MOC: Friends - Battle of Heartlake
rodiziorobs replied to Modulex Guy's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The shot of the Friends tank taking out that dragon...while running over an Elf...is something else! I love all the creative chaos on display here! -
Sorry for posting on previous weeks' entries, but I missed this one. I know that design of engines has been seen in AG builds before, but I think it fits really well here with the paneling on the side and the gun details. My favorite part, however, is the hammerhead shape of the front. It just looks brutal and aggressive, again fitting with the ship

I remember seeing this one before but forgot to comment on it. The scene is well built, but my favorite is how the pictures tell the story. I see now how the next week fits in with it...
-
Nice Fascini cluster moon orbiting asteroid base the CS crater baseplate really fits the look of it
-
Nice to see another good use for those Airjitzu blades!
-
I am not really a fan of the hair as part of the landscape, but the roadster is impressive, looks mean and fast
-
I love the vertical nature of the build, it really emphasizes the story you're telling. The rounded shape of the well shaft is great

I never would have thought to use that piece as part of the terrain, but they look great, especially with all the odd angles, very organic. It would be nice to see a fuller terrain around them, but I'm guessing that's just a time issue (you know, not like I'm ever guilty of that )

The little mining vehicle is great--it has personality yet looks functional and compact. I feel like maybe the terrain isn't as good as your usual stuff, but that's probably just because you've set the bar so high (better than mine, that's for sure!) I like the developments in the story, too, and want to know more!
-
I really like the way you show them asleep in their beds, but my favorite is the action shot of the uppercut--the posing is really fantastic. Great job!
-
The decorative railing is really neat, and I like the way you've got that garden space attached at an angle--it breaks up the square shape of everything really well
-
Some inventive piece use here with the boat hull, and I also like how you're getting back into the story. You know, I hadn't noticed the lack of scorpion, but now that you point it out it's all I notice Perhaps the bat ate it
-
The biplane looks pretty neat! And I like your character, even if he joined the wrong team Look forward to what future entries, and welcome to Andromeda!

Man, now I really wish I could afford Big Ben, that mini bus is just salt in my wounds...

Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
rodiziorobs replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
I suspect--even though it looks like it's not connected at all--that the odd knob/bar on the left moves some technic/ball joint assembly on the back to control the rods. -

LEGO Ideas Discussion
rodiziorobs replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Gotta remember apples to oranges, though. All aspects of licensing get their own agreements and arrangements: toys, games, action figures, scale figurines, lunchboxes, t-shirts, etc.--it all gets handled differently, often with separate licenses for each licensee and product category. I think all of the rules changes make a lot of sense. The piece count has been a long time coming, and I'm frankly surprised they set the limit so high. The no-repeat-licenses rule also makes sense. In each case so far, the reviewed Ideas project has been a first step towards licensing a new IP. Presumably the license has provisions for sharing royalties with a third party (the project creator), but once that license is established those provisions cannot be written in for any additional third-parties. That being said, I expect that would also mean existing licences are out, but maybe one of the myriad licences TLG holds doesn't exclude such a scenario, so somewhere there is a chance. Or, it's just never come up in review in a way that the Ideas team can issue a definitive rule (any project based on an already-licensed had other prohibitive issues like size (X-mansion, Wayne mansion) or action-figure licensing (Dark Bucket), so maybe they didn't get far enough to consider conflicts written into the existing license itself). -
I'll have a go: Donald Pleasance starred (memorably) as Bond villain Ernst Blofelt in You Only Live Twice, and was later seen in an episode of the Peter Falk detective show Columbo. William Shatner later starred in the same show, so: Donald Pleasance (Bond Villain) > Columbo guest star> William Shatner (James T. Kirk) How do we count the links, by the way? By the number of people or events (3, in this case) or by the number of ">"s (2)?

Wow, fantastic! I really like the way you've done the domed section in the front.

This topic reminds me of an article I read last year on Brickset when TLG filed a complaint in US courts to prevent sale of toys they claimed infringed their minidolls trademark. I don't know what ever became of it, but the point that is really relevant here is that they filed this complaint only in the US, where the courts can/will actually do something about it. I'm sure if they believed it would do any good they would do the same in China, but they haven't--and probably never will--because nothing would ever come of it.

I don't get it...

Bob, can you change my sigfig pic to this? Thanks!

If you want a cheaper alternative, the Starlight Inn is quite charming. That's what got me hooked.

All my credits to Big Sal, please.

This is my approach, too: I get an idea in mind and think out some features I want to include. Once that's decided, I let my fingers do the thinking, clicking pieces together until my eyes are satisfied. Sometimes I come across some really organic solutions that I don't think I would have discovered if I had planned everything perfectly before starting. For example, last week I was building a pipe organ for a build on Andromeda's Gates, and had planned to just have it be a minor part of the build. I started putting things together and as I built my vision of it evolved. It ended up a lot bigger than I intended (still smallish), but better as well, because I just kept physically testing things out until I liked what I saw. You can see pictures of the final result here. As a practice, I don't make Bricklink orders unless I have a very specific build in mind. Occasionally it can be a little frustrating when I build myself into a corner (usually when I realize I just don't have enough of a certain piece) but struggle breeds creativity.
