runs get their chance; those who value these as collectibles are disappointed; those holding on to copies of the first run are disappointed as the value plummets; those who bought the first ones second-hand at inflated prices are pissed, etc. etc. Interesting and controversial move by LEGO that may be the death blow to the Winter Village series.

Is this something you'd consider posting the instructions for?

    3 X 60050 & 1 X 7937 or 2 & 2? Station opinions . . . .

With both of these sets, you can actually combine (2) each and make it look a little more realistic - closed back, larger platform, etc. Ultimately, I don't like the color scheme of the 60050 as much. The tan is a little too uniform for my tastes. But ultimately, I'd like the overhang to extend out twice as much, and put a turnout. I might even swap out all the tan for another color and brighten it up a bit. The 7937 is a nice remake of the 7822. There are some fun MODs out there using multiple sets, but ultimately I agree with the other comments - LEGO designed train stations leave much to be desired, and really would benefit from a ground-up redesign. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/DmChylde/Trains/misc/train_7937_train_station.png&imgrefurl=http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic%3D77356&h=372&w=800&tbnid=yRxPmjkdh805VM:&zoom=1&docid=E22X2z293slmwM&ei=oeE_Vd6WH9WOsQTx34GACQ&tbm=isch&ved=0CDAQMygKMAo

    LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart review!

  14. Hello! Sorry to bump this - but the LDD file is no longer available at the link you provided. Could you re-post?

Large Railway Locomotive shed - open sided style

Very nice, practical shed. What pieces are used for the roof? When the larger LEGO pieces are used in abundance, that's where the details will stand out on a finished model - I can see adding a lot more detail to the inside to make the MOC really pop on a layout.
  16. That's quite the feat! Version 2 appears to be proportionally accurate to the 4460, but version 3 is more to LEGO scale (a little blunter, but not exceedingly so). I can see merits in both. Thank you for posting the LDD files. I built Sava's 4449 and modded it somewhat. It looks fantastic on a full-size layout, but not so much on a compact layout. I can see your version 2 saving you at least $100+ in real brick, too (without the expensive BBB wheels, orange pieces, and smaller piece count).
  17. Great job on this loco. Does it use standard LEGO wheels or BBB wheels? Have you posted your XL 4460 as well? Can you compare them side-by-side?

New 2015 LEGO Town-esque house set found at the LEGO Store

Found this in my local LEGO store the other day. It is adorable. Has the classic vibe with the primary colors, but with just a touch of modern - brick facade 1x2s, 1x1 round tiles, etc. A little house like this just screams Eurobricks contest. Get a 16x16 plate, and build a residential home/vignette. Anyways, I'm very pleased with this.

    Removing Rear Face On Minifigs

Brasso works best in my experience. It's a fine brash polish and doesn't remove the sheen of the plastic. wet the end of a rag and rub gently for about 30 seconds.

Your thoughts on "cutting lego" ?

I'm in the process of getting some small train wheels cut with a slightly larger opening to accommodate a technic axle. Wish me luck. :) I found a plastics fabrication/bending/cutting company near my home, and submitted for quote. They have done stuff like this before, but it won't be cheap. $20 minimum for testing cuts, and $100 minimum for a jig. They'll be using laser cutters, even though from their experience (apparently I'm not the first AFOL to try) even the laser cutter will sometimes burn the edges. I've found dremel tools and LEGO just don't mix - any boring or milling just shreds up my edges, and I have a hard time getting a precision cut.

To buy or not to buy: The 60051 Passenger Train

Swap out the grey base plates for white and you'll get a nice representation of a newer era German ICE. That's my plan, anyways. Here's a good example. http://www.1000steine.de/de/modelle/archiv/?archiv_theme=2 The all-white looks waaaay better to me than the grey on white two tone.

    2015 LEGO Trains?

On a related note, the orange tram looks even worse in these pictures than in ones seen previously. The heavy haul train is boring, uninspired, and bland.

    2015 LEGO Trains?

Inexpensive hardly... Rumor is €180 for the set. Don't know what that will be in USD, but it does not seem at first glance to be much value for the money.
