  1. Shipping is relationship-(ing) as in, X Character is involved with Y Character (Or more often than not XY with XY and XX with XX... ) take characters from any media property and write a story where they are in a relationship. Trash, in this instance is "a person or people regarded as being of very low social standing." Applied to myself in a self-deprecating kind of way as I am a sucker for a cute pairing whether it is an actually depicted in the media property (So, I dunno, fleshing out the relationship between a Disney Prince and Princess) or one that did not exist, never existed or was only pointed out in subtext clues of some piece of media. I appreciate that it can be a weird part of the internet where the Fanfiction lives and again, I am one of those ones who write (under other web handles, naturally, I have a reputation which I have now tarnished!) A LEGO website about LEGO, in a discussion over unpopular opinions of LEGO/TLG is not where one will pull out their notebook and share all their personal narratives for characters or their own minifig creations. Now if you have made a MOC, Brick Film or Comic to depict it, go ahead and post it in the right forum! Enjoy the rock, sometimes I wish I could go back under it.
  2. Can we all agree that we can Fanfic the heck out of named characters and leave it on AO3 where it belongs. (I am unashamed shipping trash. but that is for fanfic sites, not LEGO sites.) Minifigures are little plastic humanoids and kids can and will apply whatever they want to the character of the figure. No one has a universal experience, nothing can fully represent the scope of humanity in a mass produced object. LEGO as a toy is magnificently customisable, so you can encompass whatever you like. Oh, people also have to remember to keep things polite. Keep in mind that while some members are better placed to articulate their thoughts and muse in an empathetic manner, others struggle with English as a second language or a cultural/ life experience far divorced from an individual's personal one. The flip side: some people hold dearly to their opinion, position and experience, try not to tread on any toes. Cheers.
  3. People are steal, then they can sell it on. Especially the trade in Minifigures,
  4. Yeah, maybe don't. Or you'll have a bit more trouble than a MOD popping to ask you to Knock It Off. Don't be an ass. That goes for everyone. This has been a Peppermint PSA.
  5. True, but this is from an architectural standpoint and not religious. There is no symbol of religion, just the presence of a historically and architecturally important structure as a feature of a skyline, it cannot be ignored. It would be a different thing altogether if they sold a St Paul's Cathedral set, or an Aisha Mosque set (or insert major religious structure here). Ho hum.
  6. Yep. That there is a LEGO cryptid.
  7. The buy/sell section is inaccessible to members under a certain post count. Dual purpose: EB is not a storefront or marketplace, so people joining just to sell are put off and also, people buying/selling have been on the forum for long enough that they have some level of trustworthiness. As for the request: Sorry, I have no red motors. only some very old grey ones.
  8. Something people seem to be forgetting is that LEGO is not the only company that will progress/change over the years leading up to this "50 years time" people are mentioning. Technology will advance and infrastructure will advance, people will move along with it. If you told someone 50 years ago about a smart phone and what it could do, they would think you were crazy or a weird futurist. I grew up in the 90s and whenever we struggled with maths in school or I flunked a mental arithmetic test, the teacher would trot out the old "You won't always have a calculator in your pocket". Now I do. Sure, I can do quick sums when needed, but for anything else I can tot it up on the calculator pre-installed on my phone. There are things we have now that were never imagined. Sure, Back to the Future had hoverboards and flying cars in 2015, but at the same time there were fax machines and no mobile phones! People will change with the times too. They will not expect paper printed things. Sure; I love books and keep so many of them. But instructions and other magazines/pamphlets are slowly being replaced with digital. After all, it is a waste of paper to print out something like that, costs more to produce and is worse for the environment... Irony ( specific, definition 2) TLG realises, hence the online/app based instructions where the theme or set already depends on an app.
  9. If screen time caused brain rot, humanity would have been extinct decades ago. As it is, we continue to adapt and innovate.
  10. Brings a classic to mind: There was electronic lights and motors in the 70s. The 80s introduced all kinds of electronic additions to Technic. LEGO is simply keeping up with the times. Adding new technology to their brick toys.
  11. I had a few other rattles and a number of other Duplo sets I remember really clearly, I loved to make towers out of them all. The thing is, it never ever stopped. LEGO was always my first choice of toy, or gift request (next to books) and continued to be my favourite. Heck, I never had a dark age, i kept on buying! That set was the seed to it all.
  12. Quack. In the newborn baby pack that got given to my mum when I was born.
  13. Cool extra information about a brand I still have plenty of odd bricks, some of them are great quality. These days I use them when displaying for kids to play with.
  14. Got to point out: The clothing and other not LEGO brick things are all collaborations. TLG is not producing the clothes, lunchboxes, trainers and storage boxes. They are licencing out their brand. The onus of success is on the heads of the partner company. A contrast to their last foray into extra product that nearly bankrupted the company.
  15. We want to encourage people to share MOCs, so restricting someone in a way that prevents it was decided to be a bad idea. Or, someone might come in and post ten nonsense posts to allow them more access. This particular offender is just an aggravating person, most tools used to prevent spammers on the forum are successful.
  16. In addition to that above, in the UK there was a documentary about LEGO on Channel 4 that mentioned some focus groups were local children in the area who were the target demographic for City and Friends. This was just one of the groups though, and it was mentioned external agencies also did focus group testing. It was called the Secret World of LEGO and I can't find it online right now... However if I could just leave this here: Focus groups do not get it 100%, they are just one of many tools to use when developing something.
  17. Can you both knock it off? We are supposed to be adults on this forum. I am going to extract your nonsense arguments and ask you to behave in a civil manner. While this is not an excellent thread for being civil as a whole, can personal arguments be kept out of it.
  18. So, after all this confessional from people: Yeah, staff know that people under 18 join up. We are also aware that a lot of you haven't read any of the rules for the forum. Anyway: The forum has the 18 plus rule so that there is some modicum of maturity to interactions and because there are a lot of rules for websites that are actually for children (Think the COPPA issues on Youtube) that we do not want to have to deal with. Also, the A in AFOL is Adult. Sure, kids like LEGO, but a website for adult fans of LEGO is not a place for children. I have a good memory for those who are certainly not old enough and those who are suspicious, so behave well and I won't need to have a talk with you.
  19. Considering Action and Adventure themes exists because of NinjaGo, it already technically is the NinjaGo forum. All the other themes that have come since or were moved to Action Themes (as it was) so that this new theme with Ninjas, that did not fit with the historic themes, had somewhere to be discussed. Adventure came later, as Elves also did not fit in with Historic, but it was also not City/Town.
  20. Oh, I would love to be able to get 1000 of the brick wall bricks; 1000 of each production colour. Mmm, just what my MOCing needs.
  21. Got to say, we were thinking of phasing out the "Ladies" tag, it felt a bit outdated. Sure, ten years ago it was useful but these days it feels really dated and awkward. Though, I don't really care if someone "misgenders" me on the internet, face to face can offend though!
  22. Ah, those figures have such excellent design! I was pleasantly surprised at the "reasonable" prices (as in, they won't break the bank and the Supermarkets will be dropping the prices decently). However I am very happy that they have made some super unique designs.
  23. I am! Johnny Thunder and his brother Tommy Thunder! If only lockdown had not scuppered my plans to display!
  24. It was in the first series of Harry Potter CMFs, so I would expect it to be. I found it on the Bricklink site by searching "saucer" and "Tea" should also work. As the software uses the bricklink database, I should hope their search algorithm does the same thing in each.
  25. TFOL would help solve a big problem for us staff! Anyone who asks to be part of it we know to ban as they are underaged to be on the forum! Sure, we know there are those users who must be under 18, but they are smart enough to not go advertising it. I will quote: Makes me consider if you too fall in the Under 18 bracket, OP. Lira_Bricks has a very good point there. Why are people obsessed with labels and groupings? We're all Fans of LEGO, that is all that matters here. Other tags and titles are shared on staff discretion, if you stand out and make a good impression, these fun things come to you.
