  1. I will create a fourth thread to discuss about the utility/purpose of the 3 other threads. Does anyone has an idea of what could be the fifth thread ?
  2. Disagreed. If you can analyse the heart of the Unimog, you will see that it is faaaaar from being well optimised. But still a good model. :p edit : @ zblj : yep, you are right.
  3. I do not totally agree, but I see your point. I have never understood how people can be easily impressed by big things. Yes it is big, so what ? I generally pay way more attention to how things are designed. For instance, the U-joints we can see on the boom of the crane is really meh. This is the kind of "easy solution" we see in AFOL creations. :-/
  4. Well, I am not an expert in engines, but I guess that V engines, L engines and flat engine all have their advantages and drawbacks. Do you imagine a vehicule like a hurricane using 2 different kinds of engine ? I think it is important to use the same technology for the same features in a vehicle. It is a matter of "consistency".
  5. 1) Lock that thread 2) Delete all the messages excepted the first 3) Let a modo update the post.
  6. Pneum and LA in the same set ? What a very very big error of taste... How hell can a designer make such a newbie mistake ?
  7. But most of the sets of that scale are not as innovative as 8109.
  8. I think it is better with a 2 stud wide arm. It indeed needs to be visually bigger than the outriggers. Moreover, with 1 stud wide, the hinges will not have enough clutch power. And some part do not enable to make the build in 1 stud wide (for example, the 2x2 thin round part on each section) What do you mean ? That's just a greeble. The thing is supposed to be a small numerical control machine.
  9. Did you ever look at its chassis ? There is absolutely no room left for any other mechanism in it...
  10. Hello, Here is my latest MOC. A 337 part crane truck with forklift. The features : hinged and rotating crane, outriggers, tiled bed for easy loading and unloading, controls, fonctionnal forklift. Some pics : The flickR gallery : And the Brickshelf gallery : http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=521512 The hardest part to design was the forklift because the wheels do not feet very well the Lego system IMO. It is not easy to deal with their dimensions. Hope you like.
  11. Good point. Rating a model with an average of the several rates just doesn't make sense. When you rate the model, you have to take a look at the whole model, to value it, and say, "overall, I think it deserves X / 10". I guess some of you read video game tests or stuff like that. In such a test, you will never read that the final rate is an average of all the other rates.
  12. Agreed. And given that 8880B has just a small gearbox and no special feature, I would say that this 42000 is even better than 888 B.
  13. What you call color vomit can be explained. Colors are not choosen randomly. ;) But I doubt it is the right thread to explain this.
  14. I guess you never spoke with a Lego designer. A Lego set is not well designed because someone claim it is well designed. It is well designed because the designer made tons of skecth models to find the best compromise. Ok, ok, there are some rare exceptions where we can see some problems and some questionable design choices. But overall, 99% the official models are very well thought with clever choices. Cleverer choices than most AFOLs do with their own MOCs. And it is just "normal" if you consider the time a Lego designer spend on each of his models. :)
  15. It appears to me that you are missing something. For example, saying that Lego should have made 8258 or 42009 with 2 more motors for the model to drive and steer remotely, it is not a constructive criticism. It is a noob comment from someone who does not understand the goals of a set, what adds value to a Lego model, and what an official set has to comply with. :/
  16. You can built with 3D softs what can be considered as "simple", technically speaking. Otherwise, I recommend you to buy some stuff and try with real parts.
  17. True. And also when the build tends to be out of the system (tricky angles, etc, both regarding functions and esthetical aspects). In this situation, designing through 3D soft is a nightmare.
  18. You just can't wait for pictures instead of posting pointless messages again, again, and again ?
  19. 1 BB, 1 motor, 1 switch. 4 motorized functions (2 LA's, extend boom, cable, outriggers). 4 axle steering. fake engine on middle axle. Manual rotating structure. Next. -_-
  20. Imagine it is grey. https://www.youtube....BYOetv38 It would suck. Really.
  21. The shape is not such a big problem if you choose the appropriate scale. But regarding the other reasons, yes, it seems difficult to achieve a Naboo Royal Starship as releasable and cheap product.
  22. 1) C'mon ! Lego parts are cheaper in the US on BL, and on the s@h 3) Technic is not appreciated in US because Americans do not like pneumatic ? You are kidding right ?
