Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Withacee replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I guess it depends on the country you live in. Also, VIP members usually get early access.I'm in The Netherlands, and over here, sets get released a lot earlier than in some other countries. -
What a great creation. You're building up quite a reputation! I love the fact that the building has two rectangular sections, seen from above, instead of just being one rectangular box. The oven, the restaurant and the bar are great. I don't know if the windows would work even better in white instead of brown. I assume the dark green one at the back is a personal brown-window-shortage? Keep clicking those bricks together!

Kwik-E-Mart still readily available in The Netherlands at lego.com. So is Parisian Restaurant. Funny thing, though... If I search for them at the lego site, they show up as Sold out. But if I click the search result, the items shows up as "Available now". Mind you, I am logged in as VIP at that point.

Sandro, you kill me, man! Another brilliant Winter village MOC, at least as good as all your others. I love the colours on this one, and the interior is spot on, as usual. Your creations are very special. The "Pub and cafe" sign next to the door might look nice as a transparent window, too, although I noticed the coffee machine is on the other side of the wall, so nothing to see through that window . An interesting option for a "viskraam", in stead of the standard truck like this http://www.vishandel-almere.nl/images/viskar-volendammer-vishandel-nico-tol-medium.jpg would be an original vintage "viskar" or "haringkar", like these, which would fit in quite nicely, in my opinion. Should be doable in bricks. I love these, I've seen them at the market loads of times in The Netherlands: http://www.skippy-rent.nl/pics/skippy-rent/shop/producten/details/Viskar_donkerhout.jpg http://www.wijgert.nl/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Haringkar-vo.jpg http://www.deinumscatering.nl/application/files/3714/2168/2236/viskar.jpeg

Another lovely scene, snaillad. The whole thing just works brilliantly together, both the design and the colour combinations. Atmosphere reminds me of your, equally great, Studdington station. Keep clicking those bricks together!

Yes, ever since that Winter village set arose, they became available on both Lego and BL (cheaper at Lego). We used a different colour arches a few years back to begin with, and after the winter village set came out, we replaced them with dark blue.

Thanks for taking the time to review this one, Armstrong. I love the motor cycles in this set. I can use this for one of my next MOCs (cycle/scooter shop). The car looks nice, but the absence of doors and side windows are a bit of a let-down, and I think it's a pity both crooks have the same torso. Glad to see I'm not the only one who hates that brat on the back of the manual

A lovely building so far, Derbaerov! The dark tan works very well here, and I like the use of the palisade bricks on the side of the façade, which creates a nice effect with the adjacent masonry bricks. A slight bit of colour as points of interest on the façade, in the form of a few window sill planters and/or one of those signs on the pavement, and a lamp, perhaps? Please do keep us posted, and keep clicking those bricks together!

The wheel can be manually operated by turning the crank in the back. The motor and battery pack are not included, but have to be bought separately. It's dead easy to build them into the set. The battery pack has an on/off switch, and one for the direction in which the wheel turns. One disadvantage is that the motor has a fixed speed. If you want variable speed, you need an extra thingy (a remote control of some kind), with which I have no experience.

Wow, some absolutely brilliant interiors there! Great part usage and colour combinations, too. I learn a lot from that. Keep clicking those bricks together!

That this will not work for other BL-members is normal; in their lists that number does not exist (it is globally unique). Removing the number in the XML, leaving the tag empty, will result in the XML being added to the Main Wanted list of the member uploading it. Which could pose a problem, if that list was not empty to begin with. Simplest alternative is to make other people create a new wanted list in their account, and use the number of that wanted list in the XML file using search and replace. Or write a simple tool that does it for them

Love what you've done here; looks very dynamic, as if you captured the moment. Mind you, in Hemingway's story, the fish was a lot bigger, but I suppose one has to start somewhere, as a young fisherman

Love it; at first (well, being Dutch...), I thought about the bicycle path in a different colour as well, but the fact that you separated it with a dark red tile makes it work nicely in the complete picture. A variant for the bicycle path might be sand red or something in flesh, but hey, try to get a few thousand tiles in those colours... Love your work. Keep clicking those bricks together! PS Press down on the 1x6 LBG tile in front of the GE, please Edit: Ah, I just noticed it's the base plate curving upwards.

Thanks, Bob, for putting the time and effort in for this great review. I'm no fan of this set; the lack of a minidoll is one, but I think, in general, it lacks creativity and imagination. With a bit more effort, this could have looked great; the idea has a lot of potential, and definitely fits in with the Friends theme.

Nice one, we've always wanted to see what this IR can do.We'll check it out, thanks. From what I read above, I consider myself privileged; in The Netherlands, we've had access to this set through lego.com since May 1st ("VIP access", normal access since June 1st). Delivery in 5 days.

MOC: City Layout - with new motorized Square Tram & Ferris Wheel
Withacee replied to Zusammengebaut's topic in LEGO Town
Looks like there's a link in the video to the tutorial of motorising the tram. Great scene, Zusammengebaut! It all fits very well together (even the mini-Eiffel tower ), and the video looks very professional, like all videos on your channel. Keep clicking those bricks together! -
Great builds, Yooha! I especially like the fork lift, the floor cleaner and the transformer station. Keep clicking those bricks together!

LDD or LDraw for a newbie
Withacee replied to Isundir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I agree LDD is a lot easier to get started, mainly for the auto-snap functions and the flexible zoom- and rotate interface. The LDraw format provides a lot better options for creating instruction manuals, though. You can autogenerate one with LDD, but they are usually pretty bad, especially for the more complicated models. There are a few other options. I find jBrickBuilder promising; it combines the LDraw format with autoconnect. Still in Beta, though. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=105777&hl=jbrickbuilder -
Nice one! I like the wing doors and the rear. I don't know if all parts are available in these colours, but that can be easily changed. Keep clicking those bricks together!

I shall put them on my flickr in the next few days, and post the link here. One serious problem with this set, as did DA, is the annoying decision of TLG to revert to one instruction manual for the whole set. In this case, it was less of a problem, because the wheel and the pillars consist of two identical halves, but this makes it virtually impossible to build with two people. I loved the fact that the other modulars had one manual per floor. Quik-E-mart has the same problem: one huge 250-odd page manual. The pdf just doesn't work quite as well as the hard-copy.

Hey "Loves houses", thanks for your comment! I had not considered 2x6, but I definitely will. It means more arches and therefore more pillars, so I shall see in LDD what the consequences of that will be. It might make the pavement area too dark, but I shall test it with real bricks if I like the outcome. Thanks everyone! You've been very kind and helpful.

I know the original design of this one, and I must say, you changed it to such an extent that one could call this a MOC. And an absolutely nice one it is. I love it, especially the interior. The tree in the back is also lovely. Keep clicking those bricks together!

My wife and I built it last weekend. It was a lovely build, nice to do with the two of us (we could split the build of the pillars, the wheel and the carriages). The only fiddly bit was connecting the two halves of the wheel together, but, since we had four hands between us, it was no problem. I do not agree that the set should be on a 48x48 base plate. The design of the base, leaving an empty space in the back feels right. With a base plate, one would have too much empty space. But that's personal opinion. PS We motorised it as well, and it was good, but the speed was a bit too high in our opinion, with the default motor. We'll work on that.
