  1. Out of curiosity, why did you choose to go with this mini engine instead of a more standard one? I am not knocking the design at all because I think overall it looks great, but that engine looks kind of disproportionate to the rest of the car, especially having it positioned in front of the wheels and sitting so low. Much like the 42056, you have what appears to be a great gearbox idea, but you can't really show it off.
  2. Great looking cars. Question about the manual version, that mini V8 that sits way up in the front, can you actually see it when you open the hood or is it just a noise maker?
  3. Having all four of those models here right now I can say that it is definitely tougher than the assassin model. The problem you are describing sounds like when you open the rear end area. It is only attached and supported by 2 axles and when opened is kind of wobbly and shuts easily if you bump it. There is just too much mass here. The rest of the body seems fine. Unlike the Predator model, you can pick the Scorpion model up any way that you want, front and back or by the sides. I had forgotten until I took pictures with my Scorp and the Predator side by side that you can't pick the Predator up by the sides without the system bricks falling off. I kept doing this and had to keep replacing them over and over and would tell myself "Stop picking it up like that!" and would do it again anyway. Unless you built your Predator differently than mine, you also may have also run into this problem. I have an issue with the Porsche too, like those long flex axles on the sides of the roof that are connected together by the axle joiner. They seem like they are always coming apart. It may sound stupid, but the orange flex axles feel looser than the other colors to me. The Porsche overall is pretty solid except in a few areas, but the downfall is that it weighs quite a bit. And I don't know about your model, but the front suspension in my Porsche is completely dead which I blame on a poor structural design. They should have had 4 shocks in the front. If people don't like the looks of the Scorpion, they can always build the excellent chassis and do their own body work. You can no doubt pick up some great ideas from this moc. And besides, the instructions are free. I am thinking about building a second chassis and trying my hand at my own body design for it.

  5. IMO, it's on par with the NK Predator which is probably the best Lego Like supercar out there. I've built 5 of Paul's cars and this one is hands down the best he has done. You can see the evolution of his skill throughout each build. This model has something that Lego's own Porsche model was severely lacking and that is playability. In this model it's not hard to change gears and you are not stressing or bending the parts when you do so. Not to mention you can actually see what is happens after you do change gears. The HOG steering is easy to use and the suspension is not dead(which is something that I am highly pissed about in the front of my Porsche). You won't be disappointed.
  6. I like that revised spoiler better. It was too long before because it was over hanging dead space where there was no body underneath it.

What I like about the look and design of this model is when you have it built and it is sitting in front of you, it feels like a real model that you would get from Lego because of the many clever techniques used and the model is very solid. I've built several other MOCs by builders who had models that looked great, but they turned out to be very flimsy(body, doors, chassis, etc.) Every time you pick them up something would fall off, panels or pieces had to be positioned properly on friction pins, not to mention illegal or questionable building connections. It is especially frustrating when you pay for instructions and things don't work like they do in the videos they present. I too am very interested in building Jeroen's model as well.
  8. Did you try those small panels on the spoiler with the angled end pointing forwards? Curious if it would look more aggressive like that.
  9. I have my Scorpion model right here in front of me on my coffee table. When the car is in first gear(which has he most resistance) I can effortlessly roll the car forwards and backwards(just like Paul does in his video). In fact, I almost rolled it right off the table. Like Eric said the model really is professionally designed all around. The gearbox is smooth and when you shift gears, you really feel like you just shifted a gear.
  10. I had already seen this white version on Facebook and it is simply amazing looking. I was contemplating picking up one of those Decool sets for the panels and build my own version in white or possibly just paint the required panels that I already own from my official Porsche set. I too am not a big fan of these imitation Lego sets, so I can definitely see where nychase is coming from, but Paul also makes a very good point about the numerous threads that are permitted here of models using 3rd party materials to make them either look how they do or perform the way that they do. I've seen quite a few mocs here get high praise even though they were not using 100% Lego parts. It is a bit hypocritical to say one non Lego element is acceptable over another non Lego element. I have also noticed that it is not unusual for the front page of this very website to advertise aftermarket minifig accessories along with custom printed figures that can be purchased from online stores. I guess rules can be bent when it is something that suits your own needs.
  11. Awesome. I like how this turned out. It has a cool dune buggy racer vibe going on. Sad to hear that the suspension didn't work without the torsion bars. It's not so much the axle that I was concerned with as much as the parts that the axle is inserted into possibly cracking over time.
  12. I think it would have been awesome if Lego made a special 40th anniversary set of one of the classic models using new parts. That 3 set combination model doesn't seem very appealing to me. The seats are especially goofy looking.
  13. Nice model! The only area I am not crazy about is the connectors in the front sharing 2 flexible axles. They look like they are ready to fall out.

  15. I didn't notice this on my model because on the Technic Facebook Page you said that the round pieces and pins were not really needed, so I didn't use them in the front or the back.

  18. I don't know. That area in front of the rear wheels doesn't flow very well with the rest of the car.
  19. So there is no play in that red clutch gear on the pin? I just know that when a gear wobbles, it creates friction.
  20. I like this concept. But the one issue I can see is those connectors on the axle. I've built some gearboxes from some very talented builders who used the connector on the axle technique and there was always some fine tuning that needed to be applied. Also not real keen on that red clutch gear on just that pin. Seems like it would be a little wobbly since that pin has play in it and without any support on the other side which could cause some friction.

  23. You said this model was built on commission, just out of curiosity, what do you charge for a commissioned piece like this one?
  24. You're probably right. The wheel arches do take up more room. I guess it's hard to have a longer front end when you are already shaving some off with the arches, so it created the illusion that it is too short. I think one other thing that is making it look "stubby" is that flex axle near the inside of the headlight. It is kind of curving up into the air instead of just curving forward and down. The real car has more of a defined point towards the nose. Yours kind of looks like it is angling upwards more.
