What was the last movie you watched?

Or not. (I didn't) -
Help with identifying parts/sets!
rodiziorobs replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My parents have some of those square-studded bricks: the red lattice piece is a window frame from part of the same system (I've only ever seen green before), as is the studless slope piece (used to lay paper over as a roof). Unfortunately, I have no idea what brand they are (definitely not Lego). Seems like they were American manufactured, probably from the 50's. -
Once again, a superb series. I seriously hope TLG stumbles across your designs and rewards you for doing all their work for them!

How to start building up pieces?
rodiziorobs replied to TheLunabrick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is exactly my experience, as well. eBay can be wonderful if you are patient enough to wait for a good deal, but savvy enough to jump on it when you have the chance. If you're a bit too trigger happy you may end up spending more than is worth it. Buying random lots is also a good way to encounter strange (and useful!) pieces that you might not have ever discovered otherwise. -
When my local store opened (Murray, UT, USA) about 3 years ago, I don't remember any unique set giveaways, but I didn't get there in time to wait in line, either. They did, however, give away quite a few other sets randomly. I managed to score a Sopwith Camel (in a damaged box, but hey, I wasn't complaining!) so it could be worth it to stop by even if you aren't one of the first few in line.

[Challenge 5][Cat A] A Clerical Error
rodiziorobs replied to Andromedas Gates's topic in AG1 Archive
Very cool! Some of them are definitely deserving of more than just a 1! What is the ball joint piece (I assume that's what it is, or else I don't see how it could work) that is holding on #9's arms?- 10 replies

Fantastic story and wonderful builds...the nature scene is simple but really well done. Welcome back!

Actually, there are two. There are probably others, but I doubt I have the clearance for them.

Harry Potter: Cursed Child Discussion
rodiziorobs replied to xboxtravis7992's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I haven't really had a desire to read any HP since finishing the 7th book...on its release date...but if someone I knew had a copy I think I would ask to borrow it. (The only HP reading I have done lately was HP and the Methods of Rationality (online fanfic), which is often clever and in some ways superior to the original, although it does sag heavily in some places.) Thanks for the recommendation xboxtravis, I'll put it on my list. -
Presenting Lucha Verde, competitor for the Mech Wrestling event, representing MANTIS. AG Olympics - Cat A by rodiziorobs, on Flickr Controlled by former two-time Robo-Force champion Anne Galloway, Lucha Verde is a middle-weight class mech, designed for quick, destructive punch-outs. Although not very quick on its feet, it has a very stable stance based on its large footprint and can turn about easily in one spot. Correct! Your turn, RetroInferno.

Similar to Gnac, I would also suggest a ribbed 2m connector, but inserted between the studs of a 2x2 round brick, and that should be all you need.

See, if I had to choose, I would say it was the other way around...the knights eventually forgot/lost their magic, their planet died, and their descendants went skyward, wandering through space for a bit until they came to rest on planet #2002, where their trans-neon-orange tools came in handy and looked awesome.

Not to mention that at least some of the Zoid slavers weren't even Zoids... p.s. It cracks me up every time I see the Jack Stone fig in with the others, I love your team!

Well then let me introduce you to one of my favorites...

Ice Planet by far. However, I really liked Galaxy Squad...the designs were pretty good, and they came with a great selection of parts. It might help that I never had (still don't have) the money to get the amazing Ice Planet flagship so there is a permanent Deep Freeze Defender-shaped hole in my childhood that yearns to be filled, and that I didn't discover GS until I was able to find most of the sets at 60% clearance (which was definitely endearing!)

Awesome challenge! I have been away awhile and come back to find this, very cool. I have a couple Cat E questions: 1) Do equestrian events count as needing "vehicles"? 2) Are we allowed some sci-fi poetic license in representing the chosen Olympic sport? i.e. Water Polo becomes Zero-G Polo? (I suppose this question could also apply to the other categories.) Thanks!

What was the last movie you watched?
rodiziorobs replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Guardians of the Galaxy (again, 1st time since theaters). Not bad, but not as good as I remember. -
I don't care about set completeness (since everything I buy will get parted out eventually!) so I look for a good deal--for me it's a a balance of the set's MSRP (or current going price for discontinued sets; you can look for completed or sold listings to find this on eBay) versus how complete it is. For example, back when I was first getting out of my dark age, I discovered the MMV. I had missed its release, and it was only available second-hand, with a steep markup over its original $100 price. However, I found an incomplete one (missing about 30 pieces total) for less, about $80. Was it worth it for me? I spent about half of what I would have for what was essentially the same set, so yes, it was worth buying incomplete. (It also came with a scattering of bonus pieces from completely different sets!) I have bought other used Lego and the only issue I have ever had was with a batch that smelled of cigarettes, but that washed completely out. Like anything on eBay, you have to be patient and choosy about what you get, but buying incomplete sets can bring a whole lot of brick value compared to pristine packaging or booklets. If those things are important to you, then make sure you consider that when buying, but if not, then you can save yourself some $$ (for more Lego!)

Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
rodiziorobs replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yeah, but we also remember Pepper in the suit and Giant Man. For all the inaccuracies, there are also genuine revelations. I think that's a neat inclusion, but I don't know if we will actually see it relate to anything in this movie. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
rodiziorobs replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't mean that none of its supporters would actually buy it. And it's entirely possible that it will pass review regardless. I just doubt the ideas community by itself is active enough to whip up that many supports that quickly. Maybe some of those one-timers will stick around, but my guess is that a lot of them would be the kind of people who (if the set passes review) would see the set show up later on Pinterest, say "oh cool, I remember that," and never give it another thought. (Granted whatever sales are lost there would be immediately made up by scalpers gobbling up as many sets as they could, hoping to cash in on the Research Institute phenomenon). -
CMF Series 17 Guessing Game
rodiziorobs replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
They do, in fact, but it's a brand new piece. The Black Panther BrickHeadz has it in black. Sorry Itaria! I just realized we're clogging up your guessing game thread with all this idle chatter!
