For Brickfete 2016 and the Friends contest, I made a Friends-ly tree slide GBC module. The input and output are to GBC standards so it should play nice with other GBC modules. During the event I had make various modifications and fixes. Although, it worked great at home. I think I got the bugs out of it now. It had pretty good response and feedback from girls and moms. Welcome aboard. It is a fun challenge to build with what you already have versus going out and buying more.

Welcome to Eurobricks, Simon.

Looks good. Do you plan to motorize it?
-
Very nice work.
-
Sounds like fun. How many engines is it going to take?
-
Would it be an option to paint the 9V motor wheels red like the way model railroaders paint their rolling stock wheels with rust colour? Or make a round red glossy sticker to cover the black round part of the 9V motor wheels?

Nether Train sounds interesting. Will it use regular or narrow train tracks.
-
I noticed that too. But the product description calls it a caboose. I think there might be a disconnect between product design and product marketing departments. If you are going to motorize it, it'll be interesting to see how many cars the PF train motor will be able to pull in that setup. There doesn't seem to be a lot of weight on the front of the steam engine for traction.
-
That caboose with the really low cupola looks pretty much like one of those small old passenger cars with roof windows for sunlight. I don't think it would be hard to ditch the cupola on the caboose and turn it into a passenger car or change its roof line to look like the LGB passenger car.

It looks like a bunch of wires squished in the cab in this picture. There are probably ways to make it work. You could have the engineer sit on top of a seat on a plate and have the wires run underneath the plate.
-
Maybe they should include a green sticker sheet. It could be an possible aftermarket sticker offering from Jopiek or Ben. Perhaps the marketing people said no. They didn't want to give the false impression that it came with Power Functions. Somebody will eventually post a YouTube video with the PF installed. Then we'll see how well or not well it works.
-
I think part of the PF receiver may take up space in the cab plus you also have the wires going through. Maybe why the engineer is hanging on the outside in that picture.

It is a nice set to complement other Winter Village sets. Lack of straight tracks can be solved with the LEGO straight and flexi track 7499 set. Including more tracks would increase the cost of the set for those who don't need the extra tracks. I think keeping the price low with just the basics allows it to fit into more family budgets. It's like buying a car, you can always add it if you want and have the extra money.

It's a nice Winter Village train set that will complement other Winter Village sets. I don't think I'll buy it since I've already made my own Holiday Train a couple of years ago for the LEGO Store community window. Come to think of it, I had a small engine, small flat car, small passenger car too. I prefer diesel over steam. I really like the micro train going around the Christmas tree. Dang, why didn't I think of that with the micro Horizon Express I had in the flat car with the tree.

Barrie is pretty nice. I am not aware of a LUG in Barrie. I'm pretty sure there are more AFOLs in Barrie that could get together and form a LUG. Toronto has a LUG but they are 100km away.

Nice build and interesting story, Captain B. Is the moral of the story: Don't trust anyone wearing too much green and from a ship lacking monkeys?- 14 replies

[HELP] Newbie Getting Started

1A. Depending what country you're in and from where LEGO.com ships to you. If it is out of country, your country's customs office may randomly open and inspect the package. 1B. I buy from LEGO and Bricklink. Do your homework on Bricklink like with eBay--some sellers are better than others. 2. You can use LEGO's official Digital Designer. It's a popular one. There's also 3rd parties like MLCAD, LDDraw, etc. 3. Mistakes can happen. Learn from it. 4. Shop around if you're look for the best deal. Some things are better on LEGO.com, other things on Bricklink, etc. Watchout for shipping charges adding up on multiple orders and stores. -
LEGO train storage systems - boxes, bins, and bags!
dr_spock replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
For taking to shows, I use banker box. I like the "handles" on the sides. If too long, I toss them in a big plastic tote container. -
It could be powered with a PF motor geared up for faster flinging and not be dependent on the train moving to spin. 4533 was a pretty strong set.
-
I wonder if it will float better than the fishing boat from a few years ago.

The red car at the end could pass for a small passenger car. Cabooses tend to have higher cupola windows. The roof of the red car has small windows which are similar to the small roof windows of old passenger cars that provide sun lighting. Also 3 tall window panels on the side is not very caboose-like, at least for North American cabooses.
