Scooby-Doo 2015 Rumours & Discussion
lifeinplastic replied to TheLazyChicken's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'd much rather have a Lego original theme than yet another license. Hopefully it won't be Scooby Doo but something based on Alexandre Boudon's 'teen Monster-Fighters' designs. https://www.tumblr.com/search/Alexandre+Boudon I always felt Monster Fighters could have done with another wave of sets (including Boudon's Spirit/Banshee figure and his Ghost Pirate Ship, plus a Pumpkin-Head character)- 1,699 replies

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but the new palm tree design looks awful - technic pieces? Wish the original palm tree trunk shapes were included but in lighter brown colours.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
lifeinplastic replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Not my favourite modular and way off the wonderful Parisian Restaurant from last year. The multiple colours for different floors don't quite work but the minifigs look good and there seems to be some decent parts as you would expect from a set this size. Yes, I think there are too many bright colours used here. The yellow would have been more suitable as an upstairs level, like the olive green in PR but for me, the light blue spoils the look of this. Likewise, I wish we could go back to printed pieces and cut costs elsewhere if necessary. Seconded - the side of the building also looks a bit 'messy' I'm guessing Al is short for 'Ali' as in Ali Baba (Ali Barber, geddit?) The modular usually all have classic faces. I imagine this is to appeal to older fans, who have nostalgia for older sets. I think it's a nice touch. -
*Sigh* Was hoping the rumours about a second Simpsons series were only that. I don't dislike the TV show but it bothers me that we'll miss out on another normal series for something that isn't Lego's own brand. I wish that Lego just made Simpsons sets like other licensed themes so that it doesn't get in the way of potential new non-licensed figures that can be integrated into other themes rather than just the non-compatible Simpsons line. The last series didn't really have any new accessories to make them at least almost worth while. Oh well, my money will probably be better spent on other products than Lego in 2015, especially as I have no need for more police. I remember when Lego's slogan used to be 'Just Imagine'. No need for kids to imagine any more as the majority of Lego's products have existing characters, plot lines, etc which don't necessitate much creativity. The new tagline should just be 'Don't bother imagining any longer kids, we've done it all for you"

I think the reason for this may be because Lego are aware that they need to include a reasonable number of female figures in each series. Also, they need to ensure that many of these females are shown in a positive light, either in a high-achieving professional role (e.g. surgeon, sportswomen, scientist) or as a leading 'stronger' character (Warrior Princess, Medusa). As you can see in our 'Which Minifigures Are Missing' thread, many of the characters we seem to choose in more dominant roles are male so when there is an opportunity for a more positive character to be female, then Lego have to act accordingly. For example, in Series 12, the fairytale Princess is often seen as a more helpless 'damsel in distress' role, known only for her beauty. Therefore, Lego probably chose to make the Dino Hunter female as well as including the Battle Goddess to balance out any negative stereotyping.

Seems like a great selection of figures in this Series. I honestly don't understand those who moan about repeats. For me, the more figures which compliment existing ones, the better. I don't think for one minute Lego has run out of ideas, they just have to try to cater for everyone, which is what makes the CMF so appealing. It's hard to see but is the palaeontologist's hat a new mould? I am hoping that the King's crown is separate from his beard. Very impressed with the sheriff too, especially as the Wild West has had some long overdue updates recently. As a fan of Adventurers I'm hoping to see the snake charmer and palaeontologist in closer view.
-
Does anyone else think that in the pic of the snake charmer his arms are manipulated in any way? To me, the angle of his elbow looks more acute than obtuse and the hands look closer together than is usually possible for a minifig. A camera trick, photograph editing or a specific mould to allow him to play his instrument? There are many more animal costumes I'd have preferred above a unicorn and I am certain that the fencer will be female. There is a quite a decent mix here (I like a selection of themes). However, I am hoping the palaeontologist will look great as this holds my interest the most. Two that have yet to be discussed much are the King (medieval, Tudor, modern day...) and the Egyptian Warrior (hopefully something without much armour to be used in an Ancient Egyptian civilian diorama).

Johnny Thunder: The Myth, the Minifig
lifeinplastic replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's a real shame that Johnny Thunder wasn't around when Lego themes had their own animated series like Chima and Ninjago, which in my opinion would have been far more interesting. Here's hoping for a comeback with a large cast of supporting characters, good, bad and all those in between. A decent opportunity for Lego to showcase all the architectural styles the world has to offer, as well as animals and new accessories. I really liked the original two Adventurers logos at the top of the original post (Egypt and Jungle)...- 24 replies

It seems the list of Series 12 first surfaced on 19th May 2014, so over 4 months before the 1st October release date. Therefore, if we do expect a January 1st release for Series 13 then potentially we could expect news imminently. However, if there are 3 series each year, wouldn't they be split 4 months apart? Could somebody remind me of the release dates in previous years? I am hoping to see 3 regular series next year. I'm not bothered if other licensed series do appear, as long as they do not interfere with the regular series' release pattern, so please take note if you do read this forum Lego!

Well the Sea Captain is one of my favourite figures and I think the boxer shorts guy would be a great figure to have! I also hope for more 'summer holiday' family figures like Dorayaki's swimming girl (still waiting for Paradisa to return after 18 years!). I am extremely disappointed that there will be a CMF Simpsons No. 2 as it would suggest we'll only get 2 normal series next year again instead of the usual 3. Plus the fact there weren't really any new accessories except for the new moulded heads, which isn't particularly useful for building anything non-Simpsons. I don't dislike the show but didn't buy the minifig series.
-
*sigh* Looks like we'll have to wait at least another year before Lego produces the ever-elusive Safari/Wildlife/Zoo sub-theme. Don't worry minifigs, rhinos and hippos can be very dangerous animals so you are probably safer without them.

Which famous train would you like to see in Lego form?
lifeinplastic replied to Godtshep's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Orient Express - one of the most glamorous journeys in Europe! Not sure if they would require a licence for this but some minifigs in the classic blue smart uniforms would be essential. -
2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
lifeinplastic replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Agreed. I didn't really like the characters in the first film anyway. I know the film is aimed at kids but for me UniKitty = Jar Jar! Hope the next film is more Adventurers focussed. -

I'd also add the 'Rocky Mountaineer' from Canada to my wishlist - complete with high number of tourist minifigs (like the good old days when Lego train sets had a lot of figures to make them more playable). -

I'd like to first see the Indian-Pacific and then the Ghan, both from Australia but only if there were additions to the set to create a feeling of being in the Outback. I love Lego sets that explore the world around us, which have a sense of 'travel' rather than the generic Lego City police state! -

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
lifeinplastic replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nice to have all the pictures now. I am really pleased the 'normal' series are back. Hopefully the releases won't be disrupted again by licensed series, etc. I think the best figures from this set are the Wizard and Battle Goddess. However, as a Paradisa fan it's nice to have the lifeguard. I always think the animal costumes are good and the spooky girl is a neat addition to the 'Horror' figures. Still hope we'll get a normal minifig in a black outfit with skeleton print on though. There are too many faces I dislike in this series - I really dislike open mouths so the prospector, rock star, swashbuckler, jester, princess, pizza guy and dino hunter's heads are of no use to me. I'm also disappointed about the lack of new accessories so hopefully the next series will make up for this. I think there is something there for everyone though, which is what CMFs are all about.- 1,109 replies

DC Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussions
lifeinplastic replied to Ezekiel2517's topic in LEGO Licensed
As Batman seems to be the most popular DC character for Lego, it would be good to see some new villains that have yet to be made. I particularly like this design of the Ventriloquist. -
Ideas for New Action Themes
lifeinplastic replied to Perry the Platypus's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Seems there are a lot of us eager to see the return of the Adventurers theme in some form or another. Now that Indiana Jones is not in the picture (for at the very least a few years), I am hoping it will be possible. It would be good to have the theme tie in with a video game where a variety of characters are playable (i.e. no lead character but a selection of protagonists/antagonists). The idea could be to track down specific artefacts from across the globe. As a result, the sets could encompass a wider variety of locations without having to base all sets on a particular sub theme. This would allow us to build location-specific sets complete with wildlife, minifigures, transport and buildings specific to various global locations... For example, African Safari, Australia (Outback - kangaroos), Brazil (rainforest and Amazon river), China, Italy (Venetian gondolier), Japan, Guatemala/Mexico (Mayan temples), India, Jordan (Petra), Morocco (Casablanca era), Peru, Russia, Thailand (tuk tuk), Polar Regions, Subaquatic... I would hope that any theme would involve a lot of small, affordable sets... -
I also wonder a question about the return of Adventurers (now Indiana Jones has finished) and Western would also be appropriate?

2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
lifeinplastic replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I didn't actually like the main characters in the film (hoping the 'sequel' will actually be a completely different set of characters, in particular an Adventurers theme). However, I did like the fact that several sets provided vehicles, etc, to be used in non-Lego Movie environments, such as the ice cream van. Hopefully any future sets will contain new minifigures, in particular civilians, rather than just more of what we already can buy now. -

No. Not in a proper minifigure scale anyway. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigure Accessories Wishlist
lifeinplastic replied to lifeinplastic's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Some great suggestions in this thread! I'd personally like the following... Kitchen Rolling Pin Spatula for a BBQ Cocktail glass Garden Rake Watering Can Purple and orange flowers (same mould) Beach Kid's Bucket and Spade Panama Hat Sports Golf Club Table Tennis Bat Animals Penguin Tortoise Koala Rabbit Toucan Other Panpipes Crutches for patient Tiles with piano keys -
You need to ask yourself the following... Do I want my city to stand out from others? If so, although the modular buildings are great for gathering a large number of parts, most people already use these models for displays and if you plan to make more buildings you will need to make sure they match the official Lego style if you do decide to go with existing sets. What are my restrictions? How large can your city spread out without taking over the whole house? Also, how much you can spend will affect the size and detail of your layout. Does my City represent an existing city? If so, your buildings will need to reflect the architecture, the transport and people there will have to represent the surroundings (for example, London's red buses, New York taxis). One thing that does bother me is when people populate their cities with all their minifigures just because they have them and they like the figures. Think to yourself, why would a clown be walking down the street, etc? Sometimes it is nice to have quirky figures in scenes but don't overdo it!
