  1. Since I don't participate in Facebook, please let us know when the announcement is made. While the rumors appear to be strong and legitimate (however you measure those things on the Internet), I think it would be hilarious if it turns out to be something other than a detective agency. A homeless shelter would be great. But, we may have to leave that one to Eurotrash. :-)
  2. I should have gone to the Lego store that's two miles from my house. But, I can't stand the mall experience. So, I waited too long and noticed that lego.com was pretty much out of stock on everything I wanted. So, I settled for another PC. I'll use its parts on one of the MOCs shown in the Lego Neighborhood Book. I could have been half way to the store in the time it took to write this post. But, I'm so lazy..........
  3. About a month ago, I decided to start the winter village series. I've built all of them within the past month or so. While I do appreciate the detailed reviews that resulted in a low rating for this set, I can't completely agree with them. Lego did miss the opportunity of issuing a larger set that could of been the center piece of this series. However, the one they did issue fits in well with the other sets and has some nice details. Since this is Santas Workshop, a 1200 plus piece set that would have served as the focal point of the series certainly would have been welcomed and probably more appropriate than the 10245 final product. Just the same, I like this years WV and would encourage you to buy it.
  4. Nice, even though it's slightly smaller than the one I built in my garage.
  5. The best set up I've seen is a large square table with the buildings facing inwards towards what amounts to a town square/park. You should be able to construct that type of table with plywood and some supporting pieces of wood. Right now, I'm using office tables that are about six feet wide and thirty inches deep. I'm not happy with that set up and want to eventually have one large square table in the center of the room where I can go with the town square design. Of course, one needs a room to devote to mostly lego stuff to make this design work.
  6. The Manchester City -Roma match was on our main network today. About a minute into the game, I found PSG and Barcelona on the regional Fox sports network. Very, very entertaining game. The kind of game that can turn a Yank into a fan of real football.
  7. I always cringe when I hear an idea of importing something from Friends or City over to Modulars. TLG market research and plans were to design a product aimed at AFOLs. The result was the modular building series. While some colors/ideas from Friends or City could work in Modular, I want modulars to retain their original target market of AFOLs. 16+ as it says on many of the modular boxes. Yes, I realize that Lego is a toy. But, I want modulars to retain their more, for lack of a better word, 'mature' appearance. When people visit my house and see the modulars on display they don't immediatly ask if I have children. They appreciate the modulars as a nice adult display and hobby. And that's the look that I want to retain.
  8. The postman just delivered my copy of 'The Lego Neighborhood Book' by Brian and Jason Lyles. As a relative newcomer to Lego, I find the book very helpful. Especially with construction of interior pieces......an area where I don't know very much. Information on how to design furniture for several different types of rooms for houses and businesses. Also some great instructions on how to construct some relatively simple buildings. A good starting point and motivator for someone like me who needs a kick in the behind to try MOCs.
  9. Thanks for the info! Nice color, but a little of it goes a long way, if you know what I mean.....
  10. I have no interest in Friends. So, could someone please direct me to where I might find a sample of this yellow that people are referring to?
  11. Until we officially hear otherwise, the natural history museum and Apple store are as relevant to this thread as the still imaginary and yet unconfirmed detective agency. Edit....actually, they're still relevant even if the much speculated detective agency makes an appearance. Just because something is mentioned in lego ideas shouldn't disqualify it from a general discussion in this thread.
  12. Yep, but I bet Apple would agree to it in a heartbeat. After all, since Steve died, it hasn't exactly been all roses at Apple....
  13. Technically, correct. But does the Apple building really fit into the aesthetic of the modular series? I think not. It probably got to 10,000 not because of the great design, but because of the Apple cult. Nothing against Apple, I'm using an iPad 100% of the time when I post to this forum. But, unlike many, many Apple devotees, I wouldn't pay $400 for two cans with a string in between just because Apple called it an I-Intercom.
  14. Unfortunately, I don't see how any modular building will ever reach the 10,000 vote total. Too bad because there are some brilliant designs. While I know Market Steet was designed by an AFOL, I don't see that as having much relevance to the current crop of modular MOCS on Lego Ideas. Many of the buildings now on Lego Ideas are much more detailed than MS and even much better and more detailed than TLG official creations. I may try to do a MOC knock off of the museum since I have hundreds of the base color bricks left over from the mega GE project.
  15. Outstanding! But, I have the same suggestion that I always have when I see a Land Rover MOC. It needs some puddles of leaking fluid underneath it and a matching MOC tow truck.
  16. 1. Oddly, but probably not surprisingly, I do have a flip phone. 2. Thanks for your nice comment about the mega GE. I've expanded it by one floor since I sent you the picture. It sits next to my expanded TH with a small park area in between the two. Think I'll work on photo sharing this week.
  17. Welcome. The staff at the North Pointe Lego store is great. If you haven't already, I'd encourage you to visit it.
  18. I really need the next modular to be released. So bored that I just got three more GEs to add a fifth floor to my 96 x 64 GE. It's a tribute to Mr. Selfridge, I suppose. I would like to share a picture of it and my expanded TH. What website is best for picture hosting for those like me who are, at heart, Luddites?
  19. Good luck. Searching ebay, the low price on current auctions is $310 USD. Unless you lived in the limited market where it was released, it was difficult to get. I got two from a seller in Japan. Seems like I paid about $219 each with three or four day shipping to US included. I built one and have one still new in the box. TLGs handling of this limited release resulted in some controversy which is probably best allowed to rest in peace at this time.
  20. Thanks. I don't expect my OCD to have value to most people. I just do it, well, because. I have shown it to a few people who appreciated the look of an old time department store that took up the entire block. As for value, the whole is definitely less than the pre build price of all of the GEs that I used.
  21. Sometimes, you just get sort of an obsessive compulsive project. Like my 96 x 64 grand emporium that will soon be five stories high. It's too expensive, my time could have been spent better elsewhere and sometimes I do ask 'why'? And, my project doesn't have the same level of creativity as the one to which you've linked us. So, beats the heck out of me. But, I appreciate you opening the discussion and I'm curious to see what kind of response it generates.
  22. Taxes....what fun. America. You can own your own home. I owned one in NJ not long ago. But, my property taxes amounted to over $800 a month. So, I was actually renting from the county even though I 'owned' the house. So, that gets me to sales tax just across the river in NYC. Yep, everything should cost more there due to the relatively high tax rate. Plus, labor costs are higher, transportation costs higher, just about everything costs more. Not complaining, not being political, but two plus two equals four, except some places where you need to add an extra two for taxes.
  23. Rick, here's another example of my new and improved level of restraint. :-)
  24. If the next modular is a detective agency, then they are really off the rails with having the modular city reflect the true make up of a real city. I mean, a hospital, school or post office would seem more logical IF Lego wanted a modular city representative of the real world. As for me, I couldn't care less either way. Detective agency is fine. I think a shop that sells classic vinyl is also a good idea. As is a jazz club. As long as the building is pleasing, I don't care a lot about its theme. Besides, if this product line lasts a while, they'll get around to just about every kind of building. If not, build it yourself. :-)
