Book II Challenge 1 A: To Ambush an Ambush

Soraya is a member of the Hashishin, an ancient and secretive group of Kaliphlin assassins. Some even claim that the very word "assassin" can be traced back to this group. The widespread idea that the Hashishin are smoking certain plants before combat is however an ignorant misinterpretation of the name. Even though their numbers are few, they are feared throughout Kaliphlin and indeed throughout Historica.

Soraya is very skilled in the use of her long single-edged sword, but she also has a few more tricks up her sleeve. One of these is her trained monkey, fiercely loyal and with surprising skills with the knife.

In some parts of Nocturnus, the strangleweeds grow very thick and the only relatively safe means of transportation is on the rare stone paths with stone walls and regular patrols to get rid of the weeds. These paths are unfortunately also an excellent place for an ambush, as Soraya well knows. She therefore lets her monkey follow her on the side between the trees. When as expected a Nocturnian soldier ambushes her, the monkey is ready to deal with the threat...

I would like to claim the following UoP DoH credits for this build:

Landscape Design: Tree (1/3, for the big one)

Landscape Design: Dense foliage

Looks great, the only change I would make is the one I mentioned earlier. Absolutely love the round tiles in the path and good use of tan for tree bark. :sweet:

I thought tan trunks with dark red leaves would look suitably gloomy for Nocturnus  Actually ended up building different kinds of such trees in all my entries.

I agree, don't know why I didn't think of putting some vines into those thorns. Would definitely have improved it. Depending on the exact hour of the deadline I might actually make another attempt at shooting this one tomorrow if there is time, since there are some other small details I'm not 100% happy with.

Looks great! I also love the color scheme on those trees

Thanks Kayne! It's good to put some of those expensive tan arches to use for anything else than Kaliphlin architecture

Great scene! I love the tan trees, they are certainly different, and do add splashes of lighter colour into what are frequently gloomy Nocty MOCs!

I love the colour choices, everything goes so nicely together. They 'story-telling' shots are especially superb.

The widespread idea that the Hashishin are smoking certain plants before combat...

Lol!

I like this build. I think it's deceptively simple, but the red leaves, cobbled path, and trees are terrific. A lot of character in a small footprint.

That is a dangerous monkey

Nice moc I like the rock pattern, small wall, and how it separates all from the vegetation.

Really nice little vignette, illustrates the story well. The tan tree looks great with the dark red foliage. UoP: +1 for both catagories. :classic:
