  2. I picked up the Adventure Ship the other day, and while I quite like it, it doesn't really display with the other sets well IMO. The other sets I have look very natural, I mean that the buildings fit into their natural setting well. The ship, however, sticks out in its design; it looks more like something built than something that grew over time. I still really like it, but I am thinking of modding it into a smaller boat and using the rest of the pieces to build a small dock or shanty, so that it fits better with my display. I'll post pics when I'm done.
  3. machinery.
  4. An untrustworthy or ignorant seller, apparently.
  5. I need this movie to exist now (but only if it were brave enough to be completely self-parodying. I don't to see Indy taking on dinosaurs for real. )
  6. I have fond memories of seeing Beauty and the Beast as a kid. We got it for Christmas the same year I got this set: When we watched the movie, I built the set behind the couch where I could still see the TV. Every time I hear the intro music I remember those moments building that set. Every time including for the new teaser trailer. It looks good, and I'm sure it will be (I'll be seeing it, regardless), but I'm not too sold on Emma Watson (as an actress generally, not just as Belle), and while I like Ewan McGregor's Lumiere voice, his delivery made an already-cliche phrase sound even more so. I am most looking forward to Stanley Tucci's character though, because that guy can do anything. I need a Stanley Tucci cinematic universe.
  7. Forty to Sal, please. I get the strangest feeling of déjà vu...
  8. The priest is my favorite. As scrolling through the post, it never occurred to me that I was seeing the same three heads over and over, so I think you've done a great job!
  9. All of the ones with musical instruments--crier, piper, harpist, organ grinder--would be an instant buy for me, possibly in multiples. Not just because of the instruments (although that's part of it), but also because they are all just really well done. After that would be Colonel Sanders (perfect and so reusable ) and maybe the troll, depending on how it turned out. I like the concept, but not really the design as it currently stands.
  10. Hmmm. While they all look pretty good, I don't feel like I have to own any of them except personally, with the exception of the Mariachi player (of which I will need at least three). And maybe the wildlife photog, but that's just for the penguin. I might pick up the imp, cyborg, Arabian Knight, pirate, and spy, but at the same time I feel like I wouldn't be missing out if I never did. I want to like the rogue, but I really dislike the hood, and I can't see the torso print well enough to judge. This all might change when I see better pictures, but for now, I think my wallet can rest a little easier.
  11. Location: C03 (Torresta) Tags: N/A TL;DR blah blah blah character development blah blah blah Jex' rehabilitation was going quite well. Mentally, she was in keen shape, and physically, she had nearly recovered from her two years of wilderness survival. Emotionally, however, she still had occasional breakdowns, particularly under stressful situations. For that reason, her doctors had recommended she not resume combat missions yet. This was fine with her, as she acknowledged her need for further healing and stability, and felt a little rusty behind the controls. So, she willingly accepted the transfer to Torresta to help train New cadets. Intermediate trainees were sent out to a lava flow in the Torrestan highlands where there were some interesting rock formations. Pilots would race in and out of the towers, and down through the maze of valleys. Jex enjoyed the familiarity of the terrain, as she herself had trained here nearly three years earlier--a funny thought, she realized, since MANTIS had only arrived in Andromeda a little over a year ago. Recovering from a time displacement was definitely going to take some getting used to. She heard about the experiments that Moose and Big Sal's team were doing, trying to understand the GATE anomalies, and hoped they would shed some light on her own experience. Those scientists always seemed so smart, like Scorpio had been. Even though he was kinda dumb sometimes, he was always pretty good at what he did. The funeral was to be held back at the Core, Torresta's capital, in about a week. She had thought about not going, but Dr. Urie said it might give her a little closure to the whole ordeal. Her thoughts were interrupted by the voice in her earpiece: "DuBois, you ready? You're all refueled and ready for another dozen tours out there." Jex shook off her thoughts. Time for that later."Yes, I'm ready." "All right. You'll be taking Gareth out this time and it's his first time around the cracks, K? so go easy on him. He's just getting strapped in right now." Jex smiled. Another greenie. Perfect. "You got it." *************** C&C welcome, a few more pics below: *************** My apologies for the low quality photos. It's late so I'm working in less than optimal lighting conditions, and on less than optimal sleep The ships and the race platform The maze layout--yes, a Torrestified 21305--that I will be using as part of my entry for Bob's MAZE contest, but only to demonstrate my Cat B, so don't worry--I didn't disqualify myself.
  12. When I saw the first I thought,"wow!" It's an impressive ship with aggressive shaping and a great color scheme. And then, they just kept coming! The fact that you made eight of them and fit them into the hangar is a little mind-boggling. Nicely done!
  13. I hope some article in HispaBrick or some other magazine interviews the designer for this set, then asks them why the heck they decided to go this route with the molding. I just can't make sense of it.
  14. Is this rule effective immediately, or starting next week (week 48)?
  15. Depending on if you want her staff to appear gold or green, you could use a microphone. I think it's not too long to fit inside the spyglass part, but could be wrong.
  16. Starlight Inn was the first Elves set I bought (at my wife's request ). It is a really good value, and the Elves minidolls themselves are quite charming. They aren't as versatile or customizable as minifigs, but I don't regret getting the set. It convinced me to pick up some other Elves sets (at a huge discount, mind you). I wish the minidolls integrated better into what we usually accept as "in system", but the unique parts are astonishing, and the set designs themselves are some of the best I have seen from LEGO in recent years. I'd recommend buying at least that set to start off with, and see what you think after that.
  17. unilaterally.
  18. The way the clock hands are designed and function is pretty brilliant. The two tool pieces are attached to what is probably a single 3m technic bar with stud (both inside and outside the stud, using the socket wrench and closed wrench). The four of those probably have a small gear which is turned by a larger central gear laid flat. A pretty simple solution, but I know I would never have come across it. This is why we love Jamie's designs so much! Now I have to see if I can find a spare $250 lying around somewhere I think it could be adapted, though, to make it into a real functioning clock, but it would be pretty difficult without modding pieces, and definitely affect the look.
  19. Forty to Sal, please.
  20. Allow me to write a less-than-meta poem off of your meta-poem (which I suppose, restores its meta-ness -?) It makes no sense in English and logically, it would seem, it's not that clear in Portuguese, either; a gramática é ruim.
  21. Wow. This is simultaneously amazing and horrifying.
  22. On the other hand, if there are any useful prints or accessories, you're sure to get at least two of them, since each player has to have the same selection of 'figs. Plus a couple dozen trans-lt-blue windscreens. My question is, who is in the market for this unless they plan to use it as a parts pack? The original game is not expensive ($12?), and you can download additional character cards for free. Given the piece count I would guess this would sell for $40 or more, likely $50. It just doesn't seem like a great purchase when the original version--and frankly, better version, if all you're after is the game--is 1/4 that.
