  1. Read this, had already wandered on to other parts of the forum when it hit me what you were quoting. Had to come back and post.
  2. There is nothing musical about that first group. Nothing at all. Oh? A microphone you say? Well that makes all the difference then. The rest of these are so obviously mismatched it's funny. Although I wouldn't mind picking up the Warriors one (not for the figs as assembled, but for the component parts).
  3. I agree with Luc, there is a definite creep effect. Nice job, and very unique.
  4. Great compact design, and the stickers really boost the look!
  5. This one has a great clean design, but very Octan. p.s. I read the "swoooooooooosh" in what I imagine CLAPPIE to sound like, a sort-of Johnny-5 voice.
  6. The build is top-notch, but the stickering really makes it stand out. Nice!
  7. Looks like it will have no problems if an asteroid sweeps in front of it
  8. I also think the split-hull design works really well here
  9. I really like this one, the use of color is really well balanced and the shape is perfect.
  10. Wow, the asymmetry is really striking, and the way you've connected the two halves is clever. Maybe a bit of stickering would make it feel more GARC-like, but it looks great
  11. I love the classic muscle car vibe I get from this. Excellent stickering, and great photos: fantastic work! Oh, and it looks like it didn't go unnoticed in the blogosphere: TBB
  12. I like the pitched-forward design of the cockpit, and the trans-blue foils are a nice touch
  13. I love how much you managed to fit into such a tiny design, this is a very cool GARC.
  14. The Fusion Wave is part of the team representing M.A.N.T.I.S. in the GARC category of the Space Olympics. Piloted by Roskin Jargons, the Fusion Wave was a last-minute addition to the team, due to the simple matter of resolving the pilot's criminal record before he could be cleared to compete. Not that Jargons is a dangerous felon, but let's just say that he has always enjoyed fast racers...even if he didn't own them. 15. My local WalMarts are holding fast to the Sept. 1st street date. Apparently they didn't get the memo. It's better than previous series, though, where they didn't get anything.
  16. It's not biodegradeability they are after, but sustainable sourcing; they are looking for an alternative to ABS to reduce their reliance on petroleum and derivatives.
  17. What's up Doc? (That's the name of the movie, if you're unfamiliar with it.
  18. I agree with pretty much your entire post, especially in regards to the different approaches to Elves and Friends in terms of design. I think you've nailed it. :slowclap:
  19. I think this is actually the key to LEGO's longevity, as they are not easily replaced. If some new construction toy brand could revolutionize the market, providing the same/equivalent experience in a different way (similar to tech advances such as electric or driverless cars, digital music, or streaming entertainment), then LEGO might lose out. Personally, I don't see a way that will happen; the building block experience is too elemental to really change much or go away. Even TLG's own attempts to move beyond or away from the basic brick-clicking experience have been met with outright failure (famously Galidor), diminishing returns (the Games line) or general indifference (Fusion, recently). Plus, the fact that TLG spends a lot on research expanding their play offerings means that if there is some groundbreaking innovation, they would likely stumble onto it first. Add to that the fact that LEGO is one of the most trusted companies in the world and is building up a strong portfolio of not only educational play experiences, but media and entertainment as well, I really don't see them going anywhere. Correct, here is the article in a trade publication (an intriguing read, IMO) but there are similar articles/commentary run in Wired and other magazines as well. Interestingly, they bring up exactly the point I quoted Pep on and that is how difficult it is to innovate new materials that are 100% faithful to 40+ years of product. Anyone who has any of the old CA bricks has probably witnessed that.
  20. Hmmm. Rats, the minifig one would have been great. Have you tried this?
  21. We can, but if we are talking about the movies themselves there is a Culture and Multimedia subforum here.
  22. Love it! The only thing it feels like may be missing is a scarf around her neck (like a WWI pilot), but the tail really goes well here
  23. If it is just hot glue (which I would believe, seeing the displays in my local stores), then you don't need to dissolve it at all, you just want to be able to peel it off. I would think that water alone would do the trick with most of it, either very hot (no hotter than your tap would go) or ice cold. Unless you are melting bricks or putting them directly in the freezer for a long time, the ABS shouldn't be harmed, but the water will help remove the glue, either by softening it (hot water) or making it brittle (cold). Let us know!
  24. Dona Flor had heard the news and couldn't wait to tell everyone: the three biggest corporations in the galaxy were hosting a series of games, just for them! The Space Geriatric Games. Did I mention Dona Flor was a little hard of hearing? Anyway, it wasn't hard to put together a five-man rowing team from the local homesteaders, and Dona Flor herself would be the coxswain. When the team arrived to claim MANTIS sponsorship, the MANTIS agent was sure that rowing wasn't an actual event, but after checking the rules, it simply said "boat race" and had only a size requirement, not age. "Why not," he thought to himself. "At the very least, it'll give those NBC morons some more human interest crap for their broadcast," and he signed them up. Besides, he had learned not to ask too many questions. **************** "Did he say to put on our tuxedos?" "I want some taquitos!" "Look, ma! I'm on TV!" **************** Pictures to show size. The red buoys mark every 5 studs from the dock to the yellow buoys, exactly 20 studs, and there is a space of 10 studs between the rows.
