Great use of the 'Fellaini' hair piece there! I always thought the CMF footballer shirt was an Argentinian one. Good luck to Belgium for tomorrow!

MOC: The Temple of the Twin Jaguars
lifeinplastic replied to Mark of Falworth's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This is an excellent build, Mark and exactly the sort of theme I love! Many have commented on some of the impressive main features already but you can really imagine the characters rediscovering this temple deep in the jungle. At first look, the scene appears to be an idyllic utopia, undisturbed by outsiders with the bright water flowing and verdant foliage surrounding the temple. However, we are then drawn into the menacing, intricate stonework and the explorers either bravely (or naively) about to enter a more sinister environment. Will their quest result in untold riches or does disaster await? Looking more closely at the characters, I like how the two companions to the central character appear to be more native to the area while still using the traditional yellow heads and hands. I'd also like to know if the machetes are from actual Lego sets or if they are custom parts? It is MOCs like this which really make me hope we will soon see the return of an Adventurers theme. As your set shows, there is a far greater colour palette available now than the original line (I think the dark tan rocks here are a perfect use of more recent colours). The original line resulted in so many incredible new parts and I would love for this to continue, in particular as the original Amazon/Jungle subtheme perhaps could have been better. I feel that a Jungle Quest theme using a similar concept to this MOC would provide us with more creatures, foliage and iconic characters to appeal to all.- 32 replies

Very impressive and well-thought out (unlike many of the decisions made inside the real thing!)

Series 1: Caveman Series 2: Pharaoh/Lifeguard/Surfer - so difficult to pick one but this was when I realised how much potential the CMFs had Series 3: Tennis Player Series 4: Sailor Series 5: Royal Soldier Series 6: Pyjamas Boy (so many to choose from this series though - my all time favourite) Series 7: Neptune - but love the tennis guy's torso. Series 8: City Gent (with Diver a close second), nice to have a proper Santa hat too. Series 9: Actress - 2nd favourite series, love the cop and waiter too. Series 10: Sea Captain but favourite piece Grandpa's new bald hair Series 11: Grandma Lego Movie: Larry with notable mentions to Lincoln, Shakespeare and Where's My Pants Guy's torso. Simpsons: N/A - a waste of a CMF series IMO. Series 12 (so far): Battle Goddess but hopefully Lifeguard.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
lifeinplastic replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yes, I wasn't too bothered about buying any Simpsons figures so was disappointed that there were no new accessories which would have persuaded me. Likewise, the Lego Movie series didn't really have any new moulds for accessories either. The accessories are the main reason I like the collectible series as they allow Lego to introduce new pieces that wouldn't usually get moulds in a regular set such as instruments or sports equipment. Sadly though, this series doesn't so far seem to have many new accessories, except for the Battle Goddess' helmet. I am hoping the (as yet) unseen figures may surprise us, although there aren't many I can think of. Hopefully, the rock star will have a new instrument or at the very least a different guitar to previous figures. Other than that I'm not sure we'll get much.- 1,109 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
lifeinplastic replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I wasn't expecting pictures so soon - I quite like the fact we haven't seen them all at once as I like seeing the new figures so we'd have to wait ages for Series 13 (hopefully another regular series). Space Miner - I don't really have much use for this as Sci-Fi is not my priority and this doesn't fit in with any Space theme I'd create if I was going to focus on one. Wizard - As a traditional costumed character, I knew a wizard would be introduced to the CMF series but often wondered how to make it different from the old Castle line, especially once Gandalf was released. I like the detail on this one and hope the face will be good beneath the beard for re-use. Dino-Hunter - my biggest disappointment really. I knew I wouldn't be interested in the Space Miner, but thought the Dino Hunter had potential to be more of an explorer figure. The bow is pretty ridiculous and the best part is the legs. I'd have much preferred an Adventurers-style character, with a better jungle accessory. Battle Goddess - A really nice-looking figure. I do hope we get a lot more Mythology figures in future lines to complement each other. Swashbuckler - I really like the torso and look forward to seeing more Pirate MOCs, with a more 'loveable rogue' character rather than the usual cut-throat or bumbling pirate villains. It's a shame they didn't add a parrot (a blue version of the classic red one). Gamer - I like his torso but the face is spoiled by the open mouth, which is a shame as I'd like more figures with glasses. I'm not fussed about the controller but it's nice to have more generic townfolk.- 1,109 replies

Which stores around London to visit?
lifeinplastic replied to Cy-Gor's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Your other option of course is Legoland Windsor if you fancy making a day of it - only a relatively short distance from London and accessible by train. However, if you are going on a day trip, especially with non-Lego aficionados, a trip down to Brighton on the coast is fun and only takes an hour by train (but there is a Lego Brand Store there!) I think Hamleys is in Regent Street (just off Oxford Street), which is very central but don't recall them having a Pick a Brick wall. Harrods is an interesting experience but like a lot of London, it is very expensive. You'd be better off visiting High Street chains for reduced-priced sets like WH Smiths, Argos, The Entertainer, etc. I would suggest the Westfield in Shepherd's Bush as already suggested - my Mum was born there - but it's also probably the most accessible from Central London. I remember when the Kingston Lego Shop near me closed and I had to travel to Bluewater in Kent each time. It was a mission getting my Café Corner and other sets back on the train! Enjoy your trip Cy-Gor! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
lifeinplastic replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Speaking of Alexandre Boudon, has anybody mentioned if the 'Piggy Guy' will be one of his 3 little pig designs rather than the usual minifig in animal costume? I like the costumed characters so I hope not but his designs are great. http://thebrickblogger.com/2013/07/lego-minifigs-by-alexandre-boudon/- 1,109 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
lifeinplastic replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Space Miner - Power Miners/Rock Raiders? - this doesn't really appeal to me. Are there many female space miners? Battle Goddess (female) - no idea what a Battle Goddess is - it sounds mythological. Probably a tough female character to balance any criticism of the Fairytale Princess (traditionally a 'weak' character in stories). Wizard - Hopefully the hat and main colour will be something different from previous wizards, maybe purple or something that isn't blue or grey. Dino Tracker - not really sure if this is just an archaeologist/explorer or something more sci-fi. I was hoping for a jungle explorer with a toucan as a new piece or blue macaw using the parrot). Could be the 5th female. Swashbuckler - Swashbuckler sounds like a more 'dandy' version of the pirate. Female pirate like Anne Bonney? Jester - Same as the one we had before but possibly a change of colour - do you get female jesters? Piggy Guy - I do like the animal costumes. I would have preferred a different animal (teddy bear, koala or a beaver) Hun Warrior - I have been expecting something like this for some time. Will please the Historical/Castle fans Fairytale Princess (female) - Classic damsel in distress - another one for the Castle fans. Pizza Delivery Man - Hopefully a nice addition to Lego City - bring back 6350 Pizzeria! Video Game Guy - I can imagine either thick glasses or 'square' eyes print. Hopefully a new teenage town citizen. Spooky Girl (female) - hopefully not a monster but a Halloween costume kid (black torso and legs with skeleton pattern) Prospector - I am thinking of Stinky Pete in Toy Story 2 - an ideal addition to the Wild West theme. Genie Girl (female) - I would prefer an evil red male genie. Rock Star - possibly the other female? Hopefully will have a guitar or even better a keytar! Lifeguard - presumably a male counterpart to the Series 2 female lifeguard (hopefully with red shorts like Baywatch) Presumably if this is true then there is a 5th female figure included but not obvious from the description, if this follows the boy/girl ratio in recent series. Personally not enough City figures for me and looks like I'll still have to wait for the bellhop, Elvis, barbershop quartet, orchestra and marching band figures. Also there aren't any sports figures - I would have thought a golfer would have been a dead cert for this series.- 1,109 replies

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
lifeinplastic replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
Lego have definitely missed a trick by not producing moulded reindeer here, which would probably have made me by this set. As it goes, the building isn't anything special, there are no new torsos or hat colours for the elves (let alone striped leg printing), the candy canes also remind me of the missed chance to release a minifigure one with the gingerbread man or CMF Santa's helper. It is very frustrating when Lego produce brick built animals as they simply don't fit in with other moulded creatures. "Here is a pig, ostrich, goat, horse, camel, seagull, etc and a great big blocky reindeer!" As clever as it is built, it is more something you would build in Creationary than something that should be part of a system scale Lego set. 2/10 - but only due to the reasonably nice sleigh. -
I am very impressed with the Mixer. Like many it seems, watching the video shows that the set is very well designed. At first glance I was not that impressed as the colours were very basic. However, it is refreshing to see more 'civilian' life depicted in a Lego City environment. I would certainly welcome a continuation of this theme... DODGEMS - I remember somebody once showing a video of some impressive, fully working, Lego fairground-style bumper cars. Does anybody recall this? The set was very well designed and it was a video only (no pics). CIRCUS - I often associate fairgrounds with the circus. Duplo has provided many circus themed sets over the years. However, I think the main draw to the Mixer is its playability, which a Big Top wouldn't have as there would be few moveable parts, etc. The minifigs would be good though. GHOST TRAIN - Fairground meets Monster Fighters! GAMES/FOOD STANDS - The Mixer is obviously an expensive set and I think there will be many here who do not buy it as a result, despite liking the fairground concept. I would appreciate some smaller, more affordable sets. Small rides would be great but individual game stalls or food carts (coconut shy, candyfloss stand) would be ideal.

Playmobil are celebrating their 40th birthday! I used to have a few sets as a child but it didn't quite intrigue me the same as Lego. However, I often looked at their City sets hoping that Lego equivalents would be made. Therefore to honour Playmobil's anniversary, which sets (past or present) would you most like to see 'Lego-ised'? p.s. I am looking mainly for City sets discussion although other themes most welcome.

Lego needs to take a look back at the Metroliner to see what a decent train set looks like. My favourite set ever. I remember spending hours building it one Christmas. The carriages had variant instructions - there were so many passengers and accessories. Not forgetting the add on Club Car set. This looks like the shortest railway platform in the world and 3 minifigures? Come on Lego, you should be better than this...

Actually a Reverend Lovejoy figure would be a good method of introducing a priest minifig torso, which could be used for non-Simpsons MOCs. I might actually buy one then, as I only buy licensed figures if they can be used in a 'normal' Lego City environment. I don't wish to start a lengthy "Lego won't make religious figures" discussion but just thought that as he is an existing character of a theme they have a license for then consequently this would be more possible than before. Now if only there was a licensed theme with a nun...

Discussion Should LEGO make a Military Theme?
lifeinplastic replied to KisKatona's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't really see the need for a Lego military theme. Having seen other people's MOCs it seems there are parts available for people to build decent tanks, helicopters, etc. I'm also not really sure kids would be that bothered about having a 'real world' military theme above any existing fictional conflict. One suggestion I have previously made is to include a UN soldier in a CMF line as this would not have to represent a single nation's military and would portray a peacekeeping force rather than being seen as an aggressor. Underneath the traditional blue helmet and bib could be a khaki/army torso, which collectors could then use in their own military MOCs. -
REVIEW: 71005 LEGO Minifigures - The LEGO Simpsons Series
lifeinplastic replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Licensed
I won't bother with this line. I like the Simpsons as a TV show but have no need to include them as part of my Lego creations. I am sure they will sell well but I am disappointed that Lego sets are becoming too model-collector orientated and limiting people's creativity. Don't get me wrong, I think the Minifigures series are an integral part of Lego, allowing roles that aren't necessarily available in standard sets. However, there are still a lot of non-licensed figures that haven't yet been made and I am pleased the next series to be revealed will hopefully be back to normal. I cannot wait for pictures and the customary White Fang Review of the real Series 12!- 118 replies

Yes, I'm not particularly interested in having Simpsons Lego sets (I don't mind the show but I don't like licensed themes particularly). However, I am interested to see the torsos and accessories which may fit well with regular yellow minifigs. Is there anybody who has bought the house that could take some photos of the Simpsons torsos and accessories being used on regular figures? - even better if they can show a range of hairstyles, faces etc. I'm sure I'm not the only person who would appreciate it. I'm also curious about Maggie and whether this piece will be used for Lego babies in future. Thanks

I agree with the comments above - a selection of smaller, affordable sets would be ideal as I often pass on sets which are too expensive but would buy one part in particular. A bus would be great (or something like the white and lime green coach from the Public Transport set a few years back). Some normal cars would also be appreciated in individual sets with a range new civilian minifigures (more children and elderly people. I like the winter village sets (although wish they would allow more unique parts to be made for these sets - the brick built instruments for example). It would be good to have a summer equivalent similar to Paradisa but not for girls (more summer weather clothing, etc). One small vehicle I'd like to see is a tuk tuk like those in Bangkok and other Asian cities, which led me to start thinking about more 'Around The World' sets - perhaps a Venetian Gondola, a New York Taxi, an African Safari 4x4 (all minifig scale). I also wish there were more 'filler' sets for cities which don't include any buildings but would include bushes, plants, flowers, trees, etc plus statues, lamp posts, traffic lights and a decent number of minifigs.

2 krustys? Although I like the tv show I'm not too bothered about this line and will only buy any if they have a useful accessory which is compatible with Lego city. Looking forward to seeing pics as this will mean the real series 12 will be the next line revealed. Don't really understand why itchy and scratchy are included as they don't really fit in with the scale of the buildings. A school bus set would be good with Otto, Sherri and Terri, Ralph, Martin and Nelson.

2014 - Best and Biggest LEGO Year Ever?
lifeinplastic replied to TheBrickPal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Biggest, maybe, but I'm sure calling it the best will be down to individual opinions. The Lego Movie has no doubt brought attention to a wider audience (lots of people coming out of the woodwork claiming to be huge Lego fans - much the same as when Star Wars sets were first launched). Just how many will be retained post-Movie hype remains to be seen but I think the film will prove to be successful in this respect. However, I actually thought the film could have been a lot better and was personally very disappointed with it although I realise I probably am not the key target audience. I think many fans feel they have to like it just for the fact it is Lego. Chima just doesn’t appeal to me at all and neither does Ninjago but at least these are Lego’s own brands. I know many Castle fans were disappointed with the latest offerings and any potential return to the Western theme was denied in favour of the Lone Ranger line. To me, Lego seems to have ‘sold out’ to licensed themes in recent years, creating a lot of specific parts for these themes and letting core themes fall by the wayside. A good example is the Ostrich and Camel from Prince of Persia being released, although Lego City (a representation of the modern World) still lacks a lot of common animal moulds despite decades worth of sets. It is also sad that themes like Pharoah’s Quest and Monster Fighters are only given a very short run as attention is focussed on licenses. I also feel that a lot of the Super Hero sets are just minifigs plus a few token bricks included to justify the high prices and that Lego has now become focussed on catering to the action figure collectors. I know this is obviously successful and profitable for them but I am disappointed that these have eclipsed the classic products I have always admired. In my opinion the Collectible Minifigures have been one of the best concepts introduced by Lego in the past 5 years, allowing characters which would usually not appear in standard sets to be purchased but I was sad to see these put on the backburner in place of a Simpsons line in 2014. Lego used to run with the tagline ‘Just Imagine…’ but nowadays figures already come with their own character backgrounds and storylines, as well as ideas of how they should already look, leaving very little to individual imagination... -
I really hate these promotional figures - I have been countless times to buy one at the cinema but they never have any. No doubt staff have taken first pick, plus people buying in bulk to sell on at a later stage. Another kick in the teeth to lifelong Lego fans. GRRRRRRRR!!!
-
I would disagree about the Horizon Express front as I thought that looked far too messy. Sometimes specialist parts are the answer in my opinion, not always but in this case I feel it looks a lot better.
-
The Midtown Condo is one of my favourite MOCs ever so please don't dismantle it!!! Seriously - it's a great build.
-
The new white passenger train looks fine to me although I also share others concerns about the price of certain sets. For me a passenger train should have a lot of minifigs. Still disappointed we don't have an Australian train (The Ghan and Indian-Pacific) with a small Outback station and kangaroos.
