[MOC] Porsche 911

Looks good. How is the friction with all of those gears? I think you are bending your rear hubs or the axle those #1 connectors are on. -
[MOC] Lancia Stratos 1:8 Scale

Ok, I am a member there. I see the post. 435 likes and 77 comments of people telling him how great that it is. Some are saying it should be a real set from Lego and others claiming that it is better than the 42056 Porsche. He says his next model will be a 959 Porsche Paris Dakar. I wonder who's model he'll copy for that. This really is sad. The only thing making his model look good is the overuse of colorful stickers. Other than that, it is rather poor. -

That is a dead link, what group does it belong to? I am a member of many Lego groups on Facebook. -
[MOC] Lancia Stratos 1:8 Scale

I just noticed this rather weak interpretation of your model at Lego ideas. I know two people can do the same model without knowing, but this one seems to have a lot of your design in it. -

Don't forget about the gear swap in the rear to get the proper shifting sequence. -

Ok, I finished the chassis last night. Everything is exactly as in the instructions except I used the old hubs for the front and I used modified driving rings for easy sliding. I also used Blakbird's mod for the friction. I tested out both the gear pattern the way Lego has it and the way Paul advised. There is no difference in resistance either way and with Paul's idea, the gears shift in the proper order. No doubt in my mind this was an error by Lego in their instructions and they just don't want to admit it. Why would you release a model that shifts out of order when there is absolutely no reason to? Only problem is that often 2 gears engage at the same time unless you really pull hard on the paddles, but this results in a lot of flexing on those parts. -
I would have to say that if the heart and soul of the set doesn't work well, then yes, the set is a let down. And apparently he didn't make any mistakes, because everyone else that built it is having the same issues. Lego is calling this set the "Ultimate" and is seems to have fallen well short of that moniker.

[REVIEW] 42056 - Porsche 911 GT3 RS

The module is nice, but like I said, it requires some bending and flexing of the parts to work. Also the steering wheel feels more like an add on. I may try Paul's clip breaking technique on the driving rings and replicate the rest of the gearbox and chassis tonight along with Blakbird's friction solution and the gear switching. Edit: I also wish there was a solution to the silicon bands being in the way. It looks like maybe we can reroute them underneath. -
[REVIEW] 42056 - Porsche 911 GT3 RS

From the online instructions I built the paddle shifting/steering wheel cube last night, and it is very clever. However, I was quite surprised at how much flexing there was of the parts on the paddles when shifting. This seems like something out of the ordinary for a Technic model from Lego. -
What was so harsh about the review? It looked rather honest to me. Unlike some of these other reviews out there claiming how perfect that it is just because they received the set for free.

Not meant to be functional? Then why doesn't it have the "Racer" theme on the box? I am sorry to disagree with you, but the main focus of this model is the functioning gearbox. If good looks were the primary focus, then they would have switched out the color of pins and done something with those big gaps under the headlights.

There has to be a reason why it was never available online. If anyone remembers back to the press release, they said that on June 1st, the set would be available at Lego Shop at Home and in Lego Brand stores in Germany and Austria. Instead it has only been released in Lego stores worldwide. -

Then why do you supposed that Lego has pulled the set due to unforeseen circumstances? -

Has anyone here been able to purchase the set online? -

I guess there is a slight chance is was the truth, but if it were, and to prove everyone wrong who doesn't believe them(Which seems to be the large majority), they should have had one of their Technic personal show everyone why it is the way it is. They are giving an explanation about too many gears turning and we all know that statement is untrue. Lego thinks that they are so prestigious that they should never be questioned. -

Oh my goodness. So TLC is saying that that their gearbox is wrong on purpose so that it works better, but if you want to make it right, go right ahead and do so? Can it get any more lame than that? They just don't want to admit that it is wrong plain and simple. I am sure there will be naive people that buy the story though. But Lego are saying that they built it wrong on purpose. Unless it has to do with the friction problem. -

I was just comparing the interior of the real car to the Lego one and noticed the shift positioning was the exact opposite. -
I'll add this here too. Why would Lego not making the shift positions the same as the actual car it is based off of? http://www.automobilemag.com/news/2016-porsche-911-gt3-rs-review/#2016-porsche-911-gt3-rs-shifter-01

Other reviewers are saying it slips and makes noise when it is pushed along. Maybe this is being nitpicky, but why are the actual shifter positions opposite of those from the real car? And by this I mean R-N-D. This doesn't seem like it should have been very difficult to do. http://www.automobilemag.com/news/2016-porsche-911-gt3-rs-review/#2016-porsche-911-gt3-rs-shifter-01 -

Is it possible that Lego purposely covered up the entire engine so no one can see that it isn't moving? Yes, it is jamming because the white clutch gear is on the other side of those gears. The clutch gear is what prevents it from jamming. Running the motor from the opposite way then shows the gearbox slipping because of friction. That is what I am seeing in the videos.
