I agree with you as well. Nothing wrong with the steering. I don't even think the lift height is a problem, since heavy duty forklifts are built to move cargo around rather than stacking it.

Don't ask me, man. I had trouble getting the angle of those bloody knob wheels in the Claas silage plough correct. -
It's like @Sariel says - 42082 just doesn't look that large. 42055 would most definitely make it look small.

Tractor tyres on a mobile crane? What is this, Spintires? That poor Technic figure is in for a bumpy ride... Seriously though, this looks mighty cool and highly complex. I like the use of the Volvo engine blocks.

Couple of years ago there was a SyFy original series called Helix that showed on Channel Five over here. It had a typical virus-is-loose setup, but it elevated the concept of "ridiculously bad" to sheer art. It was so utterly terrible that I just couldn't stop watching it. I even got the DVD! So sometimes, being ridiculously bad can actually work in a show's favour. -
I know 8248 was my first proper Technic set. I struggled with it a bit back then, but now I'd probably knock it out.

I'm with @Saberwing40k and @WvG_853 on this one all the way. This set is too big for its purpose and, aside from some slabs and an opening cab door, does little more than 8270 from 2007 - which has faster outriggers, by the way!

This set reminds me of 8248 from 1998, which, funnily enough, I built when I was a kid. 42079 even has the same models: a forklift and a tow truck. Granted, 8248 is a bit more futuristic, though.

It's definitely a fusion of those two machines, with some original design (the cab placement for example) thrown in. The sheer innovation and boldness of 42080 are certainly points in its favour.

I think the macaroni pieces are a bit overdone here, and I get the feeling the designer (Alfred Pedersen?) just went nuts with them. Plus they're in a colour found nowhere else in the set. Maybe a few more parts in dark metallic grey would balance them out a bit.
